Denver 26, Bucs 7

September 22nd, 2024

What an embarrassing display — at home against a subpar Broncos football team.

When’s the last freakin’ time the Bucs got their doors blown off without the opposing QB throwing a touchdown pass? Unreal.

Joe is stunned. Yeah, bad day by Baker Mayfield. It happens. But get rid of the ball, Baker!

But also a bad day by offensive coordinator Liam Coen. He got outcoached. Denver had seven sacks. C’mon, Coach, have something to counter the blitz. You have the talent on the field.

As for the Tampa Bay offensive line, Joe knew it was going to be a rough day when Tristan Wirfs let a guy through clean early. Joe is not a big Ben Bredeson fan, and hopefully the Justin Skule experience at right tackle is over.

The Bucs’ big issue? No pass rush. Sackless today and only two this season.

It’s a problem. When they got there today, they did a poor job finishing.

Joe also is ready to punch someone over Jamel Dean allowing so much cushion in the secondary. Why so scared of getting beat deep when Broncos QB Bo Nix doesn’t throw deep?

Todd Bowles watched his team not match the enthusiasm of a winless young team. Man, the Bucs had a chance to take a step toward a special season and crapped the bed.

Fun fact: Bowles didn’t use a timeout all day.

Perhaps, Bucs fans just watched the changing of the guard at running back. Bucky Irving is productive. Rachaad White is not. Simple as that.

What a humbling punch in the gut.

    Exactly
This team has felt different from years past all season. Im talking about culture here and it started in rookie mini camp.
This defense in the SECONDARY IS LEGIT.
Broncos don’t play well in humidity. Period.
Miami held a track meet last year.
Everyone calm down with the TRAP game nonsense.
    That is college football.
Not a well run Bowles team. Lol

Well they’ve earned my trust. Can’t say this is a
    “trap”
game because as Ira or Joe said on the podcast, this may be the worst team in the NFL.
This Bucs team is a different kind of beast this year.
I think we’ve shaken off the Brady stress and we are a team that plays for the man next to him like a band of brothers if you will. A brotherhood with a scary amount of talent on both sides. I sure hope it’s more than a 10 point win. We need an offensive confidence builder this weekend. Let’s go Liam

  12. Ben the GA Buc Says:

We were awful. We always do this, we win a couple of games early and feel we are better than everyone. Need to coach better and stop this mentality from infiltrating our team.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Straight up Shameful and Disgraceful. An 0-2 team marches into the Pirate Cove and kicks our A’s. Let this be a lesson to all who talked crap during the week about us winning. On any given Sunday in the League? You can get your lunch handed to you. Denver did that. Congrats to them.

  16. IrishTony Says:

This was a total let down and the team looked flat. I’ve seen this crap before. Win next week and you’ll be 3-1.

  17. HC Grover Says:

Do not do the over confident hype anymore on JBF, It is a jinx. I tried to warn all week.

  18. Alstott40 Says:

Piss poor display all around other than Bucky and Godwin. Liam Coen once again don’t scheme something for the blitz. Bowles don’t have his team ready smh. I agree with Joe we need to make a splash move for an edge rusher and a guard.

Welp, at least these narratives are dead now.

Bucs are pretenders. Saints are for real.

Good luck getting a wild card spot Coach Bowles

  22. Davenport Says:

    Todd Bowles Career Record

    46 – 61

He is exactly who he is – why is anyone expecting anything different?

  23. Trask To The Future Says:

    REALITY CHECK:

Before the heavy blitzes and most of the sacks came, Mayfield had a paltry 87 yards in the 4th quarter when they went up by 16 and went to a Prevent. Payton is smart and starting bringing pressure up the middle knowing Mayfield was going to drop back to throw down by 16.

    Mayfield isn’t the answer.

  24. Fred McNeil Says:

What game did you watch, Joe? I was watching Hamas vrs the goats. Baaaaahd game. Why are they so bowlegged?

  25. No Mercy Says:

We are so absolutely cooked I have zero faith in Bowles after this game I hate to be a downer but this was the most pathetic loss we have had in at least 7 years

  26. HC Grover Says:

Who can this team beat on the rest of schedule. They will be lucky to split with the Panters. Eagles may help and leave door open for Falcons.

