Six Bucs Skip Practice

September 18th, 2024

UPDATE: Justin Skule fans might like the sound of this.

Six Buccaneers sat out practice today.

Right tackle Luke Goedeke, seen at practice, an underwear football session in the Glazer Shed, was not a participant. Skule played in his place Sunday as Goedeke nursed a concussion.

Veteran defensive lineman Will Gholston was out with a knee issue, as was DT Calijah Kancey (calf) and Josh Hayes (ankle), Vita Vea’s MCL sprain (knee) had him sidelined and Antoine Winfield Jr. is still resting his injured foot.

Limited in practice were cornerback Jamel Dean (knee), Logan Hall (foot), Rachaad White (groin) and rookie receiver Kameron Johnson (ankle).

didn’t realize I would be saying this about Luke, may the force be with you and can’t wait for the return of the Jedi

  3. ReeeBarrr Says:

    Yayyy

  4. David Says:

2 years ago we were ready to throw him away and now he is a top 10 right tackle and crucial to this line. Especially his attitude in the run game.

    Great news!!

Need Winfield & Kancey back as well, although they can probably afford to sit out another week if needed against Denver.

I fully expect this game to look closer to the Washington game.
    27+ to 13.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

We need him for sure. Keep up the progress.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

    Skule has supporters?

His mom. Maybe not even her.

  7. BucU Says:

“”2 years ago we were ready to throw him away and now he is a top 10 right tackle and crucial to this line. Especially his attitude in the run game.””

    Very very true.

  8. BucVoyager Says:

    Thank you baby Jesus!!!

  9. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

With apologies to Alice Cooper, hopefully “Skule’s Out Forever!”

  10. HC Grover Says:

Send Skule to Canales he can fry him with the Carolina Shrimp.

  11. Dew Says:

Cross train Hainsey. I’ve seen Soule enough already. Awful.

  12. Lakeland Says:

PFF credit Justin Skule with allowing 3 sacks, not 5 sacks. Justin Skule was a good LT when he filled in for Joe Staley during the 49ers Super Bowl run in 2019.

    What l don’t understand:

The Bucs cut Brandon Walton( backup Right Tackle)
And they replaced him with Ryan Newman (backup Guard)

Justin Skule is actually the backup LT

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t you mean next year’s worthless preseason?

  14. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs gave up 5 sacks

Justin Skule allowed 3 of them

  15. No Mercy Says:

I’m the biggest Justin Skule fan I wish he would be the starter for the rest of the season !

  16. KABucs Says:

Silver lining… we are 2 – 0 & Goedeke has a refreshed and fully rested body. LOL
Hope his brain is good, too!

  17. Nicholas Carlson Says:

With one of the dorky guardian caps on his helmet I hope!!! Keep that noggin safe LUKE

  18. Saskbucs Says:

I would rather see Klein out there on Sunday if Goedeke still can’t go. What’s the worst that could happen? Give up 3 sacks in the 1st quarter? If that happens, you can always go back to Skule. Give the rookie some meaningful reps. By end of the season he might be better than Mauch!

  19. unbelievable Says:

    “Skule has his supporters” ???

Like who? Opposing defensive ends and linebackers?

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Joe in Michigan was making all sort of excuses for Sucke, not sure if they’re related or what, but it’s remarkable anyone could have watched that scrub play and not want him cut immediately.

Sucke sucked in the preseason, and literally had the worst game I’ve personally ever seen by an offensive lineman in the NFL. Yes, I’m sure, perhaps, there’s been worse play – but I’ve never seen it.

No idea why he’s still on the team. You could never ever put that guy out there again and have any confidence in him. The people saying to sign Donovan Smith have it right. I don’t care if he’s out of shape and 500lbs and can’t move, there’s no way he’s not one-trillion times better than Sucke.

    —————

Klein was a guard in college, and is built like a guard. I know he got a few snaps at tackle in the preseason, but he also didn’t look good in that position.

