Awful Injury News For Bucs

September 28th, 2024

Out.

The Bucs updated their injury report for Sunday’s game with the Eagles. And it is terrible.

Right tackle Luke Goedeke failed to clear concussion protocol despite practicing this week. He will not play.

We all know how this offensive line has become an unpredictable, unforeseen sieve without him. And the Eagles are a physical team with a physical defensive front.

This is not good, especially not good for Goedeke that he has now missed three games with a concussion (which makes one wonder what his football future is). And it’s terrible news for the Bucs as that means swinging saloon door Justin Skule will likely start at right tackle.

Additionally, Rachaad White has been added to the injury report as questionable with an illness.

On the Eagles side of the ball, DeVonta Smith (concussion) is out and fellow star receiver A.J. Brown is out for Philadelphia, per Zach Berman of The Athletic.

Now I’m switching fantasy QB from Baker back to Hurts

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

Yeah when I saw he was limited on Friday after being full on Thursday I knew this was going to happen. The best thing for Luke’s actual health is to put him on IR now.

  3. Rayjay1122 Says:

    2-2

  4. LakelandBuc Says:

One player don’t make or break a team. I’m still picking the Bucs to win. We beat Detroit without him, everything is good!!

  5. Leopold Stotch Says:

We’re doomed. I mean I get the offense struggling against Detroit. Denver? No reason why it should have been that bad. I’m starting to lose hope. While I disagree with Joe about Reddick joining the squad (culture fit) we need some sort of boost on the defense for sure since Vea and Kancey are hurt and the youngins aren’t producing.

  6. BillyBucco Says:

So how does Lane Johnson pass concussion protocol? Skule should be getting better every week at least. Better and bigger news for the defense is Smith and Brown both out. We couldn’t catch them at a better time with our own injuries.

  7. WiscoJoe Says:

Will you guys stop talking about how healthy th

  8. WiscoJoe Says:

The team is when they’re healthy?*

  9. Permanently Moderated Says:

Good thing Baker has good medical insurance.

  10. Gofortheface30 Says:

Really really wished I didn’t hate soccer so much. No commercial breaks during play, there’s always movement, there are rarely any injuries, especially with star players that people pay to see. Football – commercial breaks after damn near every drive, penalties, injuries, people missing 20% of the season being stuck in “protocol.” The quality of the product = not great. The fans love their Sundays because it’s become rooted in Americana, it’s become a ritual, and people love to bet on it more than any other sport. Those are what is sustaining the league. All we talk about half the time are injury updates any more. Someone please advise why that is fun? It isn’t.

  11. Lt. Dan Says:

If “glorified third down back” Rachaad White sits, so what. Tucker time!

  12. LakelandBuc Says:

Ali Marpet missed 3 games because of his concussion. This is Luke 3rd missed game. He may retire like Marpet, we never know.

    Head injuries are serious

I really felt sorry for Mike Williams and VJax

  13. infomeplease Says:

It’s going to be a sad Sunday.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

Tie up your excuses and go out there and win. Jason licht was being called a hero this offseason for hitting in the draft but has no depth, cross train everyone and still have no depth. How did this draft guru cut Brandon Walton over skule. He was garbage but night and day better than skule.

  15. A Bucs Fan Says:

Seems Camarda is being benched for the new practice squad kicker, what happened to that guy?

  16. Lt. Dan Says:

Did Lane Johnson clear concussion protocol?

  17. Cobraboy Says:

When did he get the concussion? A particular play? Practice?

Couple more tidbits for the Eagles..

DEVIN WHITE IS ALSO OUT 😂😂😂…

Eagles are bringing up John Ross from practice squad.
Remember that guy? Ran 4.22 40-yard dash at the combine a few years ago…Hmmmmm??

And there is NO update yet on whether Lane Johnson passed concussion test that I have found online…..
Why have Eagles not released this yet?

  19. Todd Says:

Sing with me now, “Sunday, Bloody Sunday…”

  20. Bucfan1988 Says:

Pewter Power, Brandon Walton played like pure a$$ garbage in pre-season.
Both of the back-up swing tackles suck…

  21. Gipper Says:

Going to have to go with two tight end sets with Payne Durham helping Skule. Not sure why Coen reluctant to use this power package? It is essential to keep defensive end pressure off Mayfield so he can get the ball off quickly to ME and Godwin. Have seen enough of Skule getting consistently beat on the outside. A double team strategy works against the best DE’s like Myles Garrett.