  27. BucfaninMi Says:

Can’t beat rookie QBs, got lucky with Washington, played them early.

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Coen didn’t call a good game at all, but it looked to me like Baker was creating his own problems. He wasn’t seeing the field very well and was hesitating far too often. He was responsible for about half of his 7 sacks IMO.

  29. Leopold Stotch Says:

Also why the hell aren’t we getting the ball to Evans more!? Seriously? Scheme him open. “Oh Sorry Cade, you get all of Evans targets.” I get it, but come on. I’m happy for Chris, but sheesh let’s get our #1 some more yds.

  30. Let ‘em bake Says:

No via, no goedecke..trenches matter. Ripple effect. 5 and 5 at the bye. Start Irving. Coen will learn and adjust. Non divisional loss. The sky is not falling.

  31. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Think about the screw job this org gave Kyle Trask.

    Shameful.

  32. Kgh4life Says:

Bucs have to really look at benching Mauch or Bredeson.

  33. Trask To The Future Says:

    NEVER FORGET:

Baker Mayfield had 87 yards passing into the 4th quarter. His stat-padding against a Prevent defense is the same thing he did last year when games were out of reach.

  34. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

The offense was atricious. Absolute garbage game for the Bucs. The players and the coaches should be embarassed.

  35. Marine Buc Says:

    Back to life.

    This is a 7 maybe 8 win team…

  36. Trask To The Future Says:

  37. heyjude Says:

  38. DS Says:

I would have the Oline practice stunts all week

  39. unbelievable Says:

Reality check for the crying trask fangirl- the Broncos were blitzing all game long.

Maybe you could see the game a little better if you didn’t have Trask’s Willy down your throat.

  40. Eric Says:

Don’t expect much from your qb when he is sacked 7 times and scurries his way out of 2-3 others. He could’ve been sacked 10xs today. However, with that said there were 3-4 times he missed a much better option than he chose. That’s on him. Either way… this online sucks really bad without Goedke

  41. HC Grover Says:

Not Bakefields fault this was a team effort. Whole team. From Coaches Players and Pundits…That is the way I see it.

  42. turtleman Says:

Horrid game on both sides of the ball. You just cannot give up that many sacks on offense. On the other hand, you CANNOT have zero sacks on defense. Unacceptable.

For all the Trask fans, if you thought Baker held onto the ball for too long today, I want you to imagine what the inexperienced Trask would do. There is not a SINGLE quarterback in this league who does not have an off day (Burrow, Lamar, Hurts have all had abysmal starts to the season). Hell, even stinkin’ Derek Carr had a bad day today after his first two games of the season. This is Baker’s team, and if the Trask fans don’t like it, they can go back to watching their 2-2 Gators team (yikes).

But hey, Bucky Irving looked good!

  43. Vegasbuccaneer Says:

    Fire Todd

  44. Faspro Says:

    Yeah, Bake sucked too…

  45. HC Grover Says:

    We will not win six

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Baker running his mouth this week gossiping about Brady instead of getting ready for this game. What an idiot. They should put a poster up in the locker room that says you must be at least 5′ 9″ to mention Brady, that would keep Baker’s mouth shut.

  47. Vegasbuccaneer Says:

Third and one you play 10 yd off

  48. Trask To The Future Says:

    Unbelievable,

    1. They were absolutely NOT blitzing the entire game. They mostly blitzed in the 4th quarter when we were down 16 and they knew we had to pass almost every down.

    2. THE TAPE IS OUT THERE AND THE LEAGUE KNOWS IT. Defensive Coordinators know Mayfield struggles to throw over the middle. So if you bring pressure up the middle, he CAN’T SEE DUE TO HIS HEIGHT and so he panics and either checks down or tries to scramble. Most other QBs that are tall stand in the pocket and throw over the middle even if that’s where the pressure comes from.

