Betting The Bucs (Week 2 Edition)

September 15th, 2024

It’s a new feature here from Joe that won’t be just a here’s-a-pick, get-your-best-bet thing.

Sports betting is legal in Florida but there’s only one government-regulated Florida sportsbook run by the Seminole tribe (not to be confused with the PFF Tribe).

Joe will highlight Bucs-related lines each week in this space and how Joe is — and is not — throwing money around.

**Agonizing week for Joe against the Lions. Lot of unpredictability and variables with the Luke Goedeke injury for the Bucs at right tackle, and Joe is very suspect of how the Bucs’ run defense will stand up over 60 minutes with Calijah Kancey out and Logan Hall (foot) and Will Gholston dealing with injuries. Vita Vea is a beast who can single-handedly wreck a run game, but how many snaps will he play? He was a shade under 60 percent last week.

**Trey Palmer over 1.5 catches +170

So can Trey Palmer haul in two catches? Well, he did against the Lions in both games last season. His “over” line is 1.5 and the payout is $27.00 on a $10 wager. Joe sees the Bucs going out of their way to put the ball in Palmer’s hands a few times, especially on turf, where his speed is magnified. And a very easy throw-and-catch or two (wide receiver screen or a sweep pass off motion) to Palmer seems likely, in addition to whatever shots he might get downfield. Joe likes the value at +170, almost enough to call this a ♦♦♦ but Joe’s going to stick with ♦♦.

**Chris Godwin over 64.5 yards +100

Aside from Godwin looking fantastic since reporting in April — every single day — the Lions have a questionable secondary and Joe has no doubt its focus will be on Mike Evans. Similar to Palmer, Joe also thinks a wide receiver screen or two will be in Godwin’s near future. If you’re in Joe’s camp and think the Bucs will be playing catch-up at some point today, then fourth-quarter chunk yards are more likely than not. Even money return makes this a ♦♦ pick for Joe

So, now you know where Joe is throwing a little cash. So many other pregame wagers on the board are tempting. But Joe prefers logic over temptation when it comes to the gameday wallet.

Here was Joe’s Week 1 look that focused on futures.

Nice new feature! I like it.

  2. Bucsalltheway Says:

I been doing this for a while…smart bet for the day take Richaad white for rec prop 26.5 yards and at least 5 rec out the backfield but I believe the anytime td will go to bucky this week. Take godwin and Evans for 40+ yards rec

  3. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The Panthers brought up Feleipe Franks from the practice squad today. Trask to the Stupid is really feeling conflicted today.

  4. Eckwood Says:

    Franks , TE ?

  5. Farmer Says:

I’ve got a bet builder of:

    Evans 2TD’s
    Evans 75+yrds
    Godwin 75+yrds
    Mayfield 300+yrds

    Pays out 35x

It’s going to be a shoot out, i expect Goff to feast on our injured backfield and Mayfield to repay in kind.

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

Good wagers Joe, hope you cash in! I like your honesty about just putting your wagers out there unlike other sites (with the initials PR) where guys will claim that they nailed such and such a pick (after the fact and leaving out that they missed 5 other wagers, kind of like they have claimed they nailed the Bucs’ draft the last few years). Go Bucs!

  7. Derrick Says:

Damn, the Seminole app only has Palmer over .5 catches, with $10 bet paying out $14. If you can find the line Joe found, that would bettee.

  8. Lakeland Says:

I’m taking Jalen McMillan over 80 yards receiving, and a TD.

  9. Tye Says:

Watching Gruden break down the Lions/Bucs matchup today….
    Entertaining!

  10. HippieFreak Says:

Hard Rock had the Bucs at +7.5 for days. For a short time this morning it was a +10! I went back in to bet that 10, but it had already dropped back to 7.5.

  11. Dave Pear Says:

If the Bucs come out guns blazing, which they should, I like Farmer’s parlay. For it to succeed, Bucs will need to help Drule a lot at RT. If a real TE can be that helper instead of a 6th OL, then the TE can also catch a few checkdowns after chipping at snap.

  12. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Goff has a 383 YPG v Bucs.

  13. Buchen61 Says:

    “Goff has a 383 YPG v Bucs.”

Yeah and 5 interceptions in 3 games
