Report: Rachaad White “Should Be Good”

September 16th, 2024

Health update

The injury bug is biting the Bucs hard this season. And it damn near cost them their best (?) running back.

Sunday, Rachaad White went down briefly early in the game with a groin issue — before Vita Vea left with a knee injury

It didn’t seem severe for White. He returned quickly to the game and was still his ineffective self on the ground.

Jeremy Fowler of BSPN reports a Bucs source appeared to downplay White’s injury and, per Fowler, said White “should be good.”

White is averaging 2.0 yards a carry but 11.4 yards a catch, where he excels.

  1. Lakeland Says:

Rachad White excels in the pass game. He’s needed for that purpose. The offense isn’t the same without him. And he’s a decent runner with the ball.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

At what point do you think the low IQ players union steps up and admits that they screwed things up – that these soft camps are getting guys hurt, that you can’t go 0-100 without a huge plague of injuries?

Of course they’ll never admit it, because that would mean having to admit they screwed up, then they get sued by guys who were injured and are now out of the league, etc.

So instead of fixing things, they’ll probably just double down and try to get even softer camps.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Gronk-a-Day now White-a-Day

  4. Bojim Says:

Stop making him run the ball if it ain’t working! Give Bucky a few more touches so he can get a rhythm going. White is a great receiver

  5. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

    Rewatched the game. 2 thoughts:

Jared Goeff did not play well. Great job D!
Carlton Davis was covering our 3rd WR. I’ll take McMillian over CD any day.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Has Sucke been cut yet? I don’t see any stories about that today. If he’s still on this roster by Sunday, that’s malpractice by Licht or Bowles or both.

  7. Statguy Says:

White isn’t a RB he is a poor man’s Debo Samuel . Let him sit a week and let Buck and Tuck run it for a week

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Unlike the White haters, I went back, again, and watched all his runs on ALL-22, and again I ask you guys – SHOW ME WHERE WHITE IS MISSING HIS HOLES or making bad reads or screwing up.

Out of his runs, there’s a single run in the 2nd quarter where maybe you can say he should have cut to the right instead of the left, but the play was going left and he was handed the ball near the blockers so it would have had to have been an insane cutback to make it. That’s literally the only play all day that is even remotely questionable. Otherwise he’s getting hit, often by 2 or 3 guys behind the LOS – oh, and even when hit the moment he’s getting the ball, even in those cases a lot of times he’s still picking up yards.

Seriously, will a single one of you dopes that constantly bash White, go get an NFL Plus sub, watch the ALL-22, then give me the time stamp for all these plays where White isn’t doing what he’s supposed to be doing. Just somebody? Show me all the plays I’m missing.

  9. Usfbuc Says:

Whatever issues we have to work out, which aren’t many at this point, at least we aren’t the Carolina Dumpster Fires. They are benching their number one overall pick QB after giving up their draft booty to get him.

  10. Joe Says:

At what point do you think the low IQ players union steps up and admits that they screwed things up – that these soft camps are getting guys hurt,

“Admits?” LOL. They are currently pushing for less practice time.

  11. Winny Testaverde Says:

Yesterday’s game may have been asking for a Sean Tucker type. That said…perhaps no RB would have had sustained success in that game.

  12. Irishmist Says:

He was running even more tentatively than usual after the injury. Give him a week off against Denver and lets see what Bucky and Tucker can do.

  13. Simeon4HOF Says:

He’ll be mostly our 3rd down back by the Saints game. Not an RB1

  14. Irishmist Says:

Bryce Young benched in favor of Dalton. Canales must be feeling the heat.

  15. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Should be Good….for what…4th WR?

  16. SlyPirate Says:

WHITE ISN’T GOING TO SIT … AT LEAST IF IT’S HIS DECISION
White knows his days are numbered with Bucky and Tucker on the bench. He needs a breakout game. He won’t sit against Denver.

  17. 813BUCBOI Says:

imo, white is hurt…he started to run gingerly and liam didnt call not 1 screen pass…white had 0 cutting ability imo…

rest up and get healthy RW1

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. Bee Says:

Baker has more moves behind the LOS than White does. The blocking isn’t great but why can’t he make someone miss?