  49. Alstott40 Says:

Baker Mayfield held the ball way too long but Coen didn’t help once again with the blitz. Cody Mauch and Bredeson aren’t the answer. We also need to spend money on an edge rusher whenever possible

  50. Vegasbuccaneer Says:

You need a score and save time on a clock throw it down the middle

  51. HC Grover Says:

Eagles beat Stainks!!!! Only good newz of the day

  52. Buc king Says:

Baker has been trash 2 weeks in a row .. when the offense and defense plays bad on both sides verse the worst team in the NFL in your own hoyse..it’s the coaches fault.. I think Todd needs to be fired.. its time to move past this horrible coach

  56. Trask To The Future Says:

  57. Bucs911 Says:

Next 7 games extremely tough before the bye.

  58. HC Grover Says:

bakefield is better than The Carolina Shrimp

  59. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Certain truisms as a life long Bucs fan. 1) They are always good for several no shows every season where they have a collective player and coach breakdown. 2) They will always make a rookie or 2nd or 3rd string QB look like Montana in his prime. 3) They get out coached a lot. At least the Saints lost but this season just turned ugly.

  60. Buc original Says:

Womp womp. Team needs a new start. Draft a franchise qb next year. Who’s not short.

  61. MadMax Says:

Thats why you see that the starters we have make the money they make…its early in the season guys, we’ll get the next one as long as they’re healed and can play…if they’re not ready yet, fine…its early….all good.. let em heal

  62. dmatt Says:

I’ve said it thousand times before n will say it again,JDean is garbage. He’s nothing close to being our best cb or a top 20 cb. He can’t catch n struggles with coverage. McCollum is on his way to being a top corner in the nfl. Put in Funderburke n see what he can do.

  63. Bnasty25 Says:

Our o line is atrocious….same with our d line we need to build the trenches again asap

  64. Chad Says:

Once again anyone blaming just baker is a hater, at least be unbiased and admit the team as a whole was terrible and baker does get some blame, but o-line, and defense was terrible. Just got to be better at every facet of the game

  65. captivajim Says:

All on Mr Todd Bowles ……so when will he be gone ???

  66. Curse of Gruden Says:

Hard to have any of “Joe’s confidence” after this pathetic performance.

  67. Ed Says:

Super concerned about the offensive and defensive lines with their lack of physical strength and stamina. Interesting for Joe to post sacks given up and sacks made rankings compared to the rest of the league.

Mayfield isn’t comfortable and is hesitant to stay in the pocket.

This team suddenly looks weak after the Lions win

  68. Drunkinybor Says:

It’s one loss. At this point at my age I dont get too high or too low. 7 sacks we got zero. A will say all off season I wanted a legit edge rusher and thought that was a glaring mistake. Also I didn’t trust Cody at all. He seemed to be lifted the starting job because Licht had a great track record with small school lineman.

  69. No Mercy Says:

Todd Bowles was smiling after the game like this was fun for him I can’t

  70. 1#bucsfan Says:

Most of JOEs articles this week were about how trash Bo Nix and the broncos are and how we will win by 2 scores. Eat crow JOE. You’ve bin around long enough to know there are no easy wins in the nfl. Any team can win on any given Sunday.

  71. MegaFailure Says:

    ya-ya is nah-nah

  72. BUC4L Says:

Goes back to never underestimating your opponent. Any given Sunday you can have your arse handed to you. Also keep your mouth shut when talking about the goat. There is a reason he won a ton of superbowls so show respect. Silver lining offense and defensive line wins you the games. We had 3 significant injuries on them. Time to tighten up and be ready to smash some people in the mouth. Go Bucs!

  73. Chad Says:

Baker will be the qb next season, no good qb is gonna fall in tampas pick range, and also trask ain’t the answer, so you might as well just give up on trask. Unless baker is seriously injured trask won’t play

  74. unbelievable Says:

I don’t disagree about throws over the middle, but they were bringing extra rushers the entire game you dingus.

  75. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

LOL so how many games will the Bucs win over their next 7?

  76. Hodad Says:

I now know why YaYa wears #0, because that’s how many sacks he gets each game. He’s JTS 2.0, who has one sack thru 3 games. We’ve hailed Licht for these great drafts but right now JTS, Hall, YaYa, Mauch who again was abused. Dennis played like garbage as did Britt. Broncos 7 sacks, Bucs 0. Same story last week but we got lucky. Won’t win if we can’t get sacks, and can’t keeping them from happening. It was said people high up were crying after last week’s win. I bet they were crying today too.

