“I Feel Like This Team Doesn’t Need A Miracle”

September 8th, 2024

Chills ran through Joe last night when Mike Evans was speaking.

Late-February through opening day is the glorous season of hope in the NFL. All fans are jacked up about what the new year can bring. No team is a loser yet. Every draft pick is a baller and paths to victory are forged across the league. Even on the 25 percent of teams that have a new head coach, those fans see a miracle season ahead, or at least a special opportunity.

For a lot of fans, that boundless optimism is shattered in September. Reality sets in.

Evans gave a glimpse of what Week 1 hope can look like for a player during the Saturday night premiere of In The Current — Finding The Right 53, the Buccaneers’ new episode of their Hard Knocks knockoff series.

“There have been [Bucs] teams where I looked around and I thought, ‘Maybe this isn’t a Super Bowl team. We’re going to have to need a miracle,'” Evans said. “I feel like this team doesn’t need a miracle.”

Well said, Mike. And that’s exactly where it stands for Joe.

This Bucs team is good enough to win the NFC South and build on what it accomplished last season.

With a few breaks (not football miracles) and a few players stepping up their games, the Bucs very well could land in the Super Bowl. (Joe didn’t say “win” the Super Bowl. That might require divine intervention.)

That’s about all Bucs fans can ask, Joe beleives, on heels of today’s opening kickoff — to look around and see a good football team capable of greatness.

That’s the gift Todd Bowles and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht have provided.

  1. Hodad Says:

I felt that way until I heard we’ll be missing our two starting defensive tackles for the opener. One DT we signed last week, and even 3rd string Brown is out. Not as confident depending on CJ Brewer who didn’t even make the cut last week, and some unknown all together.

  2. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Let’s F*ckin Bake, Bucs!!

    Final score…..Buccaneers 34 – Commanders 20.

  3. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Make no mistake hodad, these Bucs are going to be in some ‘track meets’ this year… starting today imo.

  4. Buc Nutty Says:

Love the piece. Get fired up. I feel good about this team.
Keep the doc’s away and we will be dangerous.

    Go Bucs!

    Fire the cannons!

  5. Beeej Says:

Prolly more than a few blitzes

  6. FanoftheSouth Says:

Jordan Love went down and will be out 5 to 6 weeks. That could leave a 7th or Wildcard spot up for grabs unless Will Levi’s can manage to keep them in it.

Bucs haven’t taken one snap and their path to the Playoffs has improved already.

  7. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs defense will be fine today.

  8. ATLBUC Says:

Beej, the way the Packers and Love looked against the Eagles they were not an obstacle to us

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

GMC offered to suit-up today…..we don’t need a defensive line if we score on them at will…

  10. WiseCrack Says:

If you really want to get Hyped Up go watch that In the Current video Joe is referring to.

Do yourself a favor and sit on your hands when it gets to the last guy. You will be wanting to hi five and mosh and all sorts of lunacy seeing and hearing and knowing we have a monster in the closet.

    Simply put:
    Hardy
    Derrik
    Levonte
    KJ

Out of all of them, the thing KJ has that will be special is between his ears. And I am not talking just smarts cause they all have that in spades. NO no NO, This man carry’s a mighty sword!!!

  11. Beeej Says:

With a suspect line, I feel FAR better about it all with KJ there instead of White. The man simply doesn’t blow tackles

  12. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

I also don’t believe we’re in need of a miracle. But we do need to peak after Thanksgiving and avoid major injuries in positions where we lack quality depth.

We didn’t look like a championship team at the beginning of either of the seasons when we did win a Superbowl. We gradually got better over the course each season. With all the young players we have now it will be that way again this season.

I’m not betting the house that we’re going to get to the Superbowl this season. Injuries can derail the attempt as has happened countless times in the NFL over the decades. But the fact that Mike Evans can speak about the possibility without being laughed out of town is telling. And that he can speak about the possibility while Jason Licht is still in progress of digging the team out of salary cap hell speaks volumes about the job Licht and his staff have done in the past several years. They really have done a masterful job.

  13. Dave Pear Says:

WiseCrack – I hope you’re right about Britt. Seems like a great partner for LVD, unlike the overrated, self-centered failure who he replaced.

  14. Allen Lofton Says:

If the Bucs get to the Superball than they are capable of winning the SuperBowl.

  15. heyjude Says:

“In The Current — Finding The Right 53” was a fantastic video! Wow!

  16. dbbuc711 Says:

With the injury news the last few days I’m feeling nervous about today’s game.

  17. infomeplease Says:

One at a time! LFG! 😎

  18. SB~LV Says:

With every team facing a ridiculou$ 17 game gauntlet Every team is going to need several miracles

  19. HC Grover Says:

    Finally we get reality.

  20. Jeff Says:

Kancey really let us down. He just can’t stay healthy.

  21. Fred McNeil Says:

Even with the depth issue at DT I’m pretty sure we can handle this game. The WTFs were straight up garbage last year. Unless they can run the ball well they should have issues all day. Go BUCS!

  22. Pewter Power Says:

Bucs fans don’t needs hard knocks any more than I need to see anyone else hear getting nervous about Kancey. Not after all the sucking off licht enjoyed this offseason. He chose to address the D line with undrafted talent so let’s get it. As long as he’s not out week 2

  23. Harold Says:

    Redskins 31 Buccaneers 13

  24. Nigiel Says:

    Redskins 34 Buccaneers 13

  25. Crickett Baker Says:

I don’t think the Commandos will get 20 points.

  26. adam from ny Says:

    my guy joe……X two…

i really think you do need to add a game day morning “score prediction” type thread on game days…

a thread where the regulars, newbies, and bozos can come on and give a final score prediction, and maybe add in a key play prediction, or a player of the game guesstimate…

i think that would do well…

    please consider…

    lets go bucs!!

