Huge Offensive Output Wasn’t Most Impressive For Todd Bowles

September 10th, 2024

Yeah, wins are nice, but head coach Todd Bowles is looking for something deeper very early in the season.

Racking up 37 points? Naahh.

After another year of no tackling in training camp and most starters playing single-digit snaps in preseason, Bowles was looking for his team to man up and fight across the board for 60 minutes on Sunday against the Commanders. And he says he got it.

“I think for the most part we were physical, and that was the biggest thing I wanted to see,” Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network tonight. “There were going to be some mistakes made and we understood that, but they stayed with it, they grinded it out and we got a good win.”

Bowles added that a few missed tackles by Bucs inside linebackers Sunday was a byproduct of lighter summer work, and he expects that to correct itself naturally.

Joe’s not saying Bowles didn’t want to run up the score and execute, only that his focus was more on the identity of his team.

This offseason, the Bucs set out to get more physical and bigger on their offensive line and to run harder at running back, plus they invested money in bone-crushing safety Jordan Whitehead.

I haven’t looked at the stats but I thought that LVD seemed a little rusty out there. He seemed a little tired and needed fluids. Sure he didn’t get any meaningful snaps prior to this game and it was very hot out there. I love LVD and I really hoped he would ball out and outplay Bobby Wagner. LVD will be fine and he will step up against the Lions run game!

I have to say I know the offense can and most likely will improve but I cant remember the last time our offense looked so good week 1. It just had such a good flow even after negative runs it seemed not to matter nothing was stopping us and everyone seemed very confident as though they had been in this offense for years. It was honestly great to watch how they were all just oozing with confidence. Hopefully this is just the beginning.

Way off topic, but I couldn’t watch the news cuz I’m sick of hearing about the debate boloney so I turned on NFL Live. All they want to talk about is the Tyreek Hill fiasco. I can’t effin win!

I know how I’m voting so skipping the “debate.” Yeah, I know “worthless preseason,” but the Offense looked crisp and disciplined in those early games. Mebbe I wasn’t imagining it after all. if Bucs score 50, I hope it’s a wipeout against the Aints in NOLA. As in 50-0. LOL.

I hope ole Todd don’t go all delusional on us.
Fact: this offense never looked better than Sunday. They scored on 7 of 8 possessions.

Izien playing corner was impressive. Good teams find ways to win.

It’s strange to me that every year we have guys who seem to forget how to tackle. Something that most all have been doing for quite a few years. Do they get into bad habits in no hitting camp? Drives me nuts every year. Last year it was really bad. The first four games nobody but LVD and AWJ looked like they even wanted to tackle.

    Go Bucs!

  14. Hawk Says:

The ‘debates’ are the preseason of politics.

The Defense Got Better By The Second Half. Much More Focused.

  16. Ed Says:

Izien is a baller. If McCollum can’t go he isn’t a liability. Not as athletic as Zion but he plays hard and smart. Knows his responsibilities.

  17. Bucorama76 Says:

If the front 4/5 can keep some pressure on Geoff it should help the injured secondary make a good showing against a much better offense then last week. The big guys have to cut down the time he has to search for a target. Go Bucs!

One game does not a season make. BUT, dam if the Bucs didn’t play one of the toughest most consistent games on both offense and defense that we have seen in a long time!!! Man if they can keep that up it should be a heck of a year! (Tried to use something way stronger than “heck” haha but spell check stopped me. Can I use the word puss y and get away with it? Maybe he lla?