  77. Irish Laughter Says:

I agree, Baker is a distraction. I don’t know why someone with 20 seconds worth of fame is targeting someone who had 23 years of greatness. I think he gets it from Joe Anyway, Baker will rebound and the Bucs will get back on track next week. It’s 9pm in Skibbereen and its getting late early (Yogi Berra) Keeping it real in Ireland.

  78. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Terrible coaching. Reminds me that Bowles is a sub .500 coach with a lot of games played. And Baker looked like he used to. Bad signs.

  79. 1#bucsfan Says:

Also Bucky had a few good runs outside those 2 long runs he was stuffed in the backfield just as much as white. The running game as a whole is terrible not just 1 person to blame JOE

  80. churrasco Says:

unbelievable Says: “Reality check for the crying trask fangirl- the Broncos were blitzing all game long.”

Reality check for the crying Baker Bois. That’s because Payton knows Baker is a shrimp who can’s see the field.

  81. DS Says:

Yaya been invisible all season where is vita and man is Kancey ever coming back? Also Mauch isn’t ready and gets beat routinely Bredeson is garbage too Wirfs hasn’t been wirfs bake get rid of the ball man. Start Bucky dude is special

  82. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Baker talked ish about the GOAT.

    What a moron.

  83. No Mercy Says:

This schedule is brutal I fully expect us to lose the next two games no doubt about it

  84. Chad Says:

At the same time gave Tom his credit also, like I said if your just blaming baker, then go ahead and admit your a hater cuz that’s all I see

  85. JustVisiting Says:

Trask to the Future: No, Mayfield was around 12/18 (66%) for most of that stretch. That’s about average for the league this season. Not great, but still not awful. If his % improved against a prevent D, well, yeah…it would be weird if he got worse.

  86. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Watching Carolina.

They’re moving the ball with Dalton.

  87. churrasco Says:

Wow, Chad has serious butthurt about the prospect of Trask playing All because of what school he went to? You’re not a Bucs fan. You’re an FSU frat boy.

  88. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Canales will beat Tampa with Dalton

  89. heyjude Says:

Baker had no protection, nonetheless he does hold onto the ball way too long. The announcers acted as though Bo was John Elway in this game, only one game. They were then calling him Houdini. I guess they knew that was what Bucs fans on here called Baker. The refs didn’t call blatant penalties on the Broncos. Bucky did very well. Hope we do much better against the Eagles and win next week.

  90. Kenton Smith Says:

Damn. 7 points. That’s on the QB and OC. Lots of work to do. No excuses for 7 points.

  91. Red86 Says:

Pride comes before the fall. Maybe we will turn things around soon.

  92. WiseCrack Says:

To yall mentioning drafting a QB.

Simple question, would you be ok with Drafting a Heisman Trophy runner up with 4 years of XP behind Brady and a TWO #1 overall QBs who have busted?

I would REALLY like to see whoever that guy is get a snowballs chance here in TAMPA because I am a Die Hard BUCCANEER fans

  93. Chad Says:

Churrasco for the last time I’m a uk fan, fsu is ass just like trask, trask will not play. You can keep hating baker all you want but it ain’t gonna get trask on the field. Also im not butt hurt over anything I’m being unbiased when it comes to the players that actually are playing time. Your just a hater and possibly a retard

  94. Bucs4Ever Says:

Jason Licht owns this…both lines are garbage

  95. Chad Says:

Kenton if your gonna throw up the offense only putting up 7 points you have to talk about the defense giving up all the points they did as well, that’s on the coach and defense as a whole. Let’s just say it was a brutal game on both sides of the ball and both sides have to play better

  96. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs oline is bad. Tristan is regressing and both guards are replaceable. Coen’s game planning was awful today.

    Terrible game.

