Bad News On Calijah Kancey And Logan Hall

September 8th, 2024

Calijah Kancey did not play today and don’t expect him next Sunday.

Joe hates to pop the balloon on a fantastic Bucs victory today, 37-20 over the Commandos, but news is news and it must be shared.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht joined the Buccaneers Radio Network before the game and said referred to recent injuries to defensive linemen Calijah Kancey and Logan Hall.

Kancey hurt his calf Friday in practice and was scratched from today’s game. Hall has a foot injury that seemed to come out of nowhere. He landed on the injured list Wednesday and did not practice last week.

“Yeah, we had some unfortunate, just freaky almost non-contact injuries that we’re going to be dealing with for a few weeks,” Licht said, noting his backup defensive tackles C.J. Brewer, Mike Greene and newcomer Ben Stille (signed last week) would have to step up.

Licht did not mention Hall and Kancey by name, but the implication was obvious.

So it sure sounds like both D-line starters will be on the shelf next week in Detroit. Kancey is a huge loss.

After today’s game, head coach/defensive coordinator Todd Bowles praised Greene and Brewer for stepping up with little experience this season. Veterans Will Gholston and Greg Gaines played a lot in the absences of Kancey and Hall.

    Ourn new offense will help.

  2. Jerseybuc Says:

Kancey is a really big loss against top tier teams. Go get reddick

  3. Lakeland Says:

Maybe Anthony Nelson can get some snaps at DE.

    SPEAKING OF DEFENSE…

Did Jamel Dean even play in the game today? I don’t recall hearing his name? Seriously.

  5. StormyInFl Says:

It’s now fair to say Kancey is injury prone and fragile. Licht is gonna have to find a pass rush somewhere else.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

    Need Kancey out there.

And need to get Britt off the field, permanently. Can’t overstate how bad he was today.

  7. KABucs Says:

Dean was busy making McLaurin fully disappear.

  8. Bojim Says:

The defense is already injured. Week one. Yikes!

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Dennis ended up being 7 tackles and a sack, and it sure seemed like he played a lot less snaps than Britt.

If Dennis can stay healthy, he might end up being the answer at the other MLB spot.

and yaya didn’t get his name on the stat sheet

  11. firethecannons Says:

Sirvocea Dennis played well when he was in, I think he had a penalty but still–it was like his first game–last year he was hurt. I even saw Tryon Shoyinka got a sack.

  12. David Kilmer Says:

Hey Joe, calf injury typically take awhile to heal. I was afraid when I heard that.
Guess would be 4 weeks cause if you dont let it heal completely, it will just come back.
yes unfortunate news, even worse the cb McColum, really thin there, and Detroit next week, wow

  13. adam from ny Says:

secondary is also somewhat in shambles now…so early on…like a couple years back…

good solid win, but against a team that honestly looks like a 5-6 win ball club…

offense looks darn good for a week one performance
(week one is kinda like an extension of preseason, but it counts)…

    bucky looks really good

  14. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Britt was terrible today. Dennis was much better. Put him on the field.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our offense will have to carry us..,

  16. firethecannons Says:

Sorry Todd Bowles is close lipped about specific injuries, it helps to have an idea what we are up against

  17. Pewter Power Says:

The defense isn’t carrying us against the top teams. You guys don’t want to say it but the quarterback is going to have to put up real numbers and get us in the endzone. This where baker has to earn his paycheck like week 2

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs defense will be fine. The offense will be great when they stop handing the ball to Rachaad and keep feeding Bucky.

Bucky had 6.89 yards per carry/ Rachaad had 2.05 yards.

Rachaad White is a slot receiver and not a running back. Bucky is the future.

    =============

Yeah, I just worry that Dennis was only out there because the Bucs got a lead – and we’re going to see more of Britt out there doing his best Ryan Neal impression, personally giving up huge plays leading to easy TDs.

  20. Larrd Says:

Baker is league MVP so far!

  21. A Bucs Fan Says:

Antoine Winfield has a boot on his foot in the locker room…. that is bad.

