Fast Start

September 29th, 2024

Helped set early tone.

The Bucs always talked about starting fast. That goes all the way back to the Dirk Koetter days if not before.

Not often have the Bucs started fast. It got much better when Tom Brady came to town but since he left, it was back to hope and prayer.

Today, boy, did the Bucs start fast.

The Bucs scored touchdowns on their first two drives. The last time that happened came with Brady pulling the strings at Atlanta in December 2021.

“We wanted to start fast,” Bucs coach Todd Bowles said. “Easier said than done.”

And they did. On passes to Mike Evans and Trey Palmer for scores, the Bucs led 14-0 with just over five minutes left in the first quarter.

Baker Mayfield opened his news conference saying the team started fast because players were “locked in” and added that needs to be the case every game.

“They played hard,” Bowles said. “They played hard. A lot of guys sucked it up and played hard. A lot of these guys are still nicked up. They played like professionals.

“[The offense] started out real fast,” Bowles said. “They were crisp. They were clicking. And they got an early lead.”

And the Eagles had to play catch-up the rest of the game.

Palmer over 1 1/2 receptions was your lock of the week Joe, take a bow.

I also took that bet today, but I wouldn’t have even noticed it if you didn’t bring it up. Good call.

Too bad Palmer got his second concussion this season today

I would consider this a good quarter of a football season for the Bucs. Just need to heal up and prep for Atlanta.

It’s about racking up wins in the beginning of the season. As the season gets near the end, you hope that some of the players are less injured, and the Bucs are one of the healthier teams going into the playoffs.

Now we hold tie breakers over Washington, Detroit and Philadelphia. That could certainly matter at the end of the season.

Well so much for Chauncy Gardner Johnson’s comment about “putting belts to asses” prior to the game…

Today’s start was a thing of beauty! And Baker was humming! I have already watched highlights. Now, our schedule does not look as daunting as I thought during the preseason. I knew we had talent but our new OC was a big question mark also.

One game at a time. Go Bucs!!
