Gameday Tampa Bay

Game 3

Broncos (0-2) at Bucs (2-0)

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

TV: FOX (WTVT-TV Channel 13 locally) with Tim Brando, Matt Millen and Sarah Kustok.

Streaming: Sunday Ticket, NFL+ and Paramount+. (Geographic restrictions apply; subscription may be required).

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game also will be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 230 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed).

Weather: If the Broncos are going to melt in the Florida sun, is today that day? It will be hot near the end of the game, but the humidity won’t be bad, unfortunately. Per AccuWeather.com, today is expected to be an excellent day, albeit a bit toasty in the late afternoon. Tailgaters will enjoy themselves guzzling beers in the upper 80s and it will only grow warmer. At kickoff, look for a temperature of 87. This will continue to climb with a peak of 91 in the fourth quarter. All under sunny skies.

Odds: Per HardRockBet, as of midnight, Bucs -6 (-275); over/under 41.

Referees: Alex Eck and his gang will officiate today’s game. Eck’s lot is in its second season as an NFL referee crew. Home teams, in this outfit’s short history, tend to do well. Per Sharp Football Analysis, home teams are 13-3 with Eck’s gang working the game. Also, the point total hits the under with Eck 10 out of 16 games.

Injuries: Broncos —  Out: LB Baron Browning (foot), S J.L. Skinner (ankle). Bucs — Questionable: DL Will Gholston (knee), CB  Josh Hayes (ankle). Doubtful: WR Kameron Johnson (ankle). Out: RT Luke Goedeke (concussion), DT Calijah Kancey (calf), DT Vita Vea (knee), S Antoine Winfield (foot).

Outlook: There is no reason the Bucs should lose this game today. Yeah, sure the Bucs have injuries on defense and at right tackle. Joe gets it. But how did the Bucs do with all those same injuries against the Lions last week? And trust Joe, the Lions have far, far better talent than the Broncos. A good coach like Sean Payton can’t start the season 0-3 you say? Think again, grasshopper. Twice with the slimy Saints and once with the Broncos has Payton started the season with an 0-3 record. No, Joe isn’t worried about Pat Surtain. He’s an excellent corner, no doubt. But this just in: The Bucs have more than one good receiver. Let Surtain try to take out Mike Evans. Joe remembers when folks said Jalen Ramsey could take out Evans. So how did Evans respond? He burned Ramsey deep for a touchdown. No, Joe doesn’t see the Bucs losing unless they get sloppy. If they can handle the Lions on the road, they ought to be able to handle a joke of an AFC team at home. Otherwise, this team isn’t as good as what we think it is.

Fun facts: Broncos QB Bo Nix leads all rookie quarterbacks in completions (46). Nix had 271 yards offense last week including 25 rushing. … RB Javonte Williams has at least 55 yards from scrimmage in three of his last four games. He had 65 scrimmage yards (48 receiving, 17 rushing) and led the Broncos with five receptions last week. … WR Courtland Sutton has six touchdown catches in his last nine road games. … LB Alex Singleton has at least nine tackles in his last five games. The last time he played the Bucs was when he was with the Eagles and he tore up the Bucs with 15 tackles and a pass defensed. CB Pat Surtain has a pass defensed in his last five games against NFC opponents. … In four of his last five home starts, Bucs QB Baker Mayfield has at least 275 yards passing and two touchdowns in four of his last five home games. … RB Rachaad White has 50 or more scrimmage yards in 13 of his last 14 games. … WR Chris Godwin is looking for his third straight home game with a touchdown catch and 75 yards receiving. … It seems ILB Lavonte David is looking for this 16th straight game with at least five tackles. He has a pick in two of his last three games against Denver. … S Jordan Whitehead is coming off a career game in Detroit where he had 10 tackles. Whitehead also added a pass defensed and a tackle for loss.
