Mike Evans Admits Bucs Weren’t Ready Like Broncos

September 22nd, 2024

Real talk.

The reason why Joe thought this was a trap game was obvious, along with common human emotions.

Last week the Bucs had revenge on their minds. Beat Detroit, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs. A very good team in fact. It would take maximum effort and total focus.

After a huge win, it is only natural to have a slight letdown from the emotional high. Todd Bowles tried his best to clamp down the excitement but Bowles was fighting human nature.

Bucs future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans didn’t exactly say the Bucs had no energy or emotion today. But he very clearly went on the record to say the Broncos played with much more urgency and fight than the Bucs displayed.

“This is going to be stuck in our minds for a while,” a dejected Evans said. “They wanted it more. They were talking trash.

“We have to be more physical from the start.”

This was apparent to Joe on the very first play from scrimmage. Rookie Broncos quarterback Bo Nix hit Courtland Sutton down the left side for 22 yards. Sutton tossed Jamel Dean away from him to help him get some YAC as if Dean was a child.

In so many words, Evans said the Broncos were ready to play from the moment they stepped on the field. The Bucs didn’t appear so.

“We had three three-and-outs in a row,” Evans said. “We are much better than that.”

Evans was asked if it appeared the Bucs were just waiting for a break to happen before getting into gear. He didn’t disagree.

“That was the problem,” Evans said. “We were just waiting.”

Now, the real tale of the tape will be how the Bucs respond next week when the Eagles come to town. Will they be ready?

Sounds like trash-talking Denver is taking on the personality of their coach.

We can always count on Mike for an honest evaluation of game day. He has been committed to the Bucs for a very long time and wants to see the outcome better than it was today.

  3. ElioT Says:

    Thanks Mike.

Way to be after how many years?

  4. NJbucs23 Says:

This was predictable. We’ve seen this enough many times bucs fans.

  5. Lakeland Says:

You’re at home, no one is allowed to beat the crap out of you in your own backyard. You don’t prepare for that, it’s human nature to protect your home. The Broncos flew into town from a different time zone……and whup your butt ……a good ole fashioned butt whooping…… there’s no excuses

    Save the excuses

  6. Knucknbuc Says:

Should’ve threw him the f ing ball more!!!

  7. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Mike won’t get his thou this season

Not because he’s not a great player, it’s because the clock just struck midnight and Mayfield turned into a pumpkin.

  8. ElioT Says:

Got your a**es whopped from top to bottom with the all this “veteran”leadership”??

    Y’all failed big time.

So confident and winning? Sounds good to me.

I’ll take that 100 out of 100 days over being ‘good guy’ losers.

  10. SB~LV Says:

    Shameful!
This is going to hurt at the end of the season

  11. Darin Says:

Welcome to the NFL look aheaders. Every game poses different matchups. There’s no carry over from game to game. That was a butt whooping by a rookie qb

  12. Mr_Barf Says:

Ooof…X Bucs is getting rick rolled

  13. Booger Says:

Saw this one coming. Mostly, because it was AT HOME. Vintage BUCS right there.i just know HOW you’re not just chomping at the BIT for a game like THIS, looking to have a HUGE Monster ‘Stat-Padding’ Day!? But, it’s typical. Kentucky/Cohen & Throwback Bowels.

  14. Booger Says:

I guess, a different kind of “crying” goin on after this week.

  15. Brian Says:

This is the most pathetic response a pro athlete can give. You are making $20 million dollars a year. Soft attitude

  16. Nprbuc Says:

Todd always looks for the silver lining. Don’t be discouraged Mike. Todd made out well today. While his team sucked he was able to get out of the day with all of his time outs in his pobcket! He cashes them in as gift certificates at Bern Steakhouse so all is well in Bowles land. Maybe next week he can work on getting you some touches. This was by far the worst coached and played game that I have seen the Bucs play since I arrived here in 1999. Hard to believe the millions of dollars that trotted out of that tunnel and totally crapped the bed. Praying for a rebound for you and the team next week. GO BUCS

  17. IrishTony Says:

    That’s total absolute BS!!!!

  18. IrishTony Says:

Look as a long time Bucs fan I’ve witnessed at least 59 plus let down games. It’s in their DNA except during the Dungy and Brady years.

  19. IrishTony Says:

Denver will resort to their regular losing ways next week. Hell well at least the stanky Aints lost

It appears we have taken on the personality of our coach as well.

You thought it was a trap game? Weird, the last 7 days of articles would indicate otherwise…

As for Mike, are we ever going to target him more than twice a game? I know Mayfield was getting beaten today, but there were a number of times that Evans was open in single coverage and Baker had time, yet he just held the ball and ran, usually for a loss of yardage.

    Complete letdown.

  22. unbelievable Says:

    @Citrus – 100%. Boring, flat and lifeless.

  23. Cobraboy Says:

    Payton > Bowles²

I can’t recall a worse game the Bucs have played…except against a Payton Saints team.

Next week will be YUGE for this team. It will show what direction is the team’s future.

Could the wheels be coming off?

  24. Cobraboy Says:

There was no aspect of that game the Bucs performed well.

    Even Carmada once again choked.

  25. Dave Pear Says:

Thanks, Todd. Your .500 ceiling is showing.

  26. Citrus County Says:

Why is that I ask ?

If the players can’t or won’t self motivate there is a problem.
It is the coaches responsibility to be absolute in their motivation.
AND the leader of the team aka Baker Mayfield has that responsibility also.

I say they need to have a team meeting with Todd sitting in the front row. Jason needs to be sitting in the shadows on stage wearing shades and Tom Moore needs to tell it like it is.

  27. Citrus County Says:

A size 14 steel toe boot needs to be enthusiastically planted into the behinds of the entire team.

  28. Dave Pear Says:

    This is inexcusable.

Maybe yes maybe no…but the lug nuts are loosening up.

  30. Stillabucsfan Says:

From a football aspect you can lose the afc games. Playoff seedings come down to divisional and conference wins. Watch the tape and move on to next week. Go Bucs 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

  31. Dave Pear Says:

Todd will have the Bucs ready to play the Eagles, just like he had them ready to play the Saints week 17 last year. It’s what Todd does. He’s the defensive masturmind who can let a scrub QB look like Elway, have his team flatter than a tortilla, and he will rebound from this masterpiece like it’s the 2016 Jets all over again.

Go, Todd. Play soft zone. Run White up the middle. Lose.

  32. Joe Says:

You thought it was a trap game? Weird, the last 7 days of articles would indicate otherwise…

Go back and listen to Ira’s pod. Joe said he was taking the Broncos and the points —but thought Bucs would win.

I listened to that podcast. When Joe made his prediction my thoughts were; “I wonder what he knows that the rest of us don’t know.” Joe gets to spend time in the locker room and around coaches. He has his finger on the pulse of the team. Why don’t the coaches feel the same pulse ?
