Bucky Irving Humbled By Bucs Fans; Vows Not To Make Mistake Twice

Talks making defenders miss..

Big day yesterday for Bucs rookie running back Bucky Irving. It was his first NFL game. He admitted to briefly getting caught up in the moment since yesterday he realized a childhood dream.

“Yeah, you get a little emotional,” Irving said. He said he quickly checked himself as he knew he had a job to do.

What stood out for Irving were two things — one very cool and one not so cool that he promised he would put an end to.

The cool part was, in his first NFL game before a packed house, Bucs fans embraced him so much they were chanting his name in the second half after he started rolling through the Commandos defense.

Oh yes, Joe heard the chants from the press box loud and clear.

“Buh-kee… Buh-kee… Buh-kee… Buh-kee… Buh-kee… ” the fans chanted. You better believe Irving heard it.

“It was great, it was a great experience hearing the fans cheer my name and welcome me into Tampa,” Irving said. “It’s always a blessing to hear those types of things from the crowd.”

Now the bad. One play. One! Irving, known for always somehow, some way being slithery enough to make the first defender miss, got tackled yesterday by the first man.

That bothers him.

“I let the first guy tackle me this week,” Irving said. “I’m going to own up to it.

“I see in this league guys like to sit, they don’t come up. So I am going to adjust to it.”

What Irving meant was that in college, defenders are running full blast at a ballcarrier. In the NFL, he said, the defenders are slightly more cautious as to not overrun the play.

“It probably won’t happen again,” Irving vowed.

So what is the trick for him attacking the holes up from with aggression? Irving said he knows in the NFL a running back must be aggressive.

“I see at this level that you have no time to pitty-patty,” Irving said. “I trust my eyes. When I see the hole I hit the hole.”

    HMMMM…

  2. SlyPirate Says:

Did he remind anyone else of a former Bucs RB on that play?

That looked so much like WD to me.

  3. Buc off Says:

That was an enormous hole, not sure we created one that big all last season. My grandma couldā€™ve ran it 20 yards there Buc Nutty

  4. BucU Says:

    Somebody better tell RW that.

  5. NJbucs23 Says:

Kids got star written all over him. It was great to hear the Bucky chant in person.

He will be our lead back by the bye

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Bucky looked good as a change of pace back – but also benefited by getting some runs with zero defenders around him. When he was being hit in the backfield like White was on nearly all his runs, Bucky was losing yards, just like White.

    But, so far, so good.

Keep this up I can see a lucrative endorsement deal with a certain convenience store that has a cult-like following

Some of you guys (mainly Joe) have become like Trask disciples…but for Bucky.

    Sad šŸ˜¢

Loving it all. Good for Bucky! Well deserved. White was working hard too.

Drunk Bucs Fan – I am right with you on that “Buh-kee” endorsement. And they are around 50 to 80 thousand square feet with 100 gas pumps. Yes, I am one of those cult followers when driving out of state to visit family. We need one here.

  11. Henry Says:

Hey Jude, there are soon to be 4 buccees in Florida the newest and or closet one to Tampa is opening soon in Ocala.

  12. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I told you guys. Watch out for Bucky!

  13. Henry Says:

The others are in St Augustine, Daytona and one planned for Ft Pierce I believe.

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

“you have no time to pitty-patty”, maybe a new nickname for R-White?

  15. Leighroy Says:

I think it was this play… Whirfs got beat badly on a play by Jamin Davis and Bucky was dropped for -4. They showed the replay on TV, and I’m sorry Bucky but Barry Sanders himself wasn’t going to escape that TFL. I remember being shocked that Whirfs was the one who got beat so badly. I think it was his one and only bad play of the game.

If this is what has Bucky bent out of shape, I mean love the attitude, but come on man you can’t be perfect in the NFL especially as a rookie!

SlyPirateā€¦ yes, The Ghost of Warrick Dunn. Big shoes, kid. Good start.

I’m sure White was crying on the inside when he heard all those chants too. GoneGator don’t let it blister and chaffe your poor lil sensitive Bakerboi loving tail because they will all turn on him like they did Doug Martin if he messes up bad enough.

Thx for the concern bro – lol. I’ll admit to getting a little frustrated at some of the commenters, and Joe, from time to time BUT I feel pretty good about my assessments of the team and specifically Baker and Rachaad.

You/we should worry about how the Baker haters (or the he’s mid crowd) and Rachaad critics are going to come up with excuses for their ignorant takes as the season goes on.

ā€œI see at this level that you have no time to pitty-patty,ā€ Irving said. ā€œI trust my eyes. When I see the hole I hit the hole.ā€

Rachaad reverted to his pitty-patty again during Sunday’s game me thinks. The dude runs scared and refuses to just consistantly hit the LOS. And yeah he can catch…from what I have seen so can Buh-kee!

I guess it’s time to jump on Joe’s bandwagon and admit that Rachaad is not an NFL running back. Much as I hate that…LOL

    Go Bucs!

  22. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

Yeah I like the way Bucky Irving hits the hole for sure!! That’s something White should start doing, if you waste time back there they’ll be in the backfield with you. We’re going to be needing the offense to put them points up with half of our defense broke man. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
