Report: Luke Goedeke Likely Out Sunday

September 19th, 2024

Status.

Luke Goedeke could not go at Detroit last week because of a concussion. And the Bucs sorely missed their right tackle in Detroit.

A report this afternoon suggests Goedeke will not play this weekend, either.

Per J.C. Allen of SI.com, Goedeke is unlikely to clear concussion protocol by Sunday. If so, Goedeke would miss his second straight game.

His backup, Justin Skule, was simply abused by Aidan Hutchinson Sunday. Fortunately for the Bucs, the Broncos do not have a talent on the defensive line like Hutchinson.

  1. Lakeland Says:

Justin Skule gonna rise and shine against the Broncos

    I guarantee it

  2. MTBucFan Says:

Let him rest. It’s a good week to let him and Vita rest up.

  3. Flavor flave Says:

The broncos have no pass rushers. That should help.

  4. HC Grover Says:

    Calling Walton….come in….put up the Bakefield signal….

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Deep doo doo!!!

  6. Bucfan1988 Says:

HC Grover, Walton was pure garbage in the preseason this year….

I’m thinking either Hainsey goes or rookie Elijah Klein.
Klein is such a wall, I’d definitely like to see him play.

    Definitely not Skule again

  7. Hodad Says:

If he’s the difference in the game the Bucs aren’t legit. Bucs 34, Broncos 10

  8. Beeej Says:

I’ve always wanted to TRY football….

  9. Lakeland Says:

    Great teams overcome any adversity

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Felt sorry for Skule last Sunday. He tried his best though.

  11. Tucker Says:

The broncos defense is probably better than the lions yikes not great news at all.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

Not surprising. Only 6% of concussions heal within two weeks. Heal up completely! Hope you are symptom free soon.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

    60% of concussions****

  14. Daryl Green Says:

Jesus. Funny helmets huh. U might want to wear them.
    Can’t pass protocols.

What’s up Fancy taking is 4 week break again Jesus.
    Ohh the helmets look weird.

  15. HC Grover Says:

Get an extra blocker in there. Withe and Otten are not the ones. Who?

    LOL!

If the guard play doesn’t pickup soon, I’d like to see Klein get a shot.

Just need to survive one more game and we’ll be back in good health I think.

  17. DS Says:

Hopefully Coen learned something instead of letting Skule get abused

  18. Casual Observer Says:

DS – He didn’t learn enough.

  19. Todd Says:

Did we ever see the play that caused the concussion?

  20. Bucsfan81 Says:

Ugh Skule pretty sure most Bucs fans could run through that guy.

  21. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs will be fine on Sunday. Broncos blitz 57% of the time. That’s 21 % more than the next closest team. They leave their CB’s on an island often. Screens and slants will be open all day long. Bucky will get yards on the ground. The play action pass game or roll outs with Mike or Chris one on one the bucs will feast on Sunday.

  22. RagingBrisket Says:

O line was way overrated to begin with. Goedeke was never as good as advertised, Mauch is usually awful and Barton is a rookie. Depth is obviously inadequate. People shouldn’t be shocked by what we are seeing unless you believed the hype. Time to recalibrate expectations.

  23. Dave Pear Says:

I’ll have that sour feeling in my stomach every snap. Same feeling I get when I realize the scotch bottle is empty on my worse.

  24. Defense Rules Says:

Bucsfan1988 … Klein was a Guard in college and it seems like that’s what we’re training him as here. Hopefully Skule has a much better game if Goedeke can’t go. But if not, my guess is that they’d probably replace Skule with Mauch and slide Klein into his Guard position.

  25. El HEFE Rick Says:

Randy Gregory just got signed back to the broncos to hot box the locker room

  26. Defense Rules Says:

RagingBrisket … ‘People shouldn’t be shocked by what we are seeing unless you believed the hype. Time to recalibrate expectations.’

It’s gonna take time for this OLine to gel. Injuries don’t help.

  27. Capt.Tim Says:

Gonna miss our big German. Strongest guy on the O Line.
I think Justin Skule needs another start. Don’t want him dwelling on thLionsgame too long. Pretty sure he’ll have a point to prove.

