Looking For Excuses To Ding The Bucs

September 4th, 2024

Will people just stop?

Recently, SI.com NFL columnist Albert Breer predicted the Bucs to win the NFC South this fall and said those who think the Bucs are a garbage team “aren’t paying attention.”

Over at NFL.com, Eric Edholm thinks the Bucs didn’t do enough to replace three players who left the team for a variety of reasons.

In doing so, Edholm exposed himself.

His power rankings put the Bucs as the No. 20 team, largely because Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht didn’t do enough to replace Shaq Barrett, Devin White and Carlton Davis.

The losses of Shaquil Barrett, Devin White and Carlton Davis III can’t be glossed over, and replacing all of them won’t be easy.

The hell they can’t.

Joe will argue the losses of Shaq and White can very much be glossed over because those guys didn’t do anything last year. What are the Bucs losing, exactly? Zero multiplied by any number is still zero.

In the second half of the season, including the playoffs, Shaq was absolutely invisible. Joe loves Shaq to death but he was a complete non-factor. How can you miss someone who wasn’t there?

White? Dear Lord, did Edholm not know malcontent White was benched last year? He was a healthy scratch in one of the most important games last year at Green Bay. And how did the Bucs do without him? They thrashed the Packers in their own frozen crib. Thrashed! Joe was there.

Now if you want to cite Carlton Davis as a loss, Joe hears ya. Joe understands why the Bucs traded him. Still, it’s all about production. If Zyon McCollum was truly all that, why did the Bucs give a truckload of Team Glazer loot to Jamel Dean last year?

This doesn’t mean McCollum can’t replace Davis, but Joe sure wishes McCollum had more to his resume than being gifted a starting gig voided by swapping out the team’s No. 1 corner.

So basically, Edholm’s Bucs analysis has been outed. If he thinks the Bucs will suffer from losing two guys who were total non-factors, that says more about Edholm than it does Todd Bowles or Licht.

We are that dog that gets beat and has our nose shoved in ish….all good, keep bringing it… (man in the box reference, Alice in Chains)

I have fond memories of Shaq chasing Majomes all over the field in the Super Bowl. Smart player who played both the run and pass well. Say what you want
about his final season but he had enough desire to lead the team in pressures
while trying recover from his ruptured achilles. One final thought, I still remember his Pick six in The Minnesota game that the Vikings never recovered from. That is the memory I will retain, and we would not have got in the playoffs without it.

Good memories Bob, Thats why he made the big bucks when he did.

  4. Hail2dabucs Says:

What vikings game Bob? First game last year ? Because my fond memory of a pick 6 from 58 last year came from the bears game Bob. Bob must be old and drinks too much big storm beers during the season

  5. BucU Says:

Hahaha I was gonna remind bob of that too but wasn’t Shaq #7 last year?

  6. Maxdrumsalot Says:

Truly the net gain from the subtractions is losing neal. We were playing with 10 guys whenever he was out there

    @MadMax

The best band ever. Or like the lyrics in Frogs. WHY’S IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY?

    You lucky guys,

“the Packers in their own frozen crib. Thrashed! Joe was there”.

I have always wanted to watch the Bucs and Packers play in Green Bay. It’s a very cool stadium. I have been watching us play there since we joined the NFC with Green Bay, Detroit, and Minnesota. To me that stadium is like the Old Detroit Tiger Stadium. It’s a classic venue.

I am not worried over the loss of a CB who has not had an INT in how many seasons? Or the loss of a LB who did not want to be here, and thinks his worth is more than his “stats’ show he is worth.

I am sad that we no longer have our OLB. Who has had to overcome something horrific. He has stated he would come back to us if we needed him.

Are we a better team without them? We shall all see at the end of the season.

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

I am forever grateful for every one of

Don’t get caught up in the semantics of it zyon was a full time starter. Davis and Dean are always injured. These people rankings probably won’t change until after the first quarter of the season

You should make it a bucket list item. Really is a cool place for football. Like a shrine to the NFL. Make it a weekend. Go up Saturday morning. Go to the Packers museum which is more like an NFL museum.

Hang out at the local bars (there are a couple of good ones at the stadium). Go early for tailgating. It’s an awesome experience. Very much has a college football feel to it.

Carlton Davis couldn’t cover a dead body with a sheet.

    And Diva White? Puhlease.

  12. bob in valrico Says:

Yes ,Bob is a senior citizen who tries to stick to the supposed limit of 7 drinks a week,. But they didn’ t say anything about ABV. so Bob appreciates a good hazy IPA or Tripel. As for the memory thing, you got me, I sometimes can’t remember
why I went in the garage.

  13. Cobraboy Says:

    Hilarious!

Bucs are worse off because the lawyer in the middle got benched, but the team played well in the playoffs…

  14. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I would argue that we didn’t have those players last year so those losses are irrelevant.

  15. David Says:

Keep underestimating them and motivating them. Love it

  16. stpetebucfan Says:

The Bucs were already playing without Davis 30% of the time anyway.

So the REAL question is can the Bucs replace 70% of Davis, at least for the regular season. Perhaps a team can get lucky with him and he’ll be “healthy” for the playoffs where his considerable talent COULD make a difference.

Hard to cover WR’s from the whirlpool.

  17. DeRobbins Says:

detroit was so excited about carlton davis they proceeded to draft a corner in the first and second round after the trade.

Maybe they were THAT bad at corner. but damn.
