Bucs Have Been There, Done That

September 17th, 2024

It’s just about winning.

Is it just that the Bucs know how to win?

Bucs types will tell you the team has won a Super Bowl and has since won three straight NFC South titles. And, the Bucs have the third-best regular season record since Tom Brady came to town.

In other words, the Bucs are sick and tired of being shat on by the folks who should know better covering the NFL.

Mike Tanier seems to get it. The long-time NFL columnist and former high school math teacher of Joe Flacco typed on his Substack this week that Sunday’s win over the Lions was a typical Bucs win. He said dating back to Brady’s days, Tampa Bay finds a way to win.

… Liam Coen has freshened up their stale offense with some Sean McVay tactics. The Buccaneers know they can stay in games like this one, which is the first step toward winning a bunch of them.

Knowing how to win. Isn’t that what good teams do?

And despite the record, people had the gall to think the Bucs would be in the bottom third of the league, in part because they didn’t have Kirk Cousins or new free agents that get the fantasy crowd to wet their pant.

You know, a winner like Davante Adams or Stefon Diggs or Cousins.

(Yes, Joe is being very sarcastic with that last line.)

When the Bucs beat Denver, they’ll get all the media attention anyone could want with the Eagles next up. Love that Todd said “on to Denver” immediately after the game. “Trap games” in the NFL sound kind of cliche to me given that the players are professional and paid but the upcoming game sounds like the perfect opportunity to let a 3-0 start get away. Hope Bowles knows how to motivate the team for that.
Did I see a graphic correctly, Joe? Four straight years of going 2-0 to start the season? Apparently that’s rare? Bowles knows how to win. Hopefully he and Baker will start getting the respect they deserve but personally, I like them being slighted. Like to see the chips resting on their shoulders.

Doesn’t look like the Eagles are a dominant club after last night’s performance. One game at a time. On to Denver!

  4. PTR Says:

I’m wetting my pants due to picking up CG14 on my fantasy team!

    Todd Bowles has moxie.

  6. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Saquon Barkley does not have moxie.

After facing the 32nd and 27th ranked defenses from a year ago Lil B will be tested against the 22nd worse this week.

More stats to get Joe wet or warm and fuzzy.

As far as learning how to Win another team in the NFCS is starting to gel and just stepped into the mix.

Falcons punted twice, had no 3 and outs, gave the ball up on downs in their own territory late, and finished with a picture perfect drive to Win.

NFCS is going to be Super Competitive between themselves and is now a 3 horse race. Not many go wire to wire unless they are a Secretariot and the Bucs are by no stretch that. It’s a long season and the Bucs may win a short race like the Preakness but will they have the gas to win the Belmont Stakes at the end.

All 4 NFC Divisions have a lot of things going on early and will certainly change by week 10.

I never thought I’d say it but Bowles is a damn good head coach.

    Triple Crown Baby! Triple Crown!

You may be a fan of the NFCS but you are NO fan of the Bucs.
    Take your ish elsewhere!

A winning attitude cannot be coached, nor can confidence.
Sometimes it can be imported via free agency, but that is rare.
While the seeds may have been planted in 2020, it seems the attitude is growing team wide. A few of you know just how long I’ve been waiting to be able to say that!

Speaking of schedules, the next 4 games are no plate of cupcakes for our Bucs. They’ve got Denver and Philly at RJS and the Falcons and Aints on the road. I’m not surprised that the NFC South is tightening up. it was a ballbuster division when Brees and Matty Ice were playing. The Panthers weren’t limp kitties either. Bucs win the division crown this year, and will I be cheering or what?! I’m waving bye-bye to all those years of Yuks and the Clown Princes (Losers) of the NFL. Go Bucs!!

The Bucs are showing everyone who they are. Good for Tanier for speaking the truth.

Falcons got lucky last night. Bad late play calling for the Eagles. They gave the Falcons the game.

  13. Citrus County Says:

Someone tell Todd Bowles “Thanks for the showing of excitement at the podium.” Now that he has done that he certainly has my permission to revert back to his stoic ways.

I think I can safely say for the first time that the Bucs have a stable foundation.

In my opinion the Lions game was the first time I saw (or listened) to Todd Bowles thoroughly outcoach the opponent. Congratulations Coach ! Go Bucs !

    Bucs updated depth chart …
SirVocea Dennis is now listed as the starter. Good for him.

    2 surprises …
    1) Bucs haven’t upgraded or brought in a RT to compete with Skule. Even is LG comes back, Skule is still a major liability.
    2) Bucs haven’t brought in a Punter to compete with Camarda. Not sure what’s up with him. He was arguably my favorite players last year but he’s washed.

  15. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Nothing about the Broncos or the Eagles scares me at all. We’re going to start 4-0.

  16. Esteban85 Says:

I would call them Liam Coen tactics since he’s the one calling the plays