    Still gonna miss Goedeke

  28. Kenton Smith Says:

Raging Brisket I believe I’ll pass on recalibrating my expectations. Somehow we’ve got an offensive line that’s won 8 of their last 10 games. And a QB who they have looking like an MVP candidate. That O-Line room has to be pissed off. They are kind of new together but they hang on and fight. True they have a ways to go to be above average. But they will get better with each game. That’s my expectation.

  29. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Luke, for God’s sake please wear the Guardian Cap when you get back.

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’ve had several concussions, it was considered to be comical back in those days if you took a helmet to the side of the head and didn’t know where you were. Was it worth it? No.

  31. Lakeland Says:

    I believe in Justin Skule

  32. Zoocomics Says:

Bucs know better than all of us. Skule is the best guy we have on the roster, or they would consider other guys on our squad to start in favor of him.

Amazing how difficult it is to find depth at tackle.

  33. unbelievable Says:

Didn’t this happen during practice last week?

Or did they find out after the game and just weren’t required to report it til mid week?

Zyon got cleared the day before, so maybe Luke will have the same luck.

Agree about the Guardian caps. With the team logo covers on top of them, you can barely tell anyways.

  34. Badbucs Says:

    @DR
C Mauch at T and Klein at G makes too much sense. We’ll never do that. Skule will be out there embarrassing himself and others. Maybe they put Hainsey next to him as a TE. We should be better than the Broncos even with the weak sisters. They better stop playing fast and loose with Baker’s health though. Losing Luke for a game or two shouldn’t be this big a disruption. Losing Baker for half the season from no protection tanks the season. We need to be smarter IMO.

  35. infomeplease Says:

LG67 will be missed!!!! VV50, CK94, and AW31 haven’t practiced all week either, For them it doesn’t look to good! LH90, WG92, and JH32 practiced limited today, for them there’s some sort of hope of playing Sunday.
NEXT MAN UP!!! Again ! The younger Bucs need to step up once more!

  36. Buc4evr Says:

Need Hainsey or someone else. Skule doesn’t have the footwork or ability to lock up anyone. It’s not going to be pretty if he plays RT. Mauch can’t play guard, don’t think he would do much better at RT. Unfortunately Skule is the backup for both Wirfs and Goedeke , why Jason? lol.

  37. Simeon4HOF Says:

O no smh. Just broncos but sheese. Was hoping we didn’t have to go to skule again bout what a premier pass rusher looks like against one of worst backup tackles in league history lol. Backup tackle and maybe a stud tight end top Offensive needs in off-season.

  38. Simeon4HOF Says:

Anybody but #77. #41, waiver wire, … sumthin, anyone else

  39. RGA Says:

Start wearing the padded helmets, this is not a fashion show its football, protect the brain.

  40. SlyPirate Says:

THIS IS NOW A DIFFERENT STORY …

Getting your bell rung is one thing. Having a concussion that takes you out for two weeks is another. In fact, it’s scary. Brain damage can be irreparable. We should be saying a little prayer for Goe. I hope he’s okay.

  41. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Prayers for Goedeke

  42. RGA Says:

Is there any reason that I am not allowed to contribute to this message board?

  43. Swanny Says:

Some years ago, my son came home from wrestling practice, said he had a headache, wanted some Tylenol. I thought nothing of it. He went to school and wrestling practice again the next day. I got a call that he’d “gotten his bell rung.” Turns out he’d been concussed on successive days. His wrestling coach (played for the Colts and Chargers) didn’t think you could get a concussion wrestling. Anyway, he had to stay home, sitting in the dark, no light, no sound, for a month… these concussions are serious and they have to heal…

  44. RGA Says:

I’m guessing that I disagreed with Joe on a topic, when I mostly agree with him and totally respect him and his takes. Does this website want a bunch of yes men, can’t take a difference of opinion now and then?
    Really???
I am probably the oldest supporter of Buccaneer football on this site. If not, I’m in the top three maybe? Sat in that stadium in 1976. Mid 60’s here age wise. Over 30 years season ticket holder.
Jimmy DuBose first Buc to rush for 100 yards, Sarasota High Graduate, graduated with my sister. Dave Pear first Buc to go to the pro bowl, beware of the bear were the signs hanging at the end zone walls back in those days. I have seen it all.

