Career Day For Zyon McCollum

September 15th, 2024

The first pass by Jared Goff on Sunday became Zyon McCollum’s first career interception.

That’s the way to bust a streak!

But McCollum didn’t stop there. The Bucs’ third-year cornerback had three more passes defensed (a career high) and six solo tackles, which tied a career high.

Damn good for a guy coming back from a concussion.

Fun fact: Carlton Davis, the former Bucs cornerback traded to Detroit to make room for McCollum in the Bucs’ starting lineup? He’s still looking for an official pass defensed this season.

McCollum was among the legitimate Bucs question marks entering this season. He had only 9 previous starts and was replacing a cog in the 2020 Super Bowl team.

As of now, Bucs fans have far greater concerns than if McCollum, a 2022 fifth-round pick, can step up into his new full-time starter role. He’s done a heck of a job through two games.

It def looked like Zyon could’ve had 3 picks.

  2. unbelievable Says:

Zyon impressed the hell out of me today.

I was real skeptical of gifting him a starting job but I’m gladly eating my crow.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

We don’t win this game if he’s out. Bravo to him, his mates, Todd, and Baker for overcoming the most scathingly horrendous performance by a corpse pretending to be able to walk upright, in this Drule stiff.

Such failure cannot be accepted. No one should let this man play another snap let alone start. Good crust. (As in pizza crust, in case any of the “in vain” snowflakes are offended. Lordy.)

  4. BillyBucco Says:

First time maybe I have wholeheartedly agreed with The Pear.
Skooled should never play another down of football unless it is with his kids in the back yard.
He broke a 41 year old record all by himself. And not the good kind!
There has to be a practice squad guy better than this nugget.

  5. Aaron Says:

Unbelievable what you ganna give him a starting job at telling what to do no one will listen to you dumb A lol

  6. Rod Munch Says:

I didn’t see who was cover who in the game since I was focused on how awful Sucke was at RT, but wasn’t Davis shadowing Evans all day?

I really don’t get why the pettiness towards ex-players.

  7. Saskbucs Says:

Can’t say enough about the attitude and performance from that D today. Potential of our young guys fully realized against a top tier opponent. Incredible to watch and super exciting for the future of this club.

  8. Badbucs Says:

A big bright spot among many others. This team has character. Izien, Tykee, Dennis, Whitehead, Godwin to name a few. Great team effort and coaching. Now we have to adjust some players. Skule gone. Mauck needs to sit.

  9. heyjude Says:

Zyon right off the bat had a a great game, along with others. They played hard for the win. To be honest, many so-called teams that were chosen to win had close games or lost yesterday. We probably had the most main injuries and won. Once the Bucs are healthy, all these teams better look out!

Well said – Badbucs, Saskbucs, unbelievable, and others.

  10. Ryan Smith Says:

Zion and Dennis (8) had great games.

  11. BucU Says:

There were so many hero’s in that game but what stood out to me the most was Zyon and Sirvocea Dennis. Huge games for both.

  12. WhatTheBuc Says:

I think technically the interception that CD3 dropped last week counts as a pass defensed.

  13. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I shared Todd Bowles’ confident in McCollum and never thought he was a question mark. Zyon was going into his third year in the system and played extensively last year and looked good doing it. There was more than enough evidence to give us confidence Zyon would ball out.

  14. heyjude Says:

    BucU – Yes Dennis too!

  15. MikethegoatEvans Says:

    Carlton who??

  16. El HEFE Rick Says:

I told y’all he was gonna get that pic I was gonna say izein too because I knew they were gonna test him like he doesn’t know how to catch smh oh yeah Jts isn’t letting no one take his spot he will get better this year no less than 8 sacks

  17. El HEFE Rick Says:

Oh yeah and Dennis will eventually take Britt’s spot if he stays healthy by the6th game and we will be in the Super Bowl playing stroud

  18. Crickett Baker Says:

Info, you must have a mighty big crow since you are still eating it.
BTW, add Whitehead to your “great player” lists.

  19. Wilfff Says:

My favorite part was when he flipped David Montgomery! He is a violent runner who is used to tricking the first man, so to see that level of physicality was seriously impressive.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Just reading these posts – makes me want to watch the game again with plenty of celebratory beverages. Woohoo.

  21. Kelvin waters Says:
