Success in Week 1.
The Bucs may not have been all that successful with success plays on the ground to open the season in Week 1.
But boy, did the Bucs get the job done through the air.
Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis had a couple of Bucs passing stats that are, well, incredible.
* Tampa Bay converted a league-high 69.2% (9-of-13) third downs in Week 1. The league average was 36.2%.
* The Buccaneers had a 61.3% success rate per passing play in Week 1, the highest rate in the league.
If you are converting first downs at that rate, that tells Joe you are scoring points. And that’s exactly what Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen said was his goal, preferably touchdowns.
At some point against Detroit today, Joe suspects the Bucs wiill have to push the ball down the field. With so many injuries including Antoine Winfield and Calijah Kancey, that’s just too much for Joe to believe the Bucs will hold the high-octane Detroit offense down for 60 minutes.
The Bucs will try to play keepaway on the ground to save the defense but we know that Bucs run game cannot be depended on. So that means it will be a matter of time before the Bucs have to start putting points on the scoreboard quickly.

This air attack with these WRs and this QB will be legit.
All last season, when they were in hurry-up, and Canales’ playcalling couldn’t get in the way they excelled. Coen is a real OC and we’ll see that in his letting the players do what they do well.

You guys seem to be forgetting that we’re gonna be missing our RT tomorrow… that ain’t gonna help the run game or the pass game.

The Sharp Football Analysis stats are definitely interesting. Baker was referred to as “Houdini” last week. And he sure was. If he does it all again today, we can win this.
Agreed, we need the first downs and start scoring TDs early and keep the lead throughout. No giving up.

unbelievable, you are on point there.
I expect a more quiet game from Otton than we would have had, because I am sure a TE will be used to help block on the right side, a bit more than normal.

Perhaps the most successful thing we have had the last few years is Chase. So, we will be leaning heavily on the Special Teams/FGs.
No shame in that so long as we end up eating some W…Crab…Lions Main!!! (Which is a really good mushroom by the way. Helps with all kinds of mental issues.)

Washington was not a good team but those are the games the Bucs have to win to have a good year. I’ll be very interested to see how they do against a good team on the road today.

AMI Chris – Washington was not a good team last year. Just because we lapped them last week doesn’t mean they are bad again.

The Bucs won both their SBs by earning them, both times. They set a NFL record with the second one. If the Lions win today, then I want the Bucs to make them EARN it. No more Bucs-beat-themselves, this 2024 Bucs team is too good for that crap. May the best team win (I hope it’s the Bucs).