DEVIN WHITE IS ALSO OUT 😂😂😂…

    ———

It’s remarkable the people who just hate on White, as if he wasn’t one of the key reason the Bucs won the SB.

Also did you watch the game last week, with that slow footed Britt getting beaten to the edge on 4th and goal – a play White would have made 100 out of 100 times. Literally turned the game into a playoff.

Anyone with an IQ over 12 knew that Britt was too slow to play, yet he’s still out there giving up huge plays like the second coming of Ryan Neal – meanwhile dopes here on this site as mocking White.

If the Bucs had any sense they’d trade for White, and cut Britt.

  24. Bucfan1988 Says:

Munch, Devin White’s attitude is obviously a CANCER to locker rooms.

If the Eagles aren’t playing him, he must really be bad.

You forgetting that Britt TOOK OVER for Devin White last year.
Yeah Devin is fast but that’s it. Sucked at tackling, can’t get off blocks, and was taking horrible angles to the defender. Also his pass coverage was MEH….

Certainly we do NOT need White.
We just need Sir Dennis to start for Britt.
    Need to make that change.

So winning a SB is cancer?

I’ll take it over loser ‘good’ guys who can’t play and gives up points because he’s too slow to be in the NFL.

  26. Bojim Says:

    Give Dennis more snaps.

  27. Saskbucs Says:

What the hell are these guys doing in practices this year? This was a practice concussion no? Or end of week 1 vs Wash?

3 weeks!? I need to see video of this. Kancey down in Friday practice, McMillan down in Friday practice. Irving in practice … I’m about to fully board the “soft camp and practices are ruining football “ train.

Goedeke back and Johnson out… I was prepared to be on the Bucs. Now, I just don’t know how to feel. I can tell you this… if Mauch and Skule suck again… it better be Klein time. Guy actually showed promise. Not that Mauch hasn’t at times but dear lord was he bad last week.

  28. mj Says:

nfl parody league, who knows? 9-8 will make the playoffs 2-2 could be worse

  29. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, for those that care, I just went back and watched the ALL22 from last week to see all the Bronco stats… what a disaster.

First off, three of seven sacks were 100% on Baker, either holding the ball too long or thinking he’s Michael Vick.

As for Sucke, he gave up at least 2 sacks – although he as involved with many more. He’s literally terrible, that’s 6 sacks he’s given up in 2 games – and that’s being kind, technically you could give him at least one more sack.

While the line was an issue, Baker was worse rewatching it than what I saw live. He had outlets and was just holding the ball – and worse, like stated, he thought he could run and was literally getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage. Not bashing Baker with this comment, but I think he’s faster on turf, because on grass he looks so sluggish when he tries to run. Just something to note and keep an eye on going forward. It’s really remarkable he looked fine running in Detroit yet looked so slow vs the Broncos.

BTW, by my count, Cody cleanly gave up a sack, three on Baker, two on Sucke, and the 7th was a true team cluster where seemingly the entire line got beat at the same time. Also I didn’t notice it during the game, or forgot about it, but Wirfs really looked like he was playing hurt. Is he fully healthy? He got power moved back on a play, something I’ve never seen him give up before, and his legs looked very stiff, like he was having a hard time moving.

In any case, if the Eagles have any intelligence at all, they’re going to pick on Sucke and Cody – no idea why anyone wouldn’t blitz three guys over those two all game, they’d get to the QB every time.

Coppertop needs to have a gameplan ready for this and to get the ball out quickly and not let Baker go into a shell. But really, when you have a non-existent RT, who is less effective blocking than a lawn chair, you can try keeping a TE and/or RB in on every play, but it really limits your playbook.

Hopefully Sucke proves me wrong tomorrow – but come on. I’ve seen his tape, he didn’t even block guys in the preseason, and looks lost and helpless out there. He has to be the worst player in the NFL right now, I’ve literally never seen an offensive lineman as bad as he is. Just watch play after play, he gets beat on power and quickness, guys do simple spin moves and fly right past him, he should not be on an NFL roster.

