Eagles’ Bye Week May Help Bucs

September 26th, 2024

“Baker, I’ve got intel.”

ESPN super insider Adam Schefter was rumbling about something yesterday that seems rooted in inside information.

Speaking on NFL Live, Schefter noted that the Eagles have a bye week after facing the Buccaneers on Sunday at The Licht House.

That bye week, per Schefter, could impact Philadelphia’s decision on whether to play star receivers A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, the guys who combined for 2,500-plus yards last season. Brown has been out with a hamstring injury since Week 1 and Smith suffered an ugly concussion Sunday, one of the worst head shots Joe has ever seen.

The theory is the Eagles would want to give them an extra week of rest.

Throw five-time Pro Bowler Lane Johnson into that group, too, said Schefter. Johnson suffered his fourth reported concussion (keyword: “reported”) on Sunday.

That would be a hell of a missing trifecta for Tampa Bay, which has its own injury list.

If those three Eagles are planted on the bench, would the Bucs have enough juice on defense to contain Saquon Barkley?

If the Bucs, in that scenario, could hold Barkley to 100 yards and 1 touchdown, then the Eagles should struggle to put up 20 points.

Any help at all is needed.

  2. Bowles4President Says:

It’s clearly in the Eagles long-term interest… yep… just looking out for them

  3. skibidid Says:

    yo what are we thinking

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Bucs were faced with same situation, I can guarantee we would sit our injured

  5. OHBucFan Says:

I would think Smith and Johnson would be out. Brown will play if he can and then have 10 days to further recuperate. I hate talking about players’ health and/or wishing on players to not play because of injuries.
Now if I could read a report where Eagles players would like a new coach, I’d be all for reading that. That guy just seems off to me.

  6. Kgh4life Says:

Even if those guys miss the game, can the Bucs take advantage? Last week the Bucs got schooled by backups.

  7. RVATom Says:

I agree with Kgh. Doesn’t matter depending which team shows with whatever motivation they have. One thing you can depend on os the Bucs NOT taking care of seemingly “guaranteed” wins and upsetting sure losses. Let’s see which team shows up this weekend.

  8. Hodad Says:

Why would Carolina want Trask? Dalton is a much better QB, and Young will back him up, stop the nonsense. This game, like last Sunday will come down to who wants it more, who’s more physical. Coaches coach, but it’s up to the players to win their matches. Last week they got 7 sacks, us zero. At some point guys like Mauch, YaYa, Hall, JTS, just have to beat whoever they’re up against. Until that happens we’re in for a long season.

  9. First Name Greatest Says:

Philly could be missing half their starters and still win.

Coaching matters and the Bucs are lacking in that area, badly

  10. Leighroy Says:

Agreed Hodad. Luke Goedeke needs to be back, bc the human turnstile that is Justin Skule ain’t working out. Mauch I think is playing better this year so far actually, but Bredesen… man, I’m trying to be patient but my patience is running out quickly.

  11. Buc2Blame Says:

We lose by 20 as long as Baker is Qb1 Todd is our coach and this trash Defense

  12. Pryda30 Says:

Give baker time to throw this is a 10 win team

  13. BillyBucco Says:

Dean is the only guy on defense I would consider close to TRASH and he can play way better than he did. The problem is if he gives 10 yd cushion to backups this week. This team is NOT TRASH just because they got beat bad. It will happen to another GOOD team this year. It happens every year. Problem with s good teams always expect a guy to make a play that gets them going and NOBODY does because they are ALL waiting. This is where guys like Winfield are needed back ASAP. KANCEY will also make individual plays like that if he ever plays again.

  14. dbbuc711 Says:

I could see them resting players as they are probably looking at this game as a easy win

  15. Matt_PcAfee Says:

10 yard cushion me please !

  16. BucsfaninOregon Says:

“At some point guys like Mauch, YaYa, Hall, JTS, just have to beat whoever they’re up against. Until that happens we’re in for a long season…Hodad

I never read or watched “Waiting for Godot”, but I’m sure there is a lesson for Buc fans. Especially regarding JTS and Logan Hall.

  17. BucU Says:

“”Philly could be missing half their starters and still win.””

I sure as hell wouldn’t bet against it.

  18. D-Rok Says:

As long as we get Calfman Kancey back, everything will be fine. (Sarcasm, sort of).

This team needs to play 10x better this week than they did last week. If they play much better, we have a 50/50 chance of winning.

  19. Fan of the South Says:

With the Commanders (2-1) playing in Arizona and the Cowboys with a shot to go to 2-2 against the Giants sitting at 2-2 after week 4 is not a bad place to be.

I doubt any of the Injured or Borderline will play this week.
Eagles will rest them all and get their stand ins some playing time. With their Defense in pretty good shape 6 or 7 points might be all that is needed and with Barcley still on his make up tour for his Blunder on National Television he may be a real force to recon with.

  20. geno711 Says:

My gosh, isn’t there a simple offensive game plan for the Eagles this game.

    1. Since Vea, Kancey and Winfield are out, run both Barkley and Hurts all game long.

    2. Since we have a missing right tackle, a questionable interior line, and the worst offensive line coach in the whole league, create pressure all day long.

  21. Dewey Selmon Says:

That would give Devin White an extra week to heal hsi mangina.

  22. Ed Says:

Bucs coaching staff should have a top priority of fixing their blocking schemes for their passing game to give Mayfield some security and time. No matter how great or how poor their running game is, they are still a dangerous offense when there is time to throw the ball.

We have to be prepared for what Detroit and Denver did which overwhelmed our pass protection. Skule has to be replaced, you cannot give up 6 sacks in 2 games and even be on the field. It is huge coaching mistake to not correct this error.

Likewise if the guards aren’t holding their ground, find a younger player that will step up.

Everything else is secondary to this project of protecting the quarterback in this offense.

  23. Beeej Says:

If Goedeke doesn’t play I’m running Philly as my fantasy defense. If he DOES play Baker will be my QB over Hurts

  24. Jeff Says:

    Eagles 20 Yucs 10

  25. Cobraboy Says:

It’s kind of sad when you depend on another team’s health and adversity to bolster your chances of victory.

  26. Gbobucsfan Says:

Last week the Bucs were bullied by no names…..something has to change.

  27. Dave Pear Says:

The previous article, the answer is, yes one missing RT with a corpse substitute can make the whole rest of the line look like dung. Secondly, the only thing that can help the Bucs is a good gameplan, someone besides the Druler to play RT, play calls to help Baker deliver quick throws, a spy on Jalen Hurts (Dennis) , something besides the prevent victory bend over and bust pass defense, and maybe a head coach who instills a little passion in his team before the game.

Pretending missing players are going to make a difference is loser ball.

    Todd is great.

  28. Permanently Moderated Says:

The Bucs better come to play football on Sunday. The lack of energy last week was so disappointing.

  29. Cobraboy Says:

@Permanently: If this team lays another egg, the wheels come off.

  30. JD Still Says:

Everyone seems to have forgotten how badly we embarrassed Philadelphia in the playoffs last year, I don’t think Philadelphia has forgotten it , that’s pretty strong motivation. It’s not going to be easy ,Everybody better show up ready for a dogfight if We don’t want to get embarrassed ourselves.

  31. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

I’m not going to give up on the Bucs because of one lousy game. I’m picking us to win, period. No conditions. No rooting for the Buc if….. No rooting for the Bucs when…. Try being a real fan for a change.
