Rich Gannon Picks The Falcons To Be NFC South Champs, Bucs To Finish 9-8

September 5th, 2024

Joe listened to this with a straight face until two names were mentioned.

Former NFL MVP quarterback Rich Gannon, the former CBS color analyst, was on his SiriusXM NFL Radio show this week picking division winners and team records.

He’s another one on the Falcons bandwagon but at least was willing to acknowledge that new Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins may not be Superman after all coming off a major injury.

“If Kirk Cousins is fully recovered from his torn Achilles, this offense could be spectacular with some the weapons that he has around him,” Gannon said. “You know, I think you look at Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, Rondale Moore, Darnell Mooney, they’ve got some guys that can really cover some ground in a hurry.”

Joe had to call a timeout when Gannon brought up Rondale Moore as an impact player. He won’t be used as a gimmick running back in Atlanta and in Joe’s mind, he’s a smaller and slightly slower version of Trey Palmer in the receiving game. Plus, he’s had three seasons to show that he’s nothing special.

Gannon likes Raheem Morris to be a successful retread head coach (you know, kinda like Todd Bowles). He puts the Falcons on an 11-6 record and winning the division.

As for the Bucs, Gannon has Tampa Bay at 9-8 and the Saints at 8-9. He’s a Baker Mayfield fan but has some concerns about the Bucs in pass defense.

That second name Joe didn’t like mentioned in the breakdown? Randy Gregory. Gannon, apparently, thinks Gregory is on the Bucs roster and could make an impact.

Yeah, Gannon is a reasoned guy and everyone can make a mistake, but that was an ugly one.

Gannon’s co-host Bruce Murray put the Bucs at 8-9 and, of course, it wouldn’t be hard to predict his NFC South winner.

    Go Bucs, knock em out

  2. MF Bucs Says:

Rick Gannon is still salty about that beatdown we put on him in the Super Bowl

  3. El HEFE Rick Says:

Tf do your research at least go threw highlights of preseason or actual google check the updated roster smh I think it’s more than a bandwagon thing cousins got dirt on the nfl and the media covering it IMHO

  4. JustVisiting Says:

I’m still hoping for Gregory to get clean, rejoin the Bucs, and make the All-Pro team. Now +that+ would be a comeback! lol

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

Im surprised Rich is showing his ignorance regarding the NFC South. Not only regarding Randy Gregory but it’s obvious he’s not really researching… Falcons Rondale Moore suffered a season ending injury about a month ago.

Gives pause to any prediction he makes.

  6. HC Grover Says:

Bucs 9-8 should b good enough again this year.

  7. Nick2 Says:

Joe a bigger problem is Rondale Moore is out for the season on IR so Gannon isn’t doing his homework. He also mentioned Randy Gregory like he could be a force??? Come on Rich you should know more than me about the Falcons!!!?

  8. heyjude Says:

A lot of ifs. And Gannon doesn’t even know that Gregory isn’t on our roster! That cancels everything he said out.

  9. Teflon Don Says:

@nick2 I was going to say the same thing! Just proves these guys just talk and don’t do their research at all

  10. Pewter Power Says:

9-8’s crowd go away. 2 teams were 9-8 last year so they are saying no one improved as if nfc south didn’t participate in the NFL draft. I hate the Falcons but be real 9-8 isn’t going to win the division this year.

  11. Hodad Says:

Gregory could make an impact, yeah on the reefer supply. Gannon got brain damage, Bucs had something to do with that.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

I have the Bucs 8-9, with a strong finish to the year, so if they can find another win early and get to 9-8, that should get them into the playoffs.

  13. LouisFriend Says:

I give the Falcons props for drafting London and Robinson, absolutely legit playmakers. But Kyle Pitts will never be good enough to justify where they drafted him. Passing on Ja’Marr Chase, Patrick Surtain and Micah Parsons for him? Heck no.

Calling retreads like Mooney and Moore part of a spectacular offense? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I wouldn’t want them on the Bucs under any circumstances. Injury prone, overestimated, underperforming and one-hit wonders. At best.

The biggest broken elephant in the room is Cousins. Who is starting in a new offense, on a new team with a mending Achilles injury. A team with a new headcoach, coordinators, playbook, etc? Because that’s just going to all magically blend into a contender?

Good lord I need a tylenol just trying to imagine how people can think that’s going anywhere.

  14. LouisFriend Says:

By the way – the right QB for the Falcons is the guy they drafted to back up Cousins. I’ll be worried about the Falcons when Michael Penix starts taking the snaps. But until that happens they’re nothing but southern fried chicken on offense.

gannon’s biggest loss of his career was vs the bucs…

    of course haters gonna hate

I hear Ya loud and clear there LouisFriend. 100% agree.

If we finish less than 10 wins, we need a new coaching staff. Title or not.

He’s not going anywhere unless they tank at 5-12 or something worse.

gannon man i dunno. what does dexter jackson think?

  20. BobbyuBucsFan Says:

Derrick Brooks broke Gannon’s neck and ended his career. Lets not even talk about the SB dismantling of the raiders and the 5 pics. Bais opinion.

  21. SenileSenior Says:

We could actually get to the Superbowl if we get in as a wild card in the postseason. It is possible if improbable. Winning this one is also a long shot for obvious reasons.(Kansas City?)

    Go Bucs!

  22. Bojim Says:

    Bucs take the division…..again.

  23. Obvious Says:

Bowles will either sink or swim this year. I absolutely CAN NOT stand his lousy coaching decisions in the recent past including the complete dismantling of a formula that was AWESOMELY EFFECTIVE. A PROVEN WINNER OF A STRATEGY. Just a serious lack of understanding and surprisingly poor form.

Now with All of that said, I actually believe that this is going to be his break out year. I really do. He’s been afforded everything he’s asked for to do it his way. His vision. And with that said, if he doesn’t win the division MINIMAL… then it IS time for him to be replaced with someone that CAN make it happen. But, I do honestly believe this is finally a for possibly the first time ever, HIS YEAR, he makes the magic.

But if he doesn’t……. he’s unfortunately the wrong man for the job.

Rich Gannon’s pick of the Falcons as NFC South champs is an intriguing choice. It’s exciting to see how the season unfolds with the Falcons in the spotlight. As for the Bucs finishing 9-8, it sounds like a competitive season is ahead in the NFC South!

  25. garro Says:

Gannon and the rest are living in lala land.

None of the players mentioned have put up any numbers compared to our guys. Pitts has great potential if they can figure out how to use him. Same with Robinson but till Raheem can get some real production from all these guys (I doubt it). They are also rans in the real world.

    Go Bucs!