  30. richbucsfan Says:

At 4PM tomorrow Bucs are 2-2

  31. Beeej Says:

Two games ina row they can’t figure out how to keep Baker upright, and the Eagles D line is superior to the prior two

  32. Bucfan1988 Says:

Munch, of course we wouldn’t have won the Super Bowl without what White did.

The problem was he lost his drive or something and started reading his press clippings too much. Dude was NOT a team player at all.

The next 2 years he got worse & worse as a player.

He just thought Bucs brass were gonna hand him over $100 milly contract based on that sole year alone.

He didn’t deserve it and I’m so glad we got rid of him.
His attitude was poor and he didn’t play for his teammates after that.
He was a shell of himself from the Super Bowl run.

    Sorry man 🤷🏻‍♂️

  33. Hodad Says:

Insert Klien at guard, move Mauch outside. Maybe Mauch makes a better RT, he’s not an NFL guard.

  34. teacherman Says:

Give Klein a chance at RG.

Mauch was a LT and a TE. He’s very athletic.

    Let him try RT.

    Brederson blows by the way.

Need another guard/tackle in the 2nd next year.

  35. TampabayDJ Says:

Why not put Rob Hainsey back at his original spot as right guard ?

  36. TampabayDJ Says:

Looks like we have a few fake bandwagon fans on here today , with Beeej and Todd leading the way ! You guys jump on and off more than a hookr in a hotel. Go root for the Eagles, or the AINTS ! Probably the same fans who sell their tickets to opposing fans…

  37. Jack Burton Mercert Says:

Pretty clear now that Mauch was a baaad pick. Barton will probably be good to very good but he is still a rookie. Regardless of what Jose says, Goedeke is not a pro bowler, or all that close, but is capable of being a solid RT. What all this shows is that Licht needs to stop outsmarting himself with these small school linemen and stick to big school, preferably SEC, guys. If that is not obvious then Licht needs to be managed by someone.

  38. Bucsfan81 Says:

Not that it helps now but we better start drafting offensive linemen because it’s a serious need in this team.

  39. Jack Burton Mercert Says:

White was great in the SB run and has sucked since. He had to go. Simple as that.

  40. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Where does one find the all 22?

  41. BucU Says:

Lol this team is laughable and after last week unwatchable. Just forfeit and save another half dozen injuries.

  42. Tony Says:

Yeah sometimes I wonder if all of them really do care about the team & then being successful.

  44. Drunkinybor Says:

Devin went to Philly to showcase his skills and show the world he’s the man. He said he even took less money 🙄 Can we get Dennis more snaps please. Britt has a big mouth but missing that tackle on a 4th down run that turned into a touchdown has made me lose respect for him as a player. Nelson did a horrible job also.

  45. Rod Munch Says:

I went back through the ALL22 and watched every single pass play on the day, was at first interested to see if Evans just got shutdown or not – but was interesting to just watch every attempt.

    Observations.

Worries about Wirfs above was unfounded. He had by my count 3 plays that were unlike him, including the one where his legs looked stiff, like something was wrong with him. Must have just been that one play, because he was fine otherwise. He got beat one time by a speed move and got beat but no sack, and another play where he gave up more pressure than I’d like. But the defensive players get paid too, but Wirfs mostly looked very solid.

There are still mistakes with who the offensive line is supposed to pickups on blitzes and stunts. It’s a new offense and it still shows.

Sucke is terrible. Nearly every time they rushed him, he got beat. Shockingly, they were not rushing over him on every play. No idea why they wouldn’t put someone over him on every play. Speed, power, spins, don’t matter, Sucke can’t stop it. Get that guy off the team.

Cody was beat twice from my count, gave up some pressures, but wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought he was originally.

Overall, the offensive line play was better than I thought it was watching it live. Not good, but not the dumpster fire I thought it was.

Meanwhile, Baker was WAY worse than I thought watching it live. He had guys open for big plays a number of times, when he had plenty of time, and just checked down the ball or took off running even though he didn’t need to. He had a 10.4 QBR which is incredibly awful – and I was wondering why it was so low, I knew it was a bad game but I didn’t think it was that bad. Well, I stand corrected, he was that bad. A number of times he had Evans wide open and just flat out didn’t throw the ball. Terrible game, and it’s not all on the offensive line.

