Chase Daniel: Give Me Baker Mayfield

September 28th, 2024

Ex-NFL backup QB has Baker Mayfield’s back.

Scoff at Chase Daniel if you want. But very few quarterbacks ever got over on the NFL like this guy did.

The former slimy Saints backup (who got a ring in New Orleans), who also wore the uniforms of the Chiefs, Eagles, Bears, Lions and Chargers, started just five games in his career.

Yet Daniel pocketed some $41 million for being a professional, seasoned clipboard holder. Joe thinks that’s pretty damn savvy to find NFL teams to pony up good cash like that for a guy who only twice in 12 seasons threw multiple touchdowns in a game.

Now Daniel does what many ex-quarterbacks do. He talks about the game for a living. He’s often on Kay Adams’ show and now he’s popping up on FS1 shows like “The Facility.”

When it comes to picking tomorrow’s game between the Eagles and Bucs, Daniel believes it is a no-brainer. It’s the Bucs. Why? Because of Baker Mayfield.

Daniel made it clear he doesn’t think Mayfield is overall a better quarterback than Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts. What Daniel does know is that in the past 11 games, Mayfield is playing far better than Hurts.

Also, Daniel said he trusts Mayfield’s weapons a whole lot more than the backups Hurts is going to have to lean on in the passing game tomorrow due to injuries.

Fellow panelist and former Bucs running back Shady McCoy didn’t seem to like what was coming out of Daniel’s piehole when speaking about Mayfield. You can see for yourself in the FS1 video below.

Big game! My son and his Eagle loving friends are coming over for a cookout and the game. Can’t lose to my son’s Eagles. I would lose my current bragging rights.

  2. MF Bucs Says:

Love Chase Daniel, Mizzou legend!! Also let’s beat the hell outta Philly!

  3. LakelandBuc Says:

It’s obvious Chase Daniels didn’t watch the Broncos game. The majority of Baker Mayfield yardage came in garbage time against the Broncos. Chase Daniels expertise is holding a clipboard, he should stick to that .

I’m a lifelong Bucs fan, but I’m also a realistic. The Bucs can be a great offensive team, if Liam Coen get the ball to his playmakers. This offense don’t need a heroic QB. All we need is a QB to get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.

    It’s not complicated
It don’t take a Rocket Scientist to figure it out

A surprise win would be good after the dang hurricane week. it sucked

Shady Mccoy is the MOST annoying person on this show. Sometimes the other people on the show get annoyed at him as well. He hates so many players, I don’t even know who he likes at this point. He is immature, unprofessional, and looks like the kid in class who screws off all day and argues with the teacher.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Picking a team to win simply because of 1 player seems a tad myopic to me Joe. Rumor has it that QBs aren’t nearly as effective throwing the ball when lying flat on their back (12 sacks in 2 games) or when incessantly being chased (32 pressures in just 3 games).

Baker & our offense did very well against Washington … a team that sports the #29 defense in the NFL. They didn’t do so well against Detroit (even though we won) … the Lions have the #9 defense. We did even worse against Denver … the Broncos have the #6 defense. IOW our offense has struggled against better defenses (same was true last year).

Philadelphia has the #17 defense, on a par with our own defense (#15). Eagles have been better against the pass (#17) than they have against the run (#24). Same thing’s not quite true for our own defense BTW (pass defense #24; run defense #25). Where the Bucs’ defense has excelled thus far is in not giving up passing TDs (only allowed 1).

Odds are pretty good that the Eagles are gonna run then run some more, UNTIL we demonstrate that we can stop Barkley. Bucs best chance to win IMO is to do the same … run then run some more. And yes, use Baker as part of the planned runs (RPOs, etc). And if the Eagles stack the box, use rollouts to buy time for Baker to hit Evans & Palmer deep & Godwin intermediate (opposing QBs are 9-for-20 deep against the Eagles’ Secondary, with 2 TDs but 1 INT).

Hey, you could always disown him if the Eagles win. That’d teach him. It’s uncivilized to take away a dad’s bragging rights.

Chase was a great QB in college and I always thought he would have been a hell of a good pro had he ever got the chance. Unfortunately he had to ride the bench behind a future HOFer [ Drew Breeze[. I thought the Cowboys should have taken him. But for some reason THE cowboys DON’T SEEM TO DRAFT Texas born QBs. They missed Chase, they missed Johnny football, and they missed Baker. All of whom could have been great QBs if they were on the right team. Fortunately Baker has that chance now.
    Go Bucs.

The closest bar to my house is the biggest Eagles bar in Orlando. Dangerous place (really) on Sundays for anyone who is not an Eagles fan. To top it off the food is crappy, just like in Philly.

Shady hates the BUCS period… but Baker adds the explanation point!!!

Hey Joes: What are the field conditions? Cedar Key (a bit further north) is History. RJS is very close to Tampa Bay.

Cedar Key is way to the north, and is hardly ‘history’.

RJS is fine, it was no more than tropical storm conditions in the area. Didn’t even get that much rain, just a couple of inches. Pinellas has a bunch of power outages, but that’s the worst of it for the most part.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Baker on the year… 45.3 QBR, 23rd in the NFL, just came off his worst game since being in Tampa according to QBR.

Obviously some of that goes to the terrible offensive line play, mainly all by Sucke who is God-awful and has no business being on an NFL roster, or even an Arena Football League roster. Hopefully if Luke is back, if he’s not, this game will be over before it starts.

As for Baker, yeah the offensive line play was bad last week, but Baker made it a lot worse by holding the ball forever and not being decisive. Hopefully this week he kept his mouth shut gossiping about Brady and instead focused on doing his job so he doesn’t put up yet another embarrassing performance.

  15. Permanently Moderated Says:

We’ve seen what Baker can do with a clean pocket. If and when that happens, he’ll be fine. If he doesn’t get hurt first.

Literally every QB in the NFL can perform well if they have all day to throw the ball.

With that said, with Luke out again, tomorrow is going to be a disaster.

Just Be Baker Bro!! Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

  18. Jerseybuc Says:

McCoy is a real clown. Everything he says is nonsense. Dude stole two superbowl rings

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Baker should be allowed to pack a firearm when dropping to pass. It’s the only protection he’d get. Shameful. Todd.

  20. Kenton Smith Says:

I’m putting my money on Baker having a bounce back today and the Bucs winning today. Baker is also 4 – 0 in Thursday night games. I think today it may take a 4th Qtr comeback like last year’s Vikings or Falcons game. It’ll be close. If we can get to 4 – 1 with 10 days off and get our guys healthy – we’ll be right where we want to be. Optimistic – Hell Yeah!!
