Ian Beckles Thinks 11-6 Finish For Bucs
September 4th, 2024After a hiatus of many months, former Bucs guard Ian Beckles (1990-1996) has revived his In The Trenches podcast.
Joe loved the reason Beckles gave for his break.
Now the offensive and defensive line coach for Chamberlain High School, Beckles said preseason and offseason NFL analysis has become so worthless that he didn’t want to go there with fans.
Beckles’ new episode focused on the Tampa Bay rushing attack and he dropped a few gems, and a couple of head-scratchers.
Some highlights:
*”Rachaad White and Bucky Irving ain’t sh*t without that offensive line. That’s all I’m going to say. They’re nothing. How many running backs in the NFL are difference-makers other than Christian McCaffrey. I can’t think of any.”
*Running the football is an attitude, Beckles says, and nobody knows if the Bucs have that attitude because they haven’t shown it.
*Beckles wants people to stop saying the Bucs are going to be an average or good running team. “You don’t go from No. 32 to No. 12 without a grace period. It doesn’t work that way,” Beckles said. …Joe wagged a finger of shame. With the same running backs, Tampa Bay went from 29th in rushing in 2014 to No. 5 overall in 2015.
*It seems Beckles thinks the Bucs had no chance of a good running game last season because of little “innovation” from departed offensive coordinator Dave Canales. He says the Bucs will need that from new playcaller Liam Coen and he likes quotes from players talking about Coen’s football mind and innovation.
*Beckles ranted about how the Bucs don’t commit to the run and he can’t remember the Bucs running three times in a row in decades (not counting garbage time). Well, Joe had to throw another penalty flag. Heck, Rachaad White got three consecutive carries early in the playoff game against the Eagles last season and in the tight Lions game a week later.
*Beckles declared Baker Mayfield as the unquestioned team and offensive MVP last season, but he questions whether fans can just “pencil it in” that Mayfield will repeat his 2023 output.
*Sky high expecations are what the Bucs should have, Beckles said, and he hopes Todd Bowles is talking Super Bowl with his roster after their success last season.
*Calijah Kancey will be at last 30 percent better, Beckles said, and he hopes Vita Vea can stay healthy and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka will show up. …”JTS, do something, anything. I’m tired of hearing what kind of athlete you are.”
*Bucs fans are thinking an 11-6 record for 2024 and that’s exactly what Beckles said he is thinking.

My prediction as well.
11-6
I expect a fast start, and then some bumps in the road. Our usual flow of the season.

Why would ANYONE do that HC?sounds like a terrible idea.

I really don’t care if the Bucs are 11-6 or 9-8…here’s what I want… I want them to show up against the good teams on their schedule. I want to see progress there. I want Baker to show us he’s a top 10 QB and is willing to put this team on his back in clutch situations. I’m tired of going into a 49ers game and/or Chiefs game knowing that we’re going to get our teeth kicked in because this team can’t seem to rise to the occasion. Ravens are another team and yes, the Cowboys. These teams are a problem once the whistle blows.
We had a lot of good luck last year, which is something that Tampa Bay hasn’t been known for and yet, mid season reality sunk in and we looked like the bad and/or rebuilding team many experts were predicting post-Brady. We had a nice run in the 3Q but just when we thought we’d close the season surging with an early clinch of the division, the Saints punched us right in the mouth at home, and we had no response. The Week 1 upset over the Vikings was the difference between Bucs making the playoffs vs the Saints making the playoffs.
This team is talented enough to at least get into a shoot-out with the best teams NFL. I’m starting to believe we’re not too far off from the offensive talent we had in 2020/21. And I think Coen’s scheme with this talent surprise a lot of pundits. Lets hope this team makes a move forward, and Baker will be the catalyst for it.

Beckles knows the running game lives or dies on the offensive line play.

I’m glad we have a solid team to root for.
Hope everyone enjoys the season 🙂

Zoocomics — your observation is spot on. The second Saints game, with a chance to clinch the division against the hated rival, Todd had the team so flat he could have made a pizza crust with it. Disgraceful.
But, things are different this year. Todd has evolved. His love for zone will finally translate into DBs communicating and knowing their assignments every play. And his unleashing of Coen and Baker to run the offense for points is encouraging.
It’s a different Todd and a different Bucs, we are assured of this.
11-6, >25ppm. LFG

Why are we only a 3 point favorite over the leagues worst defense?

Buddha – when your head coach thinks 20ppg of scoring is good enough, it’s a generous spot.

There’s that word hope again and it’s so funny people are only using it for the pass rushers opposite YaYa. Bucs fans are confident in the rest of this team. JTS can’t suddenly wake up because he’s trying to get paid. You either have it or you don’t, if the light comes on because next year you need a job…..

6-11. Mayfield has big regression. Defense struggles.
September 4th, 2024 at 11:34 pm
I vowed not to wear my Super Bowl Champions T-shirt on game day until their first loss… and if they go 17-0 and make the Super Bowl, I’m going.

This question is like asking a rock why it can’t talk.
With improved pass blocking, improved run game, better offensive scheme and better play calling, how exactly will Baker regress ? Specifically?
Maybe because he can’t be out there reminding the DBs what their coverage assignments are every defensive snap?

PHI

SF
KC
BALT
DAL
Which two teams above are they going to beat?
Philly and Dallas?
Don’t be shocked if the Chargers are a tough out with Harbaugh matched up with Herbert

Trask to the Future continues to reveal his dreams. Pathetic.

Detroit is the best team on that list this year – I think. Wouldn’t be surprised if we win all six of these games. We’re fixing to find out though aren’t we ?

So glad the season is here. Enough talking and puff pieces. Let’s see what this team can do. No excuses this year! Anything short of the NFC Championship game is a failure in my mind.
People say Bowles have evolved and Baker is a leader, fine, can’t wait to see it CONSISTENTLY on Sundays.
