Sad Broncos, Sorry Broncos

September 20th, 2024

Joe suffered through watching both Broncos games this season with rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

Joe’s favorite line during the Week 2 game against the Steelers came from CBS color analyst Adam Archuleta.

After the second Steelers sack in the first half, Archuleta said, “Nix has gone down without really getting touched.”

Joe agreed. It seemed like on each sack Nix’s feet got the yips under pressure rather than anyone wearing Steelers black actually hitting him.

Outside of Bryce Young and hold-the-ball-forever Justin Fields, Joe hasn’t seen a rookie QB look as lost as Nix in a long time. Sad.

One example was the Broncos going for it on 4th-and-7 Sunday in their home opener in the first half. Nix made a brutal panic decision in the pocket without a ton of pressure on him. He fired a ball into a defensive lineman’s arm at the line of scrimmage and the guy dropped it.

The Broncos were bad on Sunday. Pittsburgh’s 13-6 win wasn’t really that close.

The Steelers led 10-0 at halftime and the Broncos were lucky to not have had their first of six punts blocked. Denver was 2-of-12 on third down and gave up 124 penalty yards.

But Joe, what about Nix uncorking and completing a 49-yard bomb to the Steelers’ 7 yard line in third quarter? Sure, that happened, but the box score won’t tell you it was a trick play with Nix lined up as a wide receiver and taking a lateral.

Nix’s next pass was an ugly interception in the end zone.

Joe sees that the Broncos have decent defensive talent, but their offense looks like a JV team.

With Todd Bowles cooking up all kinds of challenging looks and blitzes for Nix, Joe would be surprised if the Denver offense finds 13 points Sunday at The Licht House.

Yeah, it looks that bad.

No underestimating the enemy. I hope the Bucs go out and execute their game plan and keep their foot on the gas for 4 quarters. Turn those Broncos into glue.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Take no team or QB for granted….get a lead and step on their throats…

  3. Matt_PcAfee Says:

    Early trap game

  4. Bucnjim Says:

Very few coaches know the Bucs better than the current Broncos coach. This plus injuries are concerning. Those expecting a blowout might want to save their money for better games.

  5. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Historically, Bucs defense always makes rookie and 2nd string QBs look like Montana and Marino in their prime. Bucs need to keep the pedal to the metal.

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

If the Bucs are challengers for a SB they beat the broncos by 20 points.

    30-13 bucs

    maybe 27-13

  8. adam from ny Says:

i could see us letting them hang around and keeping it relatively close…

but where we score a late game td to create the juicy separation in the point totals

    Right on! LFG! Good Vibes!!

  10. dbbuc711 Says:

Don’t underestimate them. I have no doubt there were some Lions players and a whole lot of their fans that thought beating the Bucs last week was gonna be no problem.

  11. Lakeland Says:

I thought Bo Nix would be better than this. He started 61 games in college. I thought him and Michael Penix Jr were the most pro-ready QB in the draft.

The Bucs can’t take this Bronco team lightly
They play close games, rarely get blowed out

Walter nailed it… any given Sunday. He’ll probably end up scoring his first TD this week against us, but I still think we win.

  13. PSL Bob Says:

TBBF, I agree. We start getting too far out over our skis, and we take a spill. Bad teams, rookie QBs, we’ve seen it all. Our predictions for an easy win end up in disappointment.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

    But But But…Sean Payton.

Never underestimate an NFL opponent. On any Sunday and all that.

I haven’t been worried about Bo, but you never know. Could he end up having a life changing game on Sunday? Hope not. But I keep thinking about C J last season. Commanders QB Daniels looked strong, and then he wasn’t. Never liked Bounty-gate Payton. Would love to see us winning by double digits on Sunday.

This could easily be a very tight game. Replacement level guys in the interior d-line, and having to trot Skule out there could be huge problems.

I could easily see a scenario where we can’t run the ball(like usual), Broncos d-line gets constant pressure on Baker and doesn’t allow us to run a proper offense(much like the Lions game after the Godwin score), and the Broncos squeeze out just enough points on offense/special teams to make it a game.

If we’re coming in banged up, our guys have to be locked in again. Lots of guys can do it for one week, but consistency is what separates the decent from the good and the good from the great.

    bo knows…………………………………..nothing

    (that’s the problem)

    (actually that’s payton’s problem)

  18. adam from ny Says:

    definitely a trap game tho

  19. Buc4evr Says:

Payton is a bag of snakes full of trick plays. Bucs better beware. Definitely a trap game by the most evil coach in football.

the nfl is steadily ruining good to great qb’s careers…

when i was a kid, no matter what, a qb was drafted and handed a clip board…and sat…for years…sometimes many years…until they were so itchy to play – and were practically a veteran…

now they toss them to the wolves and ruin them before they get up to speed and most never bounce back…

green bay handles it ould school style…rodgers sat many years behind favre…love sat many years behind rodgers…then they come in ultra prepared…

maybe it’s best to come in at the qb position ultra prepared, as opposed to underprepared – and overwhelmed…

also trask has been sitting for so long – he might come in here or elsewhere and do pretty well – he should be prepared for everything by now…

i had wanted the bucs to grab nix…i was high on the dude…but in the nfl evidently he is not a dude…

    he’s more like food…and ballers gotta eat….

maybe he’s just a snack on sunday

  22. Bakerfan Says:

That qb draft class May have 2 that make it and it will take a couple of years to see who does

  23. SenileSenior Says:

Don’t underestimate or overestimate the Broncos. Play football. Play Bucs football!