  27. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

    Buccaneers win 27 – 17

  28. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Is Harold and Nigiel the same person?

  29. adam from ny Says:

    i’m obviously a homer……but i’m going…

    bucs 29 redskins 16

  30. Trask To The Future Says:

    Mayfield Regression Tour Begins

  31. Nigiel Says:

Bucs have no answer for Jaden Daniels scrambling ability and no pass rush, the rookie will look like an All Pro against the soft pass rush… Thank God this game is only shown in Tampa and DC, Redskins 34 Buccaneers 13

  32. Beeej Says:

    i’m obviously a homer……but i’m going…

    bucs 29 redskins 16”

That’s exACTLY what I predicted on Rick Stroud’s poll. Great minds …

  33. catcard202 Says:

If Bowles D allows Daniels to look like an all-pro in game 1…It could be a long day. (He has a tendency to make rooks & BU’s look like world beaters against the Bucs quite often!)

I expect this to a W, but also suspect that the Bucs won’t cover the spread.
    (Kingsbury’s O is 0-2 vs Bowles D…But both were only 3pt wins)

  34. Dave Pear Says:

Trashk will never have a tour of any kind.

  35. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

    It’s Exciting!!!!

    LFG!!!

  36. ^^mtn^^ Says:

Bucs play Trask and other backups at some point in the 4th qtr

    35-10

  37. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

Wow keep the docs away ? What about the four men that are already hurt without being in a real game? If we just get to the QB early in this game, we can definitely win it. Next week we’ll have to hope Kancey can come back. If one guy filling in for Hall can get to the QB we might not need him back at all. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  38. Fred McNeil Says:

It looks like I get to watch the Falcons at 100

  39. stpetebucfan Says:

“Kancey really let us down. He just can’t stay healthy.”

WOW! Tough crowd eh? He came back from injury last season to become a stud.

We have examples from the past, GMAC missed a whopping 13 games and folks were posting..”GMAC really let us down”. A BUST. He then proceeded to start every game over the next two seasons and grow into one of the Bucs best ever DT’s. Before this board lights up I did not say THE BEST or even in the top 2 or 3 but clearly a top 5 Bucs DT historically. Whose to say Kancey can’t do the same?

  40. SenileSenior Says:

Harold and have to be the same guy. Too much of a coincidence otherwise. Maybe I should post Bucs win numbers under a half dozen different names. 😄

    Win big, Bucs!

  41. WiseCrack Says:

GMC was a Stud on the Football field no ifs ands or BUTTS about it.
He carried that over to NFLN and is easily the best Buc to do the old, “make money using your pie hole” thing!

  42. Nigiel Says:

Nigiel will be at the game in the AC club section because unlike you Peeon’s I can actually afford to go to the game and not sit on Joe Buc fan watching the game in my fruit of the loom undies solo and having to comment on every play on this website were most of you have been for years and years, sad really

  43. WiseCrack Says:

    13-5 maybe 14-5

  44. Dave Pear Says:

Wisecrack — “……and is easily the best Buc to do the old, “make money using your pie hole” thing!”

LOL. You have a great way with words, mate.

  45. Buchen61 Says:

So our historical season begins…. Enjiy the ride.

    Go Bucs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. HC Grover Says:

LOL The Carolina Shrimp throws INT on his first play of the year.

  47. HC Grover Says:

    Stainks look good.

  48. Dr. Bucenstein Says:

Joey Galloway, Booger McFarland and Warren Sapp were good on the networks too.

  49. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Cousins just threw a pick 😉

  50. HC Grover Says:

    Carr looking like Joe Montana.

  51. HC Grover Says:

Stanks over Panters and The Carilina Shrimp 17-0 1st qtr. may see Wolford in there if this continues.

  52. Larrd Says:

No miracle, just some good and dependable defensive linemen. That should always be a priority but was not.

  53. HC Grover Says:

The Shrimp is just awful. Canales is running up the gut for none as usual. Glad we got rid of him.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Kirk Cousins injured.

  55. HC Grover Says:

    Canales looks baffled.

  56. infomeplease Says:

In Atlanta the refs are treating the Steelers like they are the Bucs! Not good for the Steelers.

  57. HC Grover Says:

Canales is helpless and Hapless, also Pointsless. 30=0 at half

  58. Cobraboy Says:

Miracle = great health and fortunate bounces of the ball.

  59. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Damn both the Panthers and the Giants are bad football teams

  60. Kenton Smith Says:

Canales is a QB whisperer ? He spent an entire year last year holding our QB and our team back. I felt that way the first dozen games last year. He will be lucky having a job next season.

  61. Rod Munch Says:

I will say as we get closer to the season, I feel better and better about it. Already went from 6 wins to 8 wins – and really they should only need one more win from there to be in the playoffs, and even at 8 wins I had them 5-2 down the stretch, which would mean they’re hot going into the playoffs if they can pick up a win somewhere else.

They just have to come out and look good in week 1 and not blow all the good feelings.

  62. Pewter Power Says:

It’s funny they spent the entire offseason giving Canales credit for the Bucs success. I wonder how long it takes to move up in their weekly rankings after his horrible head coaching debut. He was told that was a bad job to take

  63. Rod Munch Says:

Good or bad, it’s week 1.

It’s like some of you have ever seen an NFL season before.

  64. infomeplease Says:

Atlanta is about to lose!!!!!!!! 😎

  65. Bakerfan Says:

Lol the almighty high octane Falcons score 10 points and lose, 0-5 is very likely for these Super Bowl bound, press loving Falcons. Think the media mouth pieces want a do over
