Report: Antoine Winfield Will Miss Games

September 9th, 2024

The latest.

Per a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Antoine Winfield Jr. is expected to be out a “couple” of weeks with a sprained ankle.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles said today Winfield suffered the injury on the second-last play of the win over Washington yesterday.

So not only are the Bucs down three corners and two starting defensive linemen, the Bucs will be without their All-Pro safety and playmaker when they travel to Detroit.

  1. Bucsfan Says:

Marcus banks should be elevated from practice squad as he is a ferocious hitter and Bucs need that physical presence.

  2. NJbucs23 Says:

Wisdom and Banks here comes your shot

This is why you always have to build depth, injuries are gonna happen. And since the starters don’t play in preseason, I expect lots of injuries.

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

Even with these injuries I have full confidence in the players and coaching staff. Bucs about to shock the NFL on Sunday.

  4. Chad Says:

I do not have the same enthusiasm as a Bucs fan does. Our secondary is decimated, and as the play offs proved last season lions hammered Bucs healthy defense with td after td after td. Offense was playing catch up the whole second half. I just don’t see how the Bucs win this game

  5. Kenton Smith Says:

Absolutely, Positively ; what A Bucs Fan Says.

  6. Alan Says:

Why is he playing the second- last play?

  7. bUDDHA Says:

Buccaneers were ranked as the luckiest team in football last year in terms of injuries. Not so this year. Detroit is an awfully big challenge coming this early in the season. A win is a monumental challenge. Early line has the Buccaneers a seven point underdog. If they can make it to the Falcons game at 2-2–probable losses to Philadelphia and Detroit, they should be healed and OK. They can beat Philly but it will be tough.

Schatz of DVOA fame had Baker Mayfield as the top rated qb in week one thus far.

  8. Mark A Swygert Says:

Maybe we could try hypnotism. Jared Goff!!! Look at my watch fob, you are getting very sleepy……..

  9. Ed Says:

Detroit struggled somewhat vs a Rams defense that gave up a ton of rushing yards. Bucs need to be better on offense this week than last year against Lions. They need to get up fast and win on offense because Goff had all day to throw against him last year.

This Bucs offense could very well be unstoppable this season. They were crisp and prepared yesterday. Don’t expect the defense to win for them, be ready to score and be aggressive.

Why isn’t this a Prime Time game?

  10. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Here’s an interesting stat for the sake of amusement.

Since getting his contract, Daniel Jones has thrown more TDs passes to defenders than his own teammates.

Yes he has more pick sixes than TD passed.

    Shockingly bad.

Oh and this year and the next he is 60M in dead cap space and owed $80M outright.

Has to easily be the worst contract ever handed out to a QB in NFL history.

  11. geno711 Says:

Look for me and a few others at the game.

The Lions actually sold us group tickets for the game.

Going to Pine Knob on Friday night. Weather looks great for that outdoor concert.

University of Michigan on Saturday, Tigers Saturday night.

    Bucs at Lions on Sunday.

I always like to watch the other team’s pregame routines. They do vary from team to team.

  12. Obvious Says:

I’m not so sure you can just count us out because there is “some” Very good news….

Here’s my thinking. This happened now. Not later meaning EVERYBODY on the practice squad is still seething and they (at least in their minds) BELIEVED they had a legitimate shot at the 53 and they are ALL in that very same mind set. They are tuned up and ready to ROCK!

It isn’t the best scenario BUT it IS the very truth. Many of us were commenting on how some believed that this guy or that should have made the 53 in the first place. So in reality, it’s NOT THE WORST position we could be in. They are ALL fresh and STILL ON FIRE!! So we actually DO HAVE a chance to beat the Lions and the rest of them just like before….
Admittedly, the odds have lessoned because these men weren’t necessarily the best of the bunch but then many were very close to the guys that were picked and in many cases it was close calls in the decisions of who did and whom didn’t make the “initial” 53.

Besides, God works in ways that don’t necessarily match the way WE THINK they should but then again NONE of us are God and don’t understand his plans at first.