Evans, meanwhile, looked fine. I thought perhaps Surtain was all over him and that’s why Baker was taking easier throws – but nope, the Broncos played mostly zone, a ton of quarters it looked like to me, and when they did go to man, Mike was open most of the time. Some of the plays were just not having enough time for the play to develop and the quarters defense, but a handful of times, Mike was there and Baker just flat out didn’t throw the ball.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Bucfan1988 – I agree on not giving White that big money, not with Bowles making him stand around in zone most of the time instead of using him in a way that works. Still, that’s why trading for him would make a ton of sense, he’s not making big money and it’s a one year deal.

Dennis has played well, but you need more than a 2 man rotation at MLB when you play 2 of them. Look, I know it won’t happen, if Licht traded a conditional 7th in 2028 for White, it would be admitting he messed up. Except it isn’t doing that at all, its helping the team and getting a guy on a cheap deal.

What I know for certain is Britt needs to hit the unemployment line. He gave up a bunch of big plays (with an s, as in many) in week 1, and a huge TD on 4th down this past week. He’s too slow to play in the NFL, and his one saving grace is supposed to be as a run stopper, except if the person is doing anything other than running directly at him in a straight line, he stinks at that too.

  47. Simeon4HOF Says:

What the hell happened to him .. not a good sign. Here we go again gonna be ugly again upfromt Sunday

  48. Tony Says:

Sometimes I wonder what these front offices scouts & coaches see in these players when they draft them. Especially them. Especially when they’re constantly getting called for penalties, etc.

@rod so you’re saying Baker shaved points?

    ————-

No, he was just bad, rattled from an early INT.

It was the same Baker I saw when watching his tape from Carolina, where he’d have guys wide open down the field, and had time to throw the ball, and instead would just check it down.

When he loses confidence early in a game, it’s all over.

Hopefully he snaps out of it since he had a great week 1, and while his stats in week 2 weren’t great, I thought he played well considering how bad Sucke was. But against the Broncos, Baker was terrible. Which has been the issue with him, consistency.

  51. Bucfan1988 Says:

Munch, agree that Britt isn’t a starting ILB. He’s an OK backup…
    His speed really hurts us.
Last game he missed a run for because he was toooooo slowwwwwww getting there.

That play and the screwup with Nelson on that 4th & goal that Denver RB converted when Nelly messed up and didn’t contain the outside to force the rb back inside towards the defense. Yeah, Dennis would have caught that RB.
That was a momentum changing play…

We may have to wait til next year to address this….

I think this is LD54’s final year.
He doesn’t look like himself so far this year.

  52. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Rod I hope so too..otherwise he’s nothing more than a vet bridge QB.

  53. NCBuc Says:

Beeej is one of the famous Baker Bois! Has every excuse laid out for his idle! It’s all good though. Been much less quiet the past couple of weeks since Baker has yet to be shown that he’s the superstar we all desire and need…..

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … Some interesting observations, especially about Mauch & Skule. On the bench we’ve got Hainsey, Klein & Newman as Guards, but the only Tackle we show to come off the bench is Skule.

Newman actually started 16 games for the Packers in 2021 (when they went 13-4), but only started 8 games for them since. Weird because he doesn’t show up on the injury lists in any of those seasons, and suited up for all 17 games each year. I guess that he just lost his starting spot & couldn’t regain it. He MIGHT be a possible sub for either Mauch or Bredeson, although this is still a bit early in the season to panic.

  55. Bucschamp Says:

How long does one usually recover from football concussion? I thought he was good to go?

  56. Dave Pear Says:

Has Todd cleared concussion protocol yet?

  57. Hearty Dikerson Says:

How tf can we draft nothing but tackles to play offensive line, yet when we desperately need a tackle in a pinch, Skule is the only option off the bench? Makes no sense.

  58. Dave Pear Says:

It’s great that Todd the head coich has made no moves, nor told Jason to do something, to replace Skule the drooler. Truly a one legged fat [That’s a little much, don’t you think? — Joe] guy living under a bridge wouldn’t be worse,

  59. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Call me crazy its just an idea. Maybe move Wirts back to the right side and play the backup Ledt tackle in his place. What do we have to lose. Jeez

  60. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

    @Rod Munch,

Thank you for sharing your observations after watching the ALL22.

Several things you mentioned were concerning but none greater than how Baker played.

Evans is going to get frustrated if this keeps up if he isn’t already. That’s got to be maddening for him, getting open successfully and Baker not seeing him.