  19. Panhandle Buc Says:

Bucky time…the definition of insanity is what kids?

  20. David Says:

The White haters need to stop. The dude is very good Blocking and receiving in a decent runner. He just needs some blocking. The run blocking and pass blocking were atrocious this game. No one did anything in the run game except Baker. I fully expect the line to gel and get better and better as the weeks go on.

  21. Kgh4life Says:

Give Bucky the start against Denver.

  22. Buc4evr Says:

With a blocker like Skule even Barry Sanders couldn’t get two yards. Detroit was filling the holes and the Bucs Oline was getting destroyed in the run game. Mauch and Skule were both getting owned the whole game.

  23. Simeon4HOF Says:

Whote’s cuts are like a car that gets stagnant when changing gears

  24. Simeon4HOF Says:

White’s cuts just keep averaging 2 yards a carry. Unacceptable

  25. Usfbuc Says:

Let’s get through a few games and see what pans out between our backs.

  26. heyjude Says:

Good to hear! White will want to play. Thinking that Bowles is going to keep the Broncos guessing down to the wire if he will play or not.

  27. Zoocomics Says:

@ Rod Munch…I agree with you Rod…JBF has been beating the drum on White’s poor running weekly since last season. It gets worse as the fans push back on their articles, they up the articles and the stats. From their perspective, by now regardless of poor line, offensive scheme, White should not be this bad. Perhaps some of us as fans are blinded by his ability to catch, and it feels like every 4 plays, White’s getting a pass for a nice gain and we tend to forget his previous run, I don’t know what it is, but I like White, I think it’s going to open up for him. I remember the struggles Ronald Jones had his first couple of seasons, line got better, confidence got better, and he eventually found the seam. I think its a matter of time before White explodes, but it won’t matter to JBF.

And all the ones that think Bucky is the second coming of Isiah Pacheco, first I hope you’re right, second, temper those expectations for the first year rookie. I think right now he’s benefitting from being the change of pace back. We need both these guys to stay healthy and keep touching the rock if we plan to make a deep run this season.

  28. unbelievable Says:

@Rod – that exactly what I said yesterday. I saw one play where White missed a running lane, that’s it.

And I love Bucky, but he didn’t do anything yesterday either.

Running backs don’t get production when there aren’t any holes to run through. The Lions D-line and LBs ate our lunch yesterday.

  29. Woodenman Says:

    Good post Zoo

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

I’m not sure about aspiring to be Ronald Jones.

  31. orlbucfan Says:

The Lions weren’t bit by the injury bug. They were at full strength. That was very obvious especially on defense. Boy howdy!! There’s a good reason R. White is still starting on this Bucs team. Bowles knows what he’s doing.

  32. Capt.Tim Says:

I’m sorry, but didn’t Bucky just suck Sunday?
Like 3.5 yards for a 20 yard total?
Doesn’t look like the Savior for the running game.

Bucky and Rachaad both suck when running behind or line- but are very creative when in the open field.

    Such a mystery

  33. Zoocomics Says:

@Jmarkbuc …yeah, Ronald Jones wasn’t great, but mainly due to his pass catching skills. Just remember during that magical 2020 season, Jones in only 14 games and sharing the rock with a hot Lombardi Lenny was shy of a 1K yards by 22 yards. He averaged 5.1 yards a carry that season. He was just an example of a back that we drafted relatively high that had a really slow start to his career, and we really didn’t have much talent at RB. It took him a couple of seasons to be productive. White has certainly shown with his pass catching that he can be better than Ronald Jones.

  34. Carr911 Says:

    @ROD MUNCH
Correct, every run that White was right in 2 or 3 guys. The OL was not opening up holes to run through.
We need to get him on some Sweeps

  35. Ateonetree Says:

Convert white into a Debo Samuel role!!

  36. Wild Bill Says:

I like White for his pass catching ability. And in the open field he can turn short quick throws into big gains. But as a running back, he just doesn’t have explosive speed. White is a dam good receiver out of the backfield on passing downs but rarely breaks a long run. Have not seen enough of the other running backs to be certain they are better than White and I would like to see them get more carries! White on passing downs for sure. But let’s see more of the new guys especially if or when the Bucs have a good lead.