Let’s hope that’s the case anyways. Other than that shot of HOPEIUM, I’ve got nothing. WE ARE SCREWED. But what I said is the truth and we DO ACTUALLY HAVE A TEAM BUILT ON CHARACTER and sometimes, MANY TIMES that “MOXIE AND GRIT” CAN MAKE MAGIC and it’s become TEAM WIDE!

It’s the intangible that ALL The pundents and even still some fans just Never Could understand about our newly minted team. Perhaps we DO open some eyes come Sunday ESPECIALLY with “what seems” as the odds being stacked against us.

I’m a HUGE BELIEVER in the unseen intangibles……. AND IT IS NOT OVER JUST YET. OK….

    GO BUCS!

  13. unbelievable Says:

    Cool cool cool.

    1-1 here we come.

  14. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

To beat the Lions next weekend it would be helpful if:
    1) We get the running game going to dominate time of possession and keep the Lions offense on the bench.

    2) Pray for divine intervention because we may need it.

I love this Bucs team but it’s asking a lot to beat the Lions when we have a decimated secondary and missing Kancey.

Todd Bowles needs to put together an ingenious game plan. 🙂

  15. Beeej Says:

If we get Kancey back it will help

  16. NJBUCS Says:

Just get out of this coming game healthy. Only myopic fans have this as a win. Then again, “Any Given Sunday.”

  17. Citrus County Says:

How many ankle injuries have occurred this season ? It seems to me more than usual. Is the turf at RayJay and practice fields the cause ? Is it the shoes ?

  18. Kenton Smith Says:

I predict Todd Bowles bends but won’t break and we hold the Lions to 24. Our offense knocks out 31. Todd Bowles 101 : Thou shall not run. The Lions have a OL and like to run. We’ll be fighting like hell stop their aerial attack and we’ll make just enough plays to win. I’m pretty darn sure that is how it’s gonna turn out.

  19. heyjude Says:

The injuries were tough yesterday, but the Bucs persevered. Staying optimist. And the Rams almost beat the Lions last night. They can be beat.

  20. Hodad Says:

Why was he in on the last play? We lost four DBs in that game! Our backup safety was playing corner, that’s why!

  21. Bubby Says:

Kancey gets hurt during a walk thru and AW on the second to last play of a blow out. Some of this feels avoidable.

By the way, if VV lost a bunch of weight, it looks like it was all hair.

  22. IrishTony Says:

Ok we can out score Detroit by stopping the run. The run defense was actually more stout last week and if we get Kancey back the pass rush should improve. I see a road to victory even without Winfield

  23. IrishTony Says:

Baker is better than Goff and our weapons are pretty close. I’m telling you Evans an Godwin can carry this team offensively and I’d stack them up against any duo in this league.

  24. Tony Says:

We’ll be fine. WE’LL JUST RESIGN RYAN NEAL.🤦‍♂️💩

  25. Bojim Says:

Sounds like we need to score a lot. Do your magic with the new DBs Todd. Baker, do yours. Real good offense this year.

  26. View from 132 Says:

Play a solid game. If they are 1-1 so be it. Most reasonable fans expected a loss anyway. Too early for must win games.

  27. Greg Says:

You should probably talk to Cleveland regarding Deshaun about that.

  28. Alstott to Canton Says:

Losing Winfield is huge, however I still have confidence we can still beat the lions. The next man up will be hungry and ready, Goff will get his stats but I don’t think our defense will totally break. It’ll be a dog fight, but I like our new offensive coordinator and I think we’re gonna get some respect soon. Bucs win 27-24

  29. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    I have two brothers.

    They are Giants fans.

I sent them each a Bucs t-shirt for next Sunday via Amazon Prime so they can root for a winner and avoid the shame of Dabol and Jones.

  30. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Dashawn has a chance to be good.

    Jones has no chance.

That struck me yesterday, made me think about your namesake. Bucs will PROBABLY offer him a contract worthy of a decent back up, but I’ll bet he’d go for a ” show me” deal with either NY or Cleveland

  32. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Beej, you can’t blame Trask. He’s got to go where he’s going to get an opportunity.

I wouldn’t go to NY though. The media and fans are BRUTAL and that roster is vacant of any real talent. The cupboard is bare. It’s a team of scrubs. They’re worse than Carolina.

Not a good situation for a guy looking to make a mark.

