Graham Barton Humbled, But Doesn’t Agree With Jason Kelce Comparison From Brian Baldinger
September 15th, 2024So last week former 11-year offensive lineman Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network laid the love on thick for Bucs rookie center Graham Barton.
In one clip of Baldinger’s tremendous All-22 breakdowns, Baldinger highlighted Barton getting to the second level and sealing off Washington linebacker Bobby Wagner as a play Baldinger said he may have seen once the past decade — from former Eagles center and future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce.
Joe asked Barton last week about the comparison from Baldinger. Barton was clearly embarrassed to learn of Baldinger’s comment (but Barton knew what play Baldinger referenced) and suggested that Baldinger is just trying to build up a fellow Duke grad.
There are so few of those in the NFL.
“We have a lot of ways to go,” Barton said of playing at Kelce’s level. “I have to keep fixing things.”
Another reason Barton didn’t agree with Baldinger, he said, is the Bucs use a blocking formula different from Philadelphia.
“I have seen clips of Kelce doing that but we run a different scheme than what Philly has,” Barton said.
Barton did admit he has watched a lot of tape of successful centers to pick things up.
If people think he’s blocking like Kelce, Barton said that’s because his Bucs teammates and coaches have helped him so much.
“Credit to the guys around me and the coaching staff,” Barton said. “They have taught that stuff and given me tips. [Taught] footwork things. That has helped me get ready for the game.
“I have to give credit to the guys around me who have helped develop me in such a short time I’ve been here.”

Credit to the guys around me and the coaching staff. Seems like this whole Bucs team says the same thing when complemented. And they mean it. This is a good team. And getting better!

Barton is a humble and honest kid. He thanks the guys around him and the coaching staff. It’s his strong will and strength too. Lucky to have him as well as all the others. Jason Kelce was a strong player. Understand the comparison. Thinking, we can have our own tush push creation. The Bucs swashbuckling shove.

Go Bucs.

As far as Barton, he is two inches taller and 35lbs heavier than Kelce was at a minimum. Maybe he’s got similar athleticism and that’s what Baldy is speaking to? I don’t see the comparison.

Just signed up for the NFL+ version that Rod was talking about, pretty frickin cool, let’s you watch the entire game (replay) as a series of ALL-22 plays (without the huddles, etc)

TrasktoTheFuture the ads show up similarly on my phone, blocking the whole screen with a tiny x in the top right corner that doesn’t always scale to fit on screen.

I tried turning my phone sideways and back. It doesn’t work.

Sideways and back works on my iPhone. Just hold it for a second or two, then back.
You’re awesome Joes!

Now if we can just teach Rachaad White what a cut back lane looks like we have something.

Okay Joes, now what did I write that was so offensive here?

Wirf is going to be a Hall of famer. Barton, we will have to wait and see but so far he looks like pro bow material. Goedeke is playing above average and may well get voted to the pro bowl in the next few years. I have been hearing a lot of good things about Klein which leads me to believe he was overlooked in the draft. He should have been drafted higher than in the 6th round and was good as a pass and run blocking at Utep. So far I am not too impressed with Cody Mauch, but he was transiting from a college LT to the NFL RG. Maybe he’ll improve this year. Ben Bredesonh has some athletic limitations, but he good in short area quickness and has a very thick, square frame. In a nutshell, this seems oline has the making of a very good and young Oline. They might even be top 10 this year.
