Still Paying Off The Tom Brady Years; Still Sitting On Salary Cap Room

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht continues to see the fruit of his magic touch and prove that he’s worthy of having his name added alongside Bucs greats inside the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway, aka The Licht House.
Look where the Bucs are today. After the Super Bowl, they won three consecutive division crowns and now sit at 2-0 following a physical win against a Lions team many considered to be a true Super Bowl contender.
Licht and the Bucs are still paying off the rightful spending spree of the Tom Brady years, which negatively impacted the Bucs’ salary cap. And Licht maintained the patience and confidence to not spend fresh salary cap room made available in August when Tristan Wirfs signed a contract extension.
Instead, Licht looked around and said, ‘We’re good,” when he could have jumped on signing free agents. He opted to play wait-and-see and to, hopefully, roll the Wirfs-generated cap room into 2025.
Young players are everywhere on the Bucs roster while Tampa Bay still has veterans most teams would kill to sign.
The net result is a superbly managed and crafted young team that’s won 8 of its last 10 games.

GO GET A REAL D END! Love Yaya, but he’s not there yet. And with no one on the other side Yaya will never get any easy rushes against a QB. If they can get a bad a$$ end to help Yaya this D could be scary good

The Bucs had 10 QB hits today, they wasn’t sacks. But they rattled Jared Golf, and he made big time mistakes, especially in the Red Zone. This Buc staff has developed a whole lot of young unheralded players. This is not the norm in Tampa, the past staffs under Licht couldn’t develop Top-5 draft picks..

It would be amazing if the necessity for being the highest paid this-or-that became a thing that also allows Licht to continue locking up the youth as their rookie deals expire. It’s awesome some guys have “cashed” in but I do expect there’ll eventually be someone we want to keep who walks over money. But, not this year! Hoping for a great ride in 24/25!

Miller I wasn’t aware there was such thing as an “easy” pass rush in the NFL, with the exception of how easy Skule made it for Hutchinson today. Hope we go out and sign a good veteran reserve tackle because right now if we don’t have Goedeke or Wirfs in any more games, we might not get away with another win

The team looks like they can accomplish something good. If there is enough salary space still then they should make a couple of moves. With a better pass rush they can do some damage. It would be criminal to have enough and not pull the trigger.

We did not “steal” a win. Imagine two of the interceptions we failed to catch had been caught. Not our fault. The Lions had to kick field goals and not touchdowns. Actually the Lions were luckier than we were in this game.

Licht is definitely a survivor…survived being linked to Lovie Dovie, lasted multiple head coaches and has grown into the job nicely. It helps that Greenberg & Spytek are still in the building. Boy is/was Randy Gregory disappointing…could have revived his career with this golden opportunity. Oh swell…injuries are part of deal.

I hope the Bucs overconfidence is not their undoing. You can never have too many good players. Better safe than sorry so do whatever it takes to get over the hump. Despite what they keep saying we aren’t there yet.

Brady continues to pay back the Bucs with a culture change only he could do. The Bucs and Baker Mayfield are about winning and wining and winning. Brady turned it around and Baker will continue to shine like never before. Jason Licht is a masterful builder, and the hardest thing for any team to change is their losing culture. Licht has done it. Go Bucs. Keeping it real in Ireland.

Brady years were worth every penny. The real genius of Licht was getting baker and evans well under market value. The Giants are paying Jones 45k a year while trevor lawerence and Tua are at 55M per year and both of those aren’t the guy and will be lucky to sniff the playoffs. Those franchises are trapped. You can probably through super midget Kyler Murray in there as well

I think the genius part about it is less about rolling cap in to next season and more about letting the weakness expose themselves with a team good enough to still set themselves up for a playoff push. The right mid to tdl move could make that “good enough” team win this game last year, maybe even take out the chiefs.

Re Itzok- Jones, Trevor and Tua are good qbs. They don’t have the o line to protect them. Tua was injured again. Next man up did not work out for Baker. Yes we won the game. How much damage did it cost Baker? It is your responsibility JL to keep him protected. How many sacks an qb hits can his body take? You do not have time to celebrate JL. Get to work.
