“He’s One Of The Best Receivers In The World”
September 20th, 2024Boy oh boy, it is so refreshing for Joe to follow an NFL team that has next-level receivers with little to no ego.
Enter Bucs stud Mike Evans. He’s going to be in Canton someday. You can book it. And if anyone deserves to have an inflated if not irritating ego, it would be Evans. He’s that good.
But since the day the Bucs drafted Chris Godwin in the 2017 draft, Evans has been Godwin’s biggest cheerleader.
This year, finally healthy after blowing out his knee in 2021 and back at slot full-time where he had his greatest success, Godwin is playing dynamite football. It’s been perhaps his best first two weeks of the season since he’s been a pro.
“Pro.” That’s exactly what Godwin is, as Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen described.
“You should see him in meetings,” Coen began. “Whenever an offensive coach gets up and speaks in front of our unit, Chris Godwin is taking notes.
“We do a run-game meeting on Friday and Coach [Kevin] Carberry talks about how we’re going to attack the defense in the run game and Chris Godwin is on the edge of his seat paying attention and taking notes and then will come and ask questions.
”That’s how involved and engaged Chris Godwin is.”
Yesterday, Evans was asked about Godwin and he sounded like a hired gun marketing rep.
“He’s one of the best receivers in the world,” Evans crowed. “I’m glad that we have him. I’ve been seeing him work since he’s been a rookie.
“He’s a do-it-all guy – unselfish, can block, can do everything, run after catch. He’s looking really good this year, too.”
Godwin is looking fabulous. And what a kind gesture of Evans to talk up his teammate like that.
How much of a cheerleader is Evans for Godwin? Remember the final game of the 2017 season when Godwin caught a 39-yard bomb from America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to beat the slimy Saints?
After the game, Joe was talking to Evans, who naturally was talking up Godwin. Evans told Joe, “He’s a No. 1 receiver.”
This took Joe aback. Evans saying that about a rookie No. 3 receiver? So Joe responded saying, “Mike, I thought you were a No. 1 receiver? Evans replied, “I am.” Then he began to walk away and turned back to Joe and said, “Now don’t you start nothing!”
Joe knew what Evans was talking about and laughed. Joe wasn’t starting anything other than acknowledging how cool it was for Evans to brag about the rookie receiver.
And a damn good receiver at that.

We’re so damn lucky to have these 2 guys.

Sunday could be a big game for both of the RT is helped out a lot.

All this talk about Surtain and Im feeling Mike is gonna have a game. Not sure Surtain will travel with him anyway. Something seemed off last week with Mike. I know he isn’t selfish but he looked disengaged in that game. I really think Detroit thought if they take Mike out of the game they win. They forgot about how good Godwin is, because he has been dealing with coming back from injury since Detroit has been worth a damn. Is this the week we put together an opening drive TD?
LFG Bucs

The best WR duo in the game. Maybe ever.

Evans always humble and putting others in front of himself. So lucky to have him and Godwin. They both are awesome.

I was thinking last Spring that Chris Godwin would be odd-man out next season because of the money situation. Now I doubt it; JL will find a way to keep him. Yes we’ve got McMillan now & Trey Palmer, but that doesn’t mean we won’t find a way to keep CG14.
Chris Godwin is a FA in 2025 & he’ll be only 29. Mike Evans is a FA in 2026 & he’ll be 32. I’m betting we’ll give him another 2-year contract. If we re-sign CG14 for another 3 years next Spring, we’d have 3 more seasons with both of them here. PLUS McMillan would be here for all 3 seasons, and Palmer for at least 2 more. Baker’s got 2 more years here minimum, but if he’s doing good we’ll keep him.
With a still young OLine, RB group & TE group, our offense SHOULD just continue to get better & better for at least the next 3 years (and likely beyond that). It’ll cost us money to keep it together (as contracts come up), but that lets us focus our drafts largely on defense. And that’s good, because we’ve got a LOT of defenders who’ll need to be replaced in the next 3 years (Vea, Gaines, Gholston, LVD, Nelson, probably JTS & Hall, among others).

