Hurricane Helene Shouldn’t Be Too Disruptive… For the Bucs

September 25th, 2024

May the Bucs defensive line be a fraction as destructive as this nasty thing rolling through the Gulf is expected to be.

If Hurricane Helene stays on its projected track, the greater Tampa Bay region will be spared the worst of things. Joe wishes the same could be said for our friends up in the Panhandle.

Please stay safe, guys. This now Category-4 storm looks like it can and will eff things up within. For the Bucs, coach Todd Bowles said today it shouldn’t be much of a concern messing up the team’s schedule as it prepares for the Eagles on Sunday.

“Well, it definitely puts us inside,” Bowles said of the storm forcing practice inside the Glazer Shed on Thursday. “Right now, the schedule is the same.”

It looks as if the Bucs may have to change meeting times to allow players to take care of things at home. For example, Baker Mayfield said he was pretty sure he and his family will have to evacuate as he lives close to the water.

Even if the Bucs must adjust their schedule, Bowles said the Bucs will get their previously scheduled work in for the Eagles.

“It may change the meetings in the afternoon as far as making it up on Friday with an extra hour or so, but we will definitely be inside if the weather changes and we’ll see how bad it gets,” Bowles said.

Joe seems to recall one year former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter had his family hang out overnight at One Buc Palace as the building is supposedly built to withstand the strongest of storms.

So outside of some players taking care of personal business at home, the storm should not mess up the Bucs’ preparation for beating the Eagles.

Rich players need to pay someone to get things ready at home. The Glazers should get a whole hotel for players, and familys. I can hear the excuses now, our head wasn’t in the game because of the hurricane.

After living through 2 eyes of ‘canes in Tampa, besides a little flooding they are always hyped up more than they deliver. I remember taking a boat from Westshore to my house in Sunset Park, but the water never came up as far as the house. Waterskiing up Bayshore is a Tampa ritual. But it looks like this one will just sideswipe Tampa.

The Bucs running game and inability to tackle the QB will be the downfall of this team. Fix it or bet on it.

Naturally the team and coaches are concerned about their families safety and it sounds like Baker and others have chosen to evacuate since they are near the water. I wonder what Graham and others are feeling never having to go through a hurricane before?

The Bucs did get some practice inside and outside. The Eagles have a lot more time to practice. Guessing while evacuated the players and coaches will be looking over tapes of the Eagles and other things. We don’t know what the damage will be yet at Raymond James either. Probably a lot of back and forth conversations going on with the NFL. Hopefully, they don’t move the game. The NFL and southern teams should be prepared for these. September and October have predominately been when hurricanes have hit.

    Stay safe everyone!