  22. Elder Pirate Says:

Im guessing Bryce is going on IR as well. Wouldnt mind seeing Isaac back, we certainly need the help.

  23. Paratrooper Buc Says:

    Kancey and Hall out.

    Zyon with concussion.

Winfield with a boot on his leg.

    Defense dropping like flies.

  24. Buc2Blame Says:

Sad cause Cancey was promising but seems he’ll be derailed by being injury prone

  25. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Trask to the Future: Dean was busy shutting down their #1 receiver, don’t worry about it.

  26. Bucsfan81 Says:

Well the offense might have to put up 50 a game because this defense is basically handicapped at this point. First game of the season and half the defense is injured.

As if we needed further proof that you’re clueless about football…

Ever heard of a WR named Terry McLaurin? Dean was on him all game until the 4th quarter. Go check his stats today and then get back to us with your question.

  28. Bucamania Says:

Damn was hoping Kancey was a one week thing.

  29. Bucs life Says:

All these people saying Kancey is injury prone ? He missed 3 games last year and 1 so far this year . Pump the brakes that’s about average for a starter . Vita missed 5 games over the last two seasons and a lot more over his first few seasons . A lot of this ish is just luck . Diaby would have missed 2-3 games had his injury came when Kanceys did instead of at the beginning of the preseason . Go Bucs!

  30. David Says:

TRASK… The answer is yes. He pretty much shut down his man the whole game. When a CB plays great, other than INT, you don’t hear his name because his receivers aren’t making catches or plays on him

  31. David Says:

I am really looking forward to seeing KANCEY play this year, this sucks

    Exactly!!!

  33. heyjude Says:

I was another one that thought Kancey could be back against the Lions, now unsure. Still hoping though. He was missed yesterday.

Overall great game! Bowles and the rest will figure it out before next week. Keeping the momentum going!

  34. BucU Says:

    Kancey = INJURY PRONE. F A C T. Live with it.

  35. Ed Says:

Yes the defense is crippled going to Detroit but the offense is healthy. Detroit had to gut it out with the OT win vs Rams. Playing a late game and playing OT while the Bucs coasted does give the Bucs some advantage as they will be better rested but that isn’t going to be a major issue.

Goff looked rusty but the Lions ran the ball down the Rams throat. Hoping these replacements on D line can play the run.

The Bucs passing game with McMillan’s addition is going to be difficult for defenses to match up with. White is dangerous after the catch. Bucky is the long term solution running the ball. The Bucs should add another wrinkle and put White in motion so he can be another target in the passing game and have Bucky in the game at same time.

  36. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs Defense has been carrying the load for years. Long past time the Offense and Special Teams returned the favor. If we’re gonna get bit by Buc Luck (injuries), let it be now, and not at the end of the season. Lions in Motown will be a YUGE test. They aren’t the kitties anymore.

  37. BucU Says:

Kancey is turning into a bum. He’ll be out for weeks again just like last year.

Zyon Missed 4 games his rookie season and now he’s got a concussion is he also injury prone ?
Lavonte David missed 5 games in 21’ and 2 games in 23’. It’s football , most defenders miss a few games a year , get over it . Now if he comes back in a week or two and then misses 6-8 games that’s a different story . Missing 2-3 games a year isn’t “ injury prone “ as most of our defense misses time at some point

  39. Suggiefresh Says:

Kancey’s calf is and will be a huge issue. Can’t stay on the field. Sounds like he won’t be rhe standout we were hoping for. Played first game last year out 3-4 games. Not top tier if you aren’t on the field.

  40. captivajim Says:

missing Hall is—- NO Loss at all

  41. TampabayDJ Says:

Dean shut down Terry McLaren the ENTIRE game ! Probably one of Dean’s best games ever

  42. TampabayDJ Says:

This is what teams go through every year. Better now than later in the year before the playoffs. After the Lions , we get Denver. So if he’s out 2 weeks , then we can get through it. Bandwagon fans 🙄

  43. Britt Says:

Honestly surprised Dean and Vita are still healthy, but otherwise we are right on track. Our DTs and CBs are all injured the first week of the season and all expected to miss significant time. Yeah!