But I’d much rather see Hainsey out there at RT. He was a college RT and there’s not way he wouldn’t be a dramatic improvement over Sucke. Heck they could resign Tom Brady and make him the RT and it would be a dramatic improvement.

  22. 813BUCBOI Says:

    THANKS JOE!!!!!

    LOL

    GO BUCS!!!!

  23. Stanglassman Says:

This guy Goedeke Walks around One Buc like he owns the place.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

We’ve seen what life is like without Luke. When can Licht give him a new deal? I recommend doing it the first moment possible, since his price is only going up.

  25. Usfbuc Says:

I would sit him next week too. No need to rush anyone back for the Broncos, they are terrible and not in the NFC.

From an aggressive attitude perspective, the donkey does own the place. Please confront him in person if you’d like.

  27. JimBobBuc Says:

Good news. We need to give Haggard a try at tackle in place of Skule. Haggard looked good at G in the preseason and even got some RT snaps I think.

  28. Jeff Says:

Need to see more Skule. Let’s get him up to speed. Gonna need him again.

  29. Matt_PcAfee Says:

We will need him for Denver. Those guys are going to be amped up at sea level.

  30. Hodad Says:

Glad the Bucs are using the glazer shed, keep the team fresh. Sunday at one is going to be a hot MFer. Save their bodies till then.

  31. Josh Says:

Klein should start at gaurd and move Mauch back to tackle like he was in college. Was a TE that was moved to tackle would be a perfect 6th lineman days like Sunday and I bet he’d be a decent back up to Goedeke. Couldn’t be worse than Skule right? Best case he’s a back up gaurd tackle swing 6th lineman. Worst case Klein can’t start and we go back to him but he hasn’t done alot so far honestly.

  32. Timbucs2 Says:

Hopefully we can sing with Alice Cooper on Sunday:

Skule’s out for summer! Skule’s out forever!

But we wish him the best. On the bench.

  33. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    This is a good sign.

I had a weird feeling that we might never see Goedeke suit up again on Sundays, but hopefully that’s not true obviously.

I just remember us losing multiple highly-touted and promising offensive linemen way too early here in the past… (Aaron Sears, Carl Nicks, etc)

  34. Mark A Swygert Says:

It didn’t help Skule that the pass rusher he had to deal with was Aiden Hutchingson. Skule is probably not so completely embarrassed against more run-of-the-mill competition. What I’m saying is, it was not so much that Skule is so bad, but that AH was so good. Probably in the top 3 at his position in the league.

  35. DatboyWebby Says:

Thank God!!! I don’t think I’ve ever been more relieved in my life.

  36. HC Grover Says:

    Rather have Walton back…mistake?

  37. infomeplease Says:

Some of you miss read this! LG67 was at practice but HE DID NOT PRACTICE!!! Most likely he will miss Sunday’s game!

  38. infomeplease Says:

HC Grover says” Rather have Walton back”

HC, You make a good statement, Walton would still be here if he didn’t have like 3 false starts in pre season. Walton definitely plays RT better! The other positions on the line… I don’t know.

  39. Stanglassman Says:

‘74 buc fan- Cam Brate said how much Luke has changed since his rookie season. He said now when he see him at one buc place he walks around like he owns the place. I just thought it was funny.

  40. infomeplease Says:

RH. Played RT at Notre Dame for 3 years. Why don’t the Bucs cross train him for that position?

  41. A Bucs Fan Says:

Sorry to hear Luke couldn’t go. Skule was a back up LT. Wonder how Haggard would do?

  42. unbelievable Says:

    Broncos D-line is celebrating.

  43. Bucsfan81 Says:

Ugh I really don’t want to watch another week of skule on roller skates the whole game. Way to many injuries we need to get some of these guys healthy.

  44. LakelandSteve Says:

Hainsey played tackle in college. Maybe he is mobile enough but he can’t be worse than Skule. The Broncos have an edge rusher who can create havoc. Hopefully the Bucs get this straightened out.

