Mike Evans On Pace For 76 Catches, 909 Yards And 12 TDs

September 29th, 2024

Yeah, Joe wondered aloud after last week’s blowout loss to Denver if maybe Mike Evans’ slow start was an early sign that age would catch up to him this season.

But the film showed a different story.

Evans was getting open against stud Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain but a combination of Baker Mayfield under siege and/or not seeing him seemed to cost Evans a bunch of targets and production.

Today was a very different story. Evans got the ball early and often in the Bucs’ blowout of the Eagles. Evans finished with 8 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. And he could have had more.

Evans now sits through four games with 18 receptions for 214 yards and 3 TD catches. That puts him on pace for 76 catches for 909 yards and 12 TDs.

That’s not the 1,000-yard clip Evans needs to extend his historic streak, but he’s on a solid track. And, frankly, Joe thinks that streak is why Evans was on the field near the end of today’s game catching garbage time yards.

Regardless, huge game for Big Mike, the greatest receiver in Bucs history.

Just get Luke back and they should be good.

Although the short passing game, and not being ultra predictable, works as well.

But with Sucke being so incredibly awful (and he was terrible again today, just the quick passing negated it), you really have to limit how long the QB holds the ball, but that should be fixed when Luke returns.

  2. Jerseybuc Says:

What a great rebound game. Bucs whipped that A$$!! Apparently Denver’s D is legit

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

He could have had 3 TD’s and almost 200 yards if Baker throws a quality football!

  4. TampaBayBucFan Says:

One big game and he’ll be back on track.

  5. heyjude Says:

Was so happy to see Mike get the ball and be more active in the game. We should see more of him in the Falcons game. Can’t wait. He has time to break some records.

  6. BucsBeast Says:

They force him the ball today against a broken secondary to get those yards up. Mike had A LOT of drops today.

  7. stpetebucfan Says:

I love how we get so jerked around from week to week. As Chris Thomas used to say NFL stands for No Freaking Logic. I don’t go that far but I DO believe in the old “On any given Sunday” cliche.

The Bucs had losses their Super Bowl season even worse than last week’s rotten egg. It’s a LONG season. It’s IS clear the Bucs have a very competitive team and depending on injuries can be considered SB contenders.

I’m celebrating a 3-1 start! That’s a Division winning, SB contending pace. Can they keep that pace? If they can look out for the Bucs!!!

  8. Let ‘em bake Says:

Things in Bucs favor: the rest of the division still needs to face an improving Commanders squad. Falcons will face a healthier Eagles team. While it’s early, our only loss is an afc loss. Tie breaker decided on nfc record. We’re 3-0 on that score.

  9. WiseCrack Says:

Yeah, after back got sacked and had his head bounced of the ground. It was HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT THING our HOF Line Backer SHUT IT DOWN…. This game was WON by LVD as much as anyone IF NOT the sole reason after “bake” got rattled!!!!!!!

    FACTS. dont be stupid yall

    EXCELLENT Post

  11. BucsBeast Says:

    @A Bucs Fan.
In the pros if you can touch it, you should catch it.
Mike had a severe case of the dropping today. Not on Bake.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, 47 passes today, 25 rushes.

It’s almost like it’s 2024 and you win by throwing the ball.

  13. unbelievable Says:

Yeah this was actually not a great game from Mike when you consider he had at least 2, if not 3, pretty bad drops.

Also had 1 or 2 other passes from Baker that were off the mark that could have been huge catches.

Hopefully they both shake that off before Thursday night. Maybe Mike needs to hit the jugs machine a bit after practice.

  14. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Bucsbeast you’re not wrong. Doesn’t change that if the ball placement was better on the endzone throw and the one on one outside Mike would have had a much bigger day.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucfan – Broncos beat the Jets today, and their defense looked insane. I got a feeling they’re just an elite Sean Payton defense and Baker spent the week gossiping about Brady instead of getting read for the game.

Hopefully that whopping by Denver keeps Baker’s head from getting too big and he concentrates on football, since this week he was great – and if he can just be consistent, he’ll earn that full $100m.

  16. lambchop Says:

Mike will have some big games against some crappy teams. He’ll get that 1,000 yard mark as long as Liam and Bake remember they have a HOF WR on the team.

