Gerald McCoy Lectures On Bucs’ Team Chemistry

September 3rd, 2024

What a powerful moment it was tonight on NFL Network.

Their annual season preview show in primetime had six-time Bucs Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on the panel with host Rich Eisen and Hall of Fame quarterback Curt Warner and retired head coach Steve Mariucci.

The photo above illustrates their picks to win the NFC South, but there was discussion to go along with it.

McCoy was the only one to pick the Bucs and Eisen had the audacity to accuse McCoy of bias after Eisen himself sucked up last week to Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was a guest on Eisen’s Sirius/YouTube show.

Imagine that. Picking the defending division champs, a playoff-game winner, to repeat with a very similar cast gets you a bias accusation.

In a heartwarming moment, McCoy lectured Warner and Mariucci on the value of team chemistry, noting they should know the value of what the Bucs have returning. Warner and Mariucci looked back at McCoy like seventh-graders caught misbehaving by their school principal.

Eisen challenged McCoy and asked him if he doesn’t think Cousins is the answer at quarterback for the Falcons. McCoy countered that the Falcons don’t even believe Cousins is the answer, which is why they drafed Michael Penix.

McCoy proceeded to make the case for the Bucs, one reasoned and seasoned fans and media can deliver with ease.

  1. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

He’s a good dude. Didn’t have the killer instinct but is good in front of the camera.

With that said, dancing on the sidelines in a loss, and the “sorry Ben” episode, really made it tough for fans.

  2. Mort Says:

He’s not wrong, either. Go Bucs.

  3. OrlandoBucsFan Says:

    Batman saves us again. 🦇

  4. Allen Lofton Says:

Gerald McCoy has really grown into his role of analytical role on NFL Network. He knows what he’s talking about because he sees it from a player’s perspective.

  5. BucVoyager Says:

Everyone talks about winners like Brady but Brady wouldn’t spit on us if we were on fire. McCoy rolls with the Bucs all day every day. He’s a huge Buc fan.

  6. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

Hey Joe, can you get the record of Cousins when he transfered for Minessota?
Did he start fast, or slow? And, of course, all that happened when he was younger and not coming from injury

  7. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

    Transfered *TO*

  8. The Canales Curse Says:

Mcsofty talking about team chemistry? Like dance parties in the locker room after losses.

  9. Drunkinybor Says:

That’s the level of concern Bucs Fans should have with Atlanta. They can’t beat us or lose to us this week. So, WGAF?

    Sunday: Washington Commanders

    Plenty to Talk About
    >Pro Bowl DT Jonathan Allen vs Bredeson & Barton
    >New HC is from ATL and faced Bucs 2x with Dallas
    >Heisman QB
    >They gave up 65 sacks last year. Great opportunity for our pass rushers.

The season is here. Let’s get onboard.

  12. Dreambig Says:

Great take Sly Pirate. Season is about to start. The opinions of all of the talking heads is not at all relevant. Its time to play baby!

  13. ReeeBarrr Says:

“Everyone talks about winners like Brady but Brady wouldn’t spit on us if we were on fire.”

    True words!

  15. Rod Munch Says:

GRRRRR!!!!! THIS MAKE ME SO ANGRY!!!!!! HE SOFT!!!! LIKE ICE CREAM SOFT!!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!!!! I HATE PEOPLE WHO LIKE COMIC BOOKS!!!! GRRRRR!!!!! SO ANGRY!!!!!!!

  16. Mike C Says:

(Eisen challenged McCoy and asked him if he doesn’t think Cousins is the answer at quarterback for the Falcons. McCoy countered that the Falcons don’t even believe Cousins is the answer, which is why they drafed Michael Penix) This is a fantastic point. Rod are you 14? Between this and your game day post it seems like you have problems bro.

  17. Saskbucs Says:

Thanks for calling out Eisen on the bias. Super rich from a guy pumping the Wolverines for the last year. Also, like you said… defending division champs that got better this offseason, why wouldn’t you pick them until these other teams prove they have what it takes.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Mike C – Just so we’re clear, you think it’s childish and stupid to yell about McCoy being soft in every article where he’s brought up? That we should treat a many time pro bowler and multi-time ALL-PRO player better than that.

    I agree.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

Gotta go with 74 Buc Fan on that..

“Sorry Ben” and “It’s all about having fun” were the last straws for me. He’s out of his depth on team chemistry.

    He’s just a talking head.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

I never go back and watch these stupid segments. I’m gonna watch this one. Gerald is a heckuva nice man and does a good job telling fans and apparently other tv heads about football. I sure hope he’s being mostly objective. But, as Sly said — it’s about Washington. Win SUnday. The FowlClowns aren’t for several games and they’ll wash themselves out against Tomlin’s Steelers.

  21. heyjude Says:

McCoy AKA Batman is 100% correct.

If the Falcons were all in on Cousins, they wouldn’t have drafted Penix at $22 million dollars, four year deal with an option of a fifth year. That is the guy they believe is their future. Cousins is the big name, but he isn’t Tom Brady.

  22. BucU Says:

Doesn’t matter to me in the least that the national media looks down on the BUCS again. What matters is beating the “Redskins” on Sunday. They are going to be a very tough out.

  23. Jeffs grandpa Says:

They looked at him like that cuz he’s a career loser

  24. StormyInFl Says:

Some of you really need to get over your irrational hate of Gerald McCoy.

The guy bleeds Red and Pewter like I hope some of you all do. I’ll take that any day. As someone said, more than anything Brady has said or done since finally retiring. Seems like he couldn’t get out of Tampa fast enough.

McCoy’s biggest fault was that he was not Warren Sapp, but he was expected to be.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Over the GMC dissing. It was hot air when he was here, and it’s the same empty noise now. As far as who will win the NFC South goes, we’ll see. Bucs have improved this off season. The other 3 I don’t follow. I’ve been a Bucs fan for so long, I take nothing for granted. We play DC on Sunday and I hope the weather is decent.