  45. A Bucs Fan Says:

Tomorrow will tell more, but Jenna Laine quoted Coach Bowles as saying it was a positive that Luke was walking outdoors…. That’s not a great sign that he’ll be ready to go this Sunday.

  46. DI Says:

Haha the Joe’s changed the initial Goedeke update to a full injury update and now the top comments are all left out to dry

  47. Dave Pear Says:

    Crap

  48. Hearty Dikerson Says:

I hate how this staff gets too cute and ‘outsmarts’ everyone else. Nearly every olineman they’ve drafted has been a tackle…yet none of them can be moved to that same position in a pinch?!

The Joes love to herald Licht as the best o-line talent evaluator in the NFL, but our top backup tackle is the worst lineman in the league.

  49. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

Skule will do OK if he’s needed to play against Denver as long as Hutchinson doesn’t get traded to the Broncos this week.

He only allowed 3 pressures against the Lions, all sacks unfortunately.
But he’s not as bad as it seems after that game. He’ll get better if he’s the RT this weekend. And over the course of the season, the entire o-line will get better. Skule isn’t the only one who had issues against the Lions. A less mobile QB would have been sacked 7 or 8 times.

  50. JDub Says:

    Way to kool for Skule!
Maybe there is a lock for the turnstile like there is at theme parks when they close?

  51. TB12myfavbuc Says:

Ya mean we can watch skule rule again

  52. Dave Pear Says:

It’s true, Skule is not as bad as he seems at RT. He’s far worse. Statistically he is charged with 3 sacks, but he matadored, whiffed, snowconed, and P-popped all game long. He might have had 3 effective blocks, none that I saw against Hutchinson. But, this is on Coen. Deciding that Drule was not able to block Hutch mano et mano, he decides that Cade Otton can do it.

Todd as head coach needs to let his subordinate know this is unacceptable and if someone is getting curbstomped so bad that it disrupts not just the entire OL but the entire offense, best install the 6th OL to help the cadaver out and go with 4 eligibles.

Todd needs to be the bigger man here, and exercise his authority as head coach. Don’t let that carnage happen again.

  53. Buccos Says:

Kyle has that right side on lockdown. Ain’t no one getting through. He just had a bad 1st quarter. Lol

  54. Buccos Says:

    Skule

  55. Leopold Stotch Says:

Why are we cheering? Unless I’m misunderstanding, Joe is saying that Goedeke sat out practice again. So I’m not expecting him to be back on Sunday.

  56. MadMax Says:

Uhg…do i have to go through this again….

    Wirfs RT
    Barton LT
    Hainsey C

  57. MadMax Says:

Until Luke can come back healthy, of course

  58. StormyInFl Says:

I’d rather try Hainsey or Klein out at RT. Could not possibly be worse.

Or go get durable Donnie off FA. The worst you’d get is some bad holding calls and the occasional false start.

I’m not ready to throw away the promising start to this season seeing what Trask can do with the ones, because the OL got Baker creamed.

  59. BucU Says:

Wait! Callijah Kancey didn’t practice again???

    He’s useless.

  60. KABucs Says:

Skule still practiced? Thought he was still recovering from third degree burn wounds!

… or excessive skin scapes from Hutchinson tearing by him repeatedly.

  61. SlyPirate Says:

    StormyInFl Says:

    ^^^^^^^

THIS! Skule was exposed. Every OC will focus on him. They need to try Plan B.

  62. 1#bucsfan Says:

We could really use a bye week already lol

  63. Ed Says:

Hainsey or Mauch at RT if Luke can’t play. Skule was embarrassed, giving up 1 or 2 sacks to Hutchinson in a 60 minute game is expectable but 3 in 1 quarter is time to let someone else pass block. Hainsey is fairly athletic though not strong enough to run block. Pass blocking is more about footwork and be quick enough to not get beat when the pass rusher goes outside/inside.

Skule couldn’t move to his right fast enough and was grasping at air within one second of the snap. He was really bad out there and Mayfield needs to know that he has a pocket.