Well Detroit is a wasted game now.
When calculating the won/lost before the season,
Detroit was an L that was flipped to a W.
So of course you crapped the bed and flipped a W
    to an L.
Way to celebrate your notoriety. This is why everyone said
    7-10 for the season.
Maybe everyone is too loose and relaxed. Maybe
A certain QB would have kept the team on track.
If you want to keep easy going Coach Smiley around,
someone better get matches to light a fire.

  101. Chad Says:

Bakers press conference took responsibility instead of putting his o-line down, said a lot of pressures were his fault, and that they have to be a hell of a lot better.

  102. GregH Says:

This is on coaching..HC,OC…poor prep..no adjustments… major holes on OL and no pass rush…rookie QB… west coast travel to RayJay and annihilate and embarrass home team…this has nothing to do with injuries either…this is a gut punch loss

  103. adam from ny Says:

the bucs were tip toeing thru the tulips between the white lines today…

payton is smirking and giggling in the locker room…

he might have even called jameis in cleveland to see if he can fed ex the strobe light over to the visitior’s locker room for the party…

it’s almost like back to square one after a performance like this…

in hindsight, this could be the worst loss of the season when looking back later on

you literally go from on a roll to total reset

  104. Vancouver Buc Says:

Goat karma…when u criticize the Goat this is what happens. There’s a reason why TB12 has 7 rings and this mouthpiece will end up with zero.

  105. Trask To The Future Says:

    CHAD,

I’ve got news for you… if Mayfield continues to play poorly, he’ll be BENCHED and your worst fears will come true that Kyle Trask will become the starting QB.

It won’t be a Bowles call… it will be a Glazer family call. They won’t sit back and watch Baker continue to struggle for yards and move the offense.

  108. DBS Says:

Apologies to Jeff. He was right. No reason for this fiasco other than Payton is in our coaches head no matter the strength of his team.

  109. EssexBuccaneer Says:

Once again, the Bucs fanbase proves itself to be the most laughable reactionary group in sports. It was a bad loss. It happens. ‘The season is over’? Don’t make me laugh.

  110. ATLBUC Says:

Is your fault, Joe for trashBo Nix inall of your articles?

  111. D-ManTX Says:

During game I was having flashbacks to last season with poor O-line protection, a D that can’t stop drives and running White up the middle.. I half expected to
see Canales on the sideline. Let’s not go back to last season. Hopefully we get some back from injury, get better keeping Baker upright, and we get Bucky involved more. Next week is going to be difficult as we play Eagles. Hopefully we can respond but Eagles are likely looking forward to this revenge game.

  112. orlbucfan Says:

Why does this thread read like the end of the world? Really? Home team is 2-1. They played a bad game. First, where was a D spy on Nix? There was a lot of Denver O holding in the first half, not called. They put on a clinic. What’s with Mayfield? Is he hurt? 10-12 sacks in the last 2 games?

  113. PowerOfPewter Says:

Sean Peyton continues to own the Bucs. Broncos showed up ready to go, Bucs by and large were loose. sloppy, and out-coached. Irving had a good game, continues to solidly out-play White. Zyon played generally well, Dean was repeatedly picked on. Bucs’ OL continued to play poorly, particularly Skule. D couldn’t get a pass rush, played too far off Bronc’s WRs, and whiffed on too many tackles. Although it was obvious Den D was going to focus on shutting down Evans and Godwin, the other Bucs skill players couldn’t step up.

  114. EssexBuccaneer Says:

Of course Brady famously never played a bad game in Tampa

Skule simply isn’t getting the job done. Need Goedeke back, and Bucs need better depth at Tackle.

  116. Sean Furniss Says:

  119. Tony Says:

They need another CB (maybe two), another DE, another OL (maybe two), maybe another DT & depending on what goes on with Baker maybe a QB. That’s why they need to hang onto all of their draft picks & trade down at times also to get more picks, too!

  120. Boltsfan17 Says:

This is a mediocre team with lousy head coach. Team needed major changes in the offseason but instead they pissed away tons of cap space on subpar talent.

    2-15 coming right up .
Ready to fire Todd Bowles yet ? No ? You will be before seasons end !!

  122. Noclu4u Says:

What is it now ? 14 sacks giving up in three games.