  17. unbelievable Says:

@St Pete – that’s a great point. We got absolutely thrashed by the Saints and the Chiefs that year, but had some nice revenge against both in the playoffs / Super Bowl.

  18. LVMYBUCS Says:

We should be 4-0 damn it

Yeah this was actually not a great game from Mike when you consider he had at least 2, if not 3, pretty bad drops.

    ——-

    He had 1 clean drop.

The 2nd ‘drop’ was on Baker, well behind Mike, who made an amazing effort to even get his hands on it. That’s no drop.

The 3rd ‘drop’ was a very difficult over the should play where, on the replay, you see Mike trying to make sure his feet were in bounds. If Baker puts it more inside, and Mike isn’t trying to tip toe on the sideline, I doubt it’s a drop. You’d like Mike to catch that, but it’s also a ridiculously good catch if he makes it.

Mike was great today – you just need to feed him the ball and you’ll get yards.

Once Luke is back, they can go back to taking deep shots, but so long as Sucke is out there, you need to make everything quick since you can’t count on him to do anything but fail.

  21. unbelievable Says:

^ the irony of you of all people making that comment

    LOL

  22. unbelievable Says:

^ That was directed at WiseCrack, not Rod.

@Rod – I disagree about the over the shoulder pass. It was placed pretty damn well and hit Mike in the hands. You’re a #1 WR, you gotta make that catch.

He had another one that he just gave up on too.

Between those and a couple throws from Baker that were off, we definitely left some plays on the field. All I’m saying is, clean that up and we’re truly unstoppable.

  23. WiseCrack Says:

    Rod Munch

As I do with most your post 100% agree with that perspective.

Its really not that hard to understand as an INDEPENDENT THINKER!!! who considers ALL THINGS

  24. LakelandBuc Says:

He will get his chance at a lot more than 1,000 yards. Liam Coen has to open up this offense, a lot balls will be going around.

  25. A Bucs Fan Says:

In 110 degree weather when you’re down to your last 4 WR’s it would have been nice for Baker to throw that ball inside. If he hits mike in stride it could have been a Tuddy.

  26. Bucs 95 Says:

Maybe the broncos are sneaky good 🧐 they held the jets too 10 points and they only won by 1

  27. WiseCrack Says:

    LakelandBuc

Agree, only problem is he has to throw legit catchable balls CONSTANTLY. Two passes today required Mike to have STICKEM in order to catch it.

In case you dont know, Mike has hands that DO NOT REQUIRE stickem.

So those passes would have lead to at least 100 yards for Mike.

Not clowning on Baker, but the same standards that we hold ALL QBs to is applicable

  28. Creamsicle Says:

Joe what? Did you watch the game? Broncos game had nothing to do with Mike and his “old age”. He was open he just didn’t get the ball thrown to him. He will get his 1000 yrds this season everyone relax.

  29. WiseCrack Says:

    Creamsicle

Word to the WISE, comments like that will get you RAN from this site. Ask me how I know!!!!!!

It has even been made public

  30. Creamsicle Says:

Is wisecrack a child who figured out their parents password on their computer? Your comments can’t be taken seriously

  31. Saskbucs Says:

What were some of you watching? Evans had one drop, another that wasn’t a drop cause it was a tough over the head down the sideline catch.

Force fed vs a bad secondary… uh yeah that’s called a mismatch and it should be exploited every week if possible. Plus there was tight coverage at times. I was impressed with Eagles first rounder Quinton Mitchell. Send Dean and a draft pick to the Eagles for him haha.

  32. Alstott40 Says:

    BucsBeast
So lemme get this straight Mike Evans gets 94 yards and a touchdown while we steamroll Philly but you still harp on a couple drops. Lmao gtfoh with your bs. Mikes a hall of famer and we would be screwed if we didn’t have him. Btw Godwin and other receivers dropped some passes today, it happens even when that’s their job. I’m sure you’re not a hundred percent on your job everyday so shut up and enjoy having a hall of famer on the team you root for. At least you claim to be a fan idk

  33. Alstott40 Says:

Mike Evans could get 350 yards and 5 touchdowns in one game and some of you nit picking cry babies would still not be satisfied. Shame on you guys, he’s a hall of famer Go Bucs

  34. Esteban85 Says:

We gotta get Mike the ball and make it a focus every game. Get them worried about Mike then sprinkle in the rest of the wideouts. Really hated to see all the drops by Otten, Shepherd, Irving and Mike but with that said I like the depth we have at WR with Shepherd.

  35. unbelievable Says:

I’m a HUGE Evans fan. I’ve been screaming for 9 goddamn years that you feed him early and often, ALWAYS. He’s a HOFer and one by favorite Bucs ever.

But he had 2 bad drops today. Both things can be true.

  36. WiseCrack Says:

    Creamsicle

Stop creaming on yourself, if you can not back you “jokes” with facts? You are just a sicle down your daddy’s leg

  37. Adam’s Angry Says:

Still way too many easy, catchable balls hitting the turf from Evans.

Things why he doesn’t get attention nationally.

Yes. He is a Hall of Famer.

But I can name 10 receivers I would rather throw to with the game on the line.

  38. WiseCrack Says:

So glad you could name those WRs (Allegedly).

Instead of asking you to name them, I will politely ask you embrace D. D will teach you, D will help you understand, D will love you, D will help you overcome all, D is your bestest of best friend.

HONESTLY @Adam’s Angry, you might be the coolest fan of D if only you knew. I would expect you and D to be really really tight honestly.

I do like your opinon but please first check with D before commenting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. Gipper Says:

    MiddlingMunch,
You have no idea what Baker said or didn’t say about Tom Brady. You dredge this nonsense up to criticize Baker anyway you can. You certainly can’t criticize his play last year or this year. Saw your remark about Baker in a recent post about you rewatching the Broncos game and Baker not getting the ball downfield to an always open ME. That is just more of your usual nonsense. TV coverage doesn’t let any of us see what is going on downfield. We see the QB in the pocket surrounded by his O linemen and incoming defenders. What I am sure of in Broncos game there were too many deep pass play calls against 2 High safeties and deep receivers were not open.. Today the solution was to throw short underneath the safeties. There were a number of dropped passes today but Baker just continued to sling it and spread it around.

  41. WiseCrack Says:

    Gipper

Anyone that has listened to Baker leading up to this game will not be able to get past the first sentence.

Take you stupidity to New Orleans, Atlanta or where the he the Panthers play.

    Cant read STUPID

  42. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

    Mike Evans is a star.
He may drop a ball or two,
    But nothing like dean 🙃

  43. Adam’s Angry Says:

    Dear WiseCrack:

I’m sure that you were smiling and giggling like a [redacted] when you typed out that post because it made sense to you. However, it makes absolutely zero sense to me.

    Cris Carter
    Megatron
    Jerry Rice
    Randy Moss
    Anquan Boldin
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Terrell Owens
    Marvin Harrison
    Michael Irvin
    Fred Bilitnikoff

I want to throw to any of the above BEFORE Mike Evans.

  44. WanderingWallflower Says:

The drops have had to have cost Mike, and the Bucs, 1500 yards in his career. Whomever compiles statistics for the Bucs has been a great Evans ally, apparently, because drops aren’t often connected to his name. Now, he’s also probably gained 1500 yards making catches others would not. The td vs Washington, the first one, for example. The 2nd td against Washington was another ball Mike dropped. It just landed in his lap and didn’t touch the ground.

As long as Evans is healthy for 15 games, he’ll get to 1000. He’ll have about 300 yards of spectacular plays and another 300 yards left on the field after slipping through his hands.

  45. WiseCrack Says:

    WanderingWallflower

Feels like a Special Teams play or two could be what the doctor ordered.

Lets go with, huge kickoff returns to counter any scoring drive of the Galls.

Two 50 plus yard field goals by Chase.

Still not gonna be enough as Baker proves once again to be what he record says he is. Galls 28 Bucs 6.

Until he can prove to be consistent. 3 out of 4 games we can expect Baker to just not have the IT factor ON THE FIELD.
——————————————————————–Wisecrackhead, give it up or get help.

  57. LakelandSteve Says:

Evans had a good game today and hopefully the Bucs will continue to get him the ball. Is it me or does Evans look like he’s not quite right? He took a hit in the knees a couple of games ago and he doesn’t quite look like the Evans we saw last year at least right now.