  33. Capt.Tim Says:

    Is McCollum definitely out Sunday?
Losing 3 guys at one position is just bad luck. Hope we get one ore teo of them back. Guess Hall is a season scratch.
Winfield is a huge loss, obviously.

I think Our Offense can outplay theirs. Not as much faith in our defense.

  34. Pelsbuc61 Says:

The only chance Bucs would have would be a ferocious pass rush and I don’t see that happening.

  35. First Name Greatest Says:

    No AWJ

    Missing multiple d linemen

Missing nearly every corner other than Dean…

Bowles Cover No One Soft Zone defense against Goff and company…

Ouch, this is gonna hurt, badly. Might be unwatchable

  36. David Says:

That’s a big blow. This beginning part of the season is not extremely difficult. They have a chance to be 4–1 But they absolutely must be 3–2 before heading into a very a tough five game stretch prior to their break

    Get healthy!!!!

  37. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

DBs that get drafted and coached up by Bowles get jobs if the Bucs don’t resign them.

DB depth generally isn’t an issue because Tampa produces them like a factory.

  38. ElioT Says:

Only natural for Bucs’ luck. Make Winny the highest paid off an awesome season, following season…

  39. Pewter Power Says:

They pull off this win down this many guys and no pass rush without blitzing then we’re a Super Bowl contender or Detroit is a one year wonder

  40. Brian Says:

Why the fudge is Winfield even in the game at that point the game was over. So stupid to have our all-pro player on the field to play the last 2 meaningless snaps in a blowout.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

The offense is going to have to win some games.

As for the Lions, they have a great run defense – so it’s going to be on Baker to have another big week if the Bucs are to win this.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

The worst part of this isn’t having Winfield in there – it’s having Winfield in there AND playing prevent. What’s the point of that? If they played a real defense they would have ran them off the field at that point of the game, but Bowles did what he always does, and went soft, and it again cost the team.

  43. B Says:

Guys- in case you were not paying attention- we didn’t have any db’s left at that point

  44. Lol Says:

    Good Depth wins championships

  45. adam from ny Says:

y’all might not like this…but maybe just go thru the motions this week and take the loss…treat it like preseason game and go vanilla – knowing we will hopefully see them later in the year, when games have serious meaning…

my thought is we won’t lose to detroit 3 times in a row after this sunday…the 3rd one being a potential playoff game later this year…

focus on walloping denver and beating those eagles…focus on some good old fashioned home cooking…and getting healthy…

maybe just wing it in detroit this sunday – and see how it goes, and come home to beat denver and philly for a 3-1 start

  46. adam from ny Says:

we are so banged up on defense, so quickly…it’s wild man!

  47. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I was out of town, I just heard about this.
    Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

  48. Canabuc Says:

against a top Offense in Detroit we will be down 3 of our top defenders and likely 5-6 regular contributors on defense and special teams

    FMBL

  49. BucU Says:

We have a ridiculously soft team. How embarrassing. Kancey and Hall especially.

  50. orlbucfan Says:

Okay you all, it’s not the end of the world. This is not the 1980s-early 1990s Bucs. This is 2024, and it’s about da##ed time both the HEALTHY Offense and Special Teams carried the Defense while it heals. At least. Buc Luck/Injury is hitting early this season. Why can’t the Bucs win in Motown? What’s wrong with a Cardiac Bucs win? Sure the Lions aren’t kittens anymore, but so what? They’re made up of humans, not AI robots. The one worry I’ve got is the refs. They’re warming up again.

  51. BucU Says:

“”we are so banged up on defense, so quickly…it’s wild man!””

It’s pathetic. Did Washington have ANYBODY injured in this game?

  52. Half_Sac Says:

Why do coaches leave players on the field at the end of games when we are winning in a blowout? This staff has been doing it since BA was in charge.

    ____________

Hopefully you sent them Trask jerseys because giants are gonna need a cheap qb next year and he could be it

  54. JReel Buc Says:

Get the injuries out of the way now. kancey tons of Talent is not built for the NFL. I’d rather have big nasties than fast twitch DT there’s only one Sapp and Donald is an anomaly. Tryon is terrible 1st rounder. 1-1 unless that offense does something special
