Bucs Still In First Place; Saints Lose In Final Minute

September 22nd, 2024

That painful groin-stomp Bucs loss to the Broncos today might be soothed a bit by a glance at the NFC South standings.

The slimy Saints showcased their veteran defense and locked down the Eagles 12-7 in New Orleans — until the final minute of the game. The Eagles got a Dallas Goedert catch-and-run for 61 yards on 3rd-and-16 late in the fourth quarter, which led to the game-winning touchdown.

Final score: Eagles 15, Saints 12.

New Orleans, like the Bucs, is now 2-1. The Falcons (1-1) host the Chiefs tonight. The Bucs host the Eagles (2-1) next Sunday.

It won’t erase the stain of the Bucs getting upset at home by a weak team, but it’s something.

Next week’s Bucs-Eagles game now looms very large.

We won’t be next week if we play like that

  2. unbelievable Says:

    The difference is:

The Saints played a close game against a playoff contender and recent SB team.

Bucs got blown out in every phase of the game by a bottom-3 team with a rookie QB.

  3. Nutterbutter95 Says:

Could have pulled ahead of NO with a tough few weeks left … but whatever blow a game against a pi$$ poor team. See this come to bite us in the butt come january

  4. HC Grover Says:

Irrational but sounds good. I do not think anything can help this disaster. A total collapse. This team is broken. There is no excuse for it. That game was close. This game was a total collapse.

  5. ElioT Says:

Todd doesn’t know what he’s doing.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs in first place is a joke when you’re blown out by the worst team in football.

Bowles and Baker collapse is just flat out embarrassing. 7 points on offense, at home, when you’re undefeated. Just flat out pitiful.

  7. ElioT Says:

Can’t wait for the next poll.

  8. HC Grover Says:

    Bucs Eagles….HaHa Ha HoHo Ho.

  9. SenileSenior Says:

It is not as much it was trap game but that it was another Sean Peyton frustration. I still love our team this year.

    Go Bucs!

  10. Winny Testaverde Says:

A moral victory for sure. Love seeing Used Carr melt down with pressure/game in the line.

  11. OHBucFan Says:

The Eagles are extremely beatable. Unfortunately, so are the Bucs. Hope the trenches get healthy.
    Run Bucky run.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

I hope one of these gutless reporters ask Baker about him running his mouth about Brady and how he justifies doing that then coming out and putting up a trash game like this.

  13. 1#bucsfan Says:

Bowles needs to tell dean to stop playing so far back. That prevent zone defense before halftime to let them walk down the field for another score was trash.

  14. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Being in first place due to another team failing is more about luck than being good. Against such a team that has struggled we traded places and did a horrible job on both sides of the ball. Sean Payton knows our game plans as well as Bowles.

  15. Winny Testaverde Says:

It’s going to be a busy and bitter week at Hairdresser Hot Rod Mulch’s Salon/Saloon. Karen’s kicking the dirt and many o’ feelings hurt. Wish I had a live feed to that shat show!

  16. SlyPirate Says:

    CONCERNS:
    1. Coen can’t adjust. He’s getting Baker killed.
    2. Yaya is the new JTS. JTS is still JTS.
    3. Team has no pride … that’s Bowles.
    4. White and Britt need to be benched. Bowles won’t do it.

  17. Jack Burton Mercert Says:

Afraid this was the real Mayfield

  18. heyjude Says:

Great news that the Saints lost. We need to be ready for the Eagles and win next week. We could have a couple of starters back too.

  19. Bubby Says:

    Pathetic!

  20. Jack Burton Mercert Says:

Oh yeah, Diaby and Kancey are WAY overrated.

  21. rrsrqnc Says:

Bucs better fix this offensive line. Period. Eagles will bring pressure and are guards are putrid. The return of Luke will help on the outside, but the interior bull rush will hurt us. Why hasn’t Jason Licht called the Jets

  22. Bucfan Says:

    Extend Bowles contract!!

  23. HC Grover Says:

Hey bakefield….about Brady….quit listen to the Buc optimists. Win a few Super Bowls then brag.

  24. ElioT Says:

JBF WIN if there ever was one
    .

  25. churrasco Says:

After playing like that, being in “first place” is more useless than your “useless” preseason games.

  26. Natron Says:

Everybody relax, Bowles gave the Bucs the week off after the Lions win

  27. ElioT Says:

    Todd Bowles is awful

With his big ass t**^^s swaying around win or lose.

  28. churrasco Says:

Today was a master class for 31 NFL coaches on how to stifle Mayfield.

  29. rfdes Says:

yep… here we go. The old ‘were still in 1st place BS’.

  30. adam from ny Says:

good philly didn’t lose 2 in a row to our divisional foes…

they’d be a desperate team coming in here next week…

after todays performance we should be the desperate hungry squad…

we “should” be ready for those eagles

  31. churrasco Says:

When the game was out of reach but enough time was left to let Trask run the starting offense for a couple series for the first time ever, that Bowles kept Mayfield in there is a disgrace. Either Bowles is terrified of showing the world that he made a mistake, Baker is too much of a p*ssy to allow competition, or both.

  32. Stuck Says:

Aints look competitive. We look pathetic

  33. PewterStiffArm Says:

For whatever reason, year after year, head coach after head coach, the Buc’s have one or two of these stinkers at home. Flat, no enthusiasm, lack of fundamental execution, on all three phases. You don’t think teams with better defense lines aren’t going to blitz this team on every down from here until the end of the season? Four hours of my life will never be retrieved after this debacle. The best thing that happened today? The slimy Saints lost, and hopefully the Falcons will get chopped by a tomahawk.

  34. Dave Pear Says:

Eagles will clean Todd’s demotiva clock next week.

  35. orlbucfan Says:

Why was a defensive spy not put on Nix? Broncos put on a holding clinic in the first half. Why wasn’t holding called? Usual doom tread on here. Bucs are 2-1. Was Mayfield hurt? 10-12 sacks in the last 2 games.

  36. orlbucfan Says:

    thread not tread.

  37. Saskbucs Says:

Embarrassing performance. For everyone not named Bucky or Chris.

Can’t get these injured guys back fast enough. If the opposing edge rusher would have walked to Baker, Skule would have backed up into Baker and sacked him himself.

Nelson with the QBs back turned takes a dive at his feet. How about the speed from Britt on the 2nd TD. Dead to rights in the backfield and Nelson Britt and whoever the corner CB or S was … yikes. Keystone Cops.

Dean nice whiff on Humphrey. Terrible attempt at a tackle. These guys must have been partying this week. Tackling looked like bunch of high schoolers try to hump a football. So upsetting watching that trash today.

  38. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

I don’t like to complain but that was awful. Baker getting sacked that many times is pathetic. If Evans is getting eliminated each game where the heck is this superstar McMullin? The defense needs to learn how not to bend so far. Why does this team always lose the ones we’re supposed to win. Especially at home? Sad. Just sad.

  39. Jbeachbuc Says:

It’s a Bucs life …. Those who have been here since the beginning , know this to be true.

  40. Jbeachbuc Says:

    … as do others …

  41. View from 132 Says:

    Who cares. Not a champion.

  42. Dave Pear Says:

LOL. Todd proved once again, he’s more comfortable with being a loser than being excellent. Eagles are gonna kill Todd this time. 5-12 would be optimistic.

  43. Dave Pear Says:

It’s so easy to fall in love…

Who btw. Old play better RT than Skule from her wheelchair and get the team more emotionally prepared than they current position co h over promoted to head couch.