  45. Drunkinybor Says:

The doctors need to understand hes always been off his rocker and we love him for it. Lol…But seriously I hope hes okay.

  46. Tyler Says:

Commit to the run. Put Ko Kieft in the game. He can be the extra blocker we need in the run game and help Skule on passing downs

  47. orlbucfan Says:

RGA, there’s a few oldtimer fans like yourself on here. I found out the Bucs existed in 1979 so I’m not in that group. Skule or no Skule, Bucs have no excuses losing this game Sunday.

  48. firethecannons Says:

Maybe they should wear the guardian caps with a cover–saw one of the players on the Patriots team wearing one hard to tell with the cover on it. It did not look weird. If it helps maybe we would have less players out for 2 or more weeks at a time and less concussions.

  49. Jacob Says:

Marpet vibes on this one, not sure we’ll see Goedeke again.

  50. adam from ny Says:

    prediction:

skule settles in and has a decent game…

    i didn’t say good, i said decent

let the glass eater rest up for another week – simply too much guaranteed head contact as an o-lineman

    ——–

I agree. No way Coen doesn’t address this somehow. Don’t be surprised to see Skule out there 1 on 1 some against Denver though. I’m sure the plan is to establish a run game (again) but I imagine (hope) Coen will make calls based on what the defense is doing. If they “sell out” to stop the run he needs to let Baker “sling it” all over the yard. No way Skule and the line can stink that bad again, surely.

  52. Michael Says:

Why do we have to get this information from some hack from SI? Don’t we have people here that cover the Bucs on a daily basis in Tampa? Go Bucs!

  53. Beeej Says:

I think the biggest reason so many ex players become drooling Bidens by their mid-50’s, is back then if you were concussed, you shrugged it off and went right back and out knocking heads. Thankful that isn’t happening (as much) anymore

  54. BucU Says:

So we have Kancey and Luke out for multiple weeks with 2 mysterious injuries that nobody could tell you where or how they happened.
Sounds about par for the course.

  55. JReel Buc Says:

2 concussions playing football in Highschool. One worst than the other. You definitely go into a foggy state for about 2 to 3 weeks. And eventually the lights turn on. The fan in me wants to say suck it up,
They sympathetic side says get rest and enjoy watching Skule get ass whopped off the line

  56. BucU Says:

“”LG67 will be missed!!!! VV50, CK94, and AW31 haven’t practiced all week either, For them it doesn’t look to good! “”

CK94 won’t be missed. He’s never been on the field to be missed.

  57. BigBucsFan Says:

Always trying to find that positive shining light, the one positive from Skule getting beat like he stole Hutchinson’s money will be a positive going against everyone lesser than Hutchinson. If he prepares and takes on the defensive lineman across from him on the broncos like he did Hutchinson Skule shall rule the Day

  58. Ben Says:

Skule was garbage and should jot start. They would be wise to replace him. Hutch went against a backup in week 1, had only 1 sack
Skule was abused all game. Maybe Mauch isnt as good as we thought as well. Hope these guys get a wake up call.

  59. Ben Says:

Also, any given Sunday dont take the Broncos lightly. This is what happened last year when they lost 6 straight. Thought they had it in the bag then started bleeding losses vs some beatable teams. Cant take some weaker teams for granted. The Broncos do not want to go 0-3 and will be trying to play one of their best games of their season.

  60. BucU Says:

Has ANYBODY reported on how and when this concussion occurred?

  61. Cobraboy Says:

    Broncos trade for Aiden Hutchinson

    Oh, No!

    /sarc

  62. Pewter Power Says:

    Flavor flave Says:
The broncos have no pass rushers. That should help.

We have 2 sacks on the year Denver has 4.

  63. Bojim Says:

Let Luke and Vita rest. Skule will look much better Sunday.