  123. Alstott40 Says:

I don’t wanna hear no comment again about this oline being on Licht. For one Ali Marpet retired really early and we have still not recovered from that. Jensen had to retire early as well due to serious injury. He has done a phenomenal job with the oline and struck big time with Wirfs and Barton so far. Some of you guys really over react over one game. He’s also tried hard with the defensive line and yes I believe Hall an JTS are bust, too early to tell with Diaby. However he picked Vea and signed Suh and JPP for the Super Bowl year so quit with the Licht bashing and put respect on his name

  124. Buc king Says:

Baker played like absolute garbage 2 weeks in a row..no if ands or buts about it..his vlock is off and he’s not prepared or pre reading the defense..no mismatches no isolated plays..no getting the best buccaneers in buc history involved in the game…
Did Mike play??? Baker should be ashamed of his self and if he ever in fn life talks bad about Brady again im roast him for days..
I will but a ticket behind the bucs side of the field and I will roast him just like I did Matt Ryan… I had all the falcons players mad it kinda back fired but I can tell I had them hot.
I’m tired of seeing a poor coached team.
This starts at the top.. the oline is garbage. Baker is not 3 to 5 Step getting it out..hes taking to long to drop the ball off to the rb and throwing it like trash.
Play call today was very uncreative look like Bowles has put his finger in the pot again..
Runs up the middle on first..no screens..no play actions..saw we we killing them on the edge and didn’t even try again???

  125. Ol' Boy Says:

But at least they got paid.

  126. Tony Says:

I had them going 9-8 from the beginning.

  127. Darin Says:

If the broncos are subpar you need to start addressing your Bucs different. They both had a two game sample size. Superior today not subpar. Get your head out of the clouds Joe’s. Theres no gimmes

  128. Lightning Buc Says:

@ unbelievable Says: Uh, Saints lost. Maybe not “for real”. Go away troll.

  129. Beeej Says:

In our super Bowl season, we lost a game to the Taints 38-3, post mortem was exactly like this

  130. GoneGator Says:

Just horrible ALL AROUND. O-line was dominated, D-line was dominated, Coen had circles coached around him, the defense was “flat”. Baker sucked.

Hard to find anything to feel good about after this embarrassment 🙁

  131. BucU Says:

I cant stomach watching any of their press conferences. I don’t wanna her jack from Bowles, Baker or anyone else. Imagine the gall to show up for a big game this unprepared physically and mentally?
    This is on YOU Bowles.

  132. MomBucsFan Says:

The sky is not falling. Broncos beat chiefs last year. Payton is a brilliant coach. But we need to fix offense I’ve line. . we have some swinging gates. Also when vea, Winfield and goedeke
are out and we do not have kancey, barrett and white when he was focused on winning, we have lost some key parts of our success. We need money and higher draft picks to really have a contending team. We have good players but not enough of them, not enough depth. When will GM get the players that can get the job done and stop acquiring perennial injured players?

  133. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Bowles, any OC he hires and Mayfield are the ingredients for a mediocre team. Only good thing Mayfield has is a higher win % than Bowles.

  134. Beeej Says:

You give ANY NFL qb (even Sam Darnold) enough time, and he will shred you. This game was a perfect example

  135. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Jason Licht’s oline sucks

  136. BPBucsfan Says:

Bucs just don’t seem to have high priority on pass rush. Montez Sweat could’ve been had last year for 2nd round pick. Now bolstering the Chicago defense. Another big pass rusher was moved last year too, Brian Burns maybe? Can’t remember for sure. Neither were apparently pursued. Oh well.

  137. Sumosam Says:

It’s an NFL thing. Very few teams go 0 and 3. The fan base and everyone else quits watching the team at 0 and 3. The outcome of this game was so easy to see. Don’t tell me the NFL isn’t already decided. It is. There is too much money in it now. It’s turned into a bunch of crap.

  138. Beeej Says:

Burns would have been a 1st round pick. We could have HAD Sweat tho

  139. BucU Says:

A complete and utter organizational failure from top to bottom. Disgusting performance. I won’t be fooled again by this fool Bowles and his soft and slow loser players.