They can’t double team everybody!
We have the talent to be one of, if not the most explosive offenses this year. The running game will soon follow.
September 20th, 2024 at 10:21 am
Not to be nick-picky but aren’t all the NFL WR the best WR in the world?
September 20th, 2024 at 10:23 am
We have two No. 1s and several 2s.
September 20th, 2024 at 10:26 am
It is going to suck next year if Godwin leaves but I just don’t see how we afford to pay him.
September 20th, 2024 at 10:45 am
Mike Evans is the most unselfish receiver in NFL history.
September 20th, 2024 at 10:53 am
Hell yeah!! F the Ain’ts, GO BUCS
September 20th, 2024 at 10:54 am
Mike gonna blow up this week. Denver is going to try to stop Godwin at all costs.
September 20th, 2024 at 11:13 am
If the game plan is to treat the pass blocking scheme like against the Lions, after Payton has had a week to feast over the Skule horror film, Baker will be lucky to come out of the game alive.
September 20th, 2024 at 11:16 am
We’ll not have the money to pay GODWIN?? HAHAHA! The team and Krewe would do a fundraiser to keep him! 🙂
(If money doesn’t grow on trees how come banks have so many branches?).
September 20th, 2024 at 11:16 am
Liam Coen offensive scheme is built around WRs. WRs will excel in this offense…..Tight Ends….not so much. Rachaad White will also excel in this offense…..The running game will also get going….
September 20th, 2024 at 11:20 am
Bucsfan81 – I think he will do the same as Baker and Evans did and stay. It isn’t about the money with these guys.
September 20th, 2024 at 12:34 pm
Evans might get single coverage from Surtain at least early on. He’s bound to get a few long targets.
September 20th, 2024 at 1:10 pm
Licht will re-sign Godwin to a nice fat contract, I hope.
September 20th, 2024 at 1:12 pm
Crickett Baker: because of fractional reserve banking money does grow from those branches
September 20th, 2024 at 2:08 pm
Chris Godwin has 15 catches out of 16 targets (93.8%) for 200 yards, 2 TDs & 12 1st downs. That’s insane!
To put that in perspective, the REST of our WRs (4) & TEs (4) have 12 catches in 23 targets (52.2%) for 180 yards, 3 TDs and 10 1st downs.
Bucs WILL find the money to pay Chris. Or rob a bank. Or sell Manchester United. Whatever it takes.
September 20th, 2024 at 2:31 pm
And best believe that receiver #1 & receiver #2 were the major reasons the GOAT liked and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so fast.
September 20th, 2024 at 2:56 pm
I don’t think it’s luck it’s the drafting crew with licht
September 20th, 2024 at 2:59 pm
Mikes size and ability to play thru contact, make contested catches, is elite but he does seem to suffer from drops and juggling catches occasionally. His catch radius is unreal.
BUT Chris has the best hands by far on the team and maybe in the league. He just plucks the ball out of the air and very rarely muffs one. Perfect reciever for a Coen/McVay type offense.
September 20th, 2024 at 4:23 pm
ME13 and Ungodly CG14 and their families are friends off the field. A lot of people don’t notice it but it’s important. Aren’t the Bucs finally out from under the CAP screws? Licht brought back ME13 and LVD, both future HOFamers. He’ll do the same for Chris G. I’ve been a Godwin fan since his first preseason. He made me nervous cos he played blocking like a TE, but he’s built like an elite WR. When the Aints slammed his knee, I got pissed big time. I’m glad he’s healed and back to 100%. Hey Chris, you and Mike beat the crap out of Sean Payton, but watch your knees Sunday. Go Bucs!!
September 20th, 2024 at 4:55 pm
@BillyBucs – I thought the same thing last week. He seemed a bit off.
Not concerned though.
September 20th, 2024 at 5:37 pm
Correction Joe:
When the saints took out his knee in 2021
Still 😡
September 21st, 2024 at 5:09 am
That last couple of paragrahs tells me everything I need to know about Evans the player and Evans the person. Class act!
Unlike some of the dudes who insist on slamming former teammates once they leave town.
Go Bucs!