  61. Oddball Says:

I’m invoking the George Costanza rule here.

90+% of you voted Bucs win last week.

Seems like 90% at least think we loose this week based on all the whinging here

Therefore based on the GC rule: Bucs win this week.

  62. adam from ny Says:

i’ve heard thru the grapevine they are shopping white…looking to hopefully trade him as a team gets desperate due to an injury or something…

and i thought for a moment………a moment……….we just might have the next lawrence taylor…go figure

  63. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I actually missed all but the last 2 minutes last week. I got to working and before I knew it, time had flown by. When I finally remembered, I had the option to hit startover….but upon seeing the score…naw…why put myself thru that?

As to the offensive line, we all knew it would take time to gel. The last good OL actually took more than a year to do so. I was hoping for 3-5 games this time around…doesn’t look like we’ll be that lucky.

Still…I’m not ready to start thinking about the draft. e could still get a wildcard…or even win the division…if the Saints stop killing opponents.

  64. Joe Says:

i’ve heard thru the grapevine they are shopping white…looking to hopefully trade him as a team gets desperate due to an injury or something…

You probably “heard” that while reading this here site earlier this month. 🙂

  65. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Honestly though. They haven’t even schemed some help for right side of the line. You have Mauch struggling. So he isn’t able to help Skule. Add to that Skule’s deficiencies and it’s a recipe for disaster. We have good blocking tightends why not use them to help out Skule. Which will also help Mauch. Also one more ranting soap box point I wanna make for those ragging on Mauch. That dude has had a tough go of it and I don’t find him completely responsible. As a rookie he played next to a below average backup center. On a patchwork offensive line. Now he has a rookie center and a below average backup right tackle on his side of the line. I can’t help but wonder how much other players deficiencies are effecting his ability to play his best football. How much does subpar play along side him effect his game. Please take that into consideration before ragging on Mauch.

  66. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

I’ve been saying this whole time that I have doubts that Goedeke will ever play again.

For big monster dude life him to have this serious of a brain injury for it to be lingering like this is a terrible sign that he might not ever fully recover enough to take more blows to the head on a weekly basis.

He should that helmet company he wears, and thankfully he’s the only one on the team that wore that piece of crap, but man our season is doomed to failure without him in the lineup.

  67. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

He should *sue that helmet company, as he’s the only one on the team wearing that brand of helmet. Terrible decision, obviously

yes joe you are probably right…

also i think i heard whispers early this week somewhere…like most likely on youtube…mentioning they’re actively shopping the dude or something…who knows – just glad he’s no longer a bucs problem…from the looks of this thread we are already dealing with enough in bucs-land, and it’s only week 4

  70. adam from ny Says:

i’m a britt supporter, but opposing teams just need to get him in lateral, horizontal or sideline to sideline type schemes and he’s chop liver…

as a vertical guy, or thumper in the run he’s good…the dude is strong and chiseled…but get him moving laterally and you have him beat…

teams know already and it might only get worse as the season wears on …

seems to be a great team guy, but in essence, he talks fast and moves slow – exposure will happen in a long season…

luckily dennis seems like a quick moving dude

  71. adam from ny Says:

why are people saying goedeke has been wearing a one off bootleg type helmet that no one else wears…???

can this really be true…it’s wild stuff !

  72. Capt.Tim Says:

    “Unforeseen”??

    Perhaps by some.
Many knew this line would ruin the offense, and end our season,
    Since February.

And they’ve frequently posted it right here.

Funny to watch, once again, the running backs and the Quarterback get blamed for a problem the smart fans (majority) identified the problem before the first football was snapped This spring.

Now its just funny. Might as well laugh. Crying wont help.
This season will be another lost season- Because Jason Licht refused to adequately address the offensive line or the pass rush.

I hope Baker Mayfield gets thru the game tomorrow. But with the hits hes taking, Its just a matter of time
When you put Bredesen and Mauch out their to protect your WB. You just dont care about his health.
Now add a Rookie- and it looks deliberate

  73. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    Adam from NY,

I say that about Goedeke’s helmet bcuz I saw this youtube short about it.

Eery to see now that he has this lingering brain injury.

  74. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    Adam from NY,

Joe won’t allow the video link, so search ‘Goedeke’ on youtube and scroll down to the Short talking about ‘why no guardian cap’ and he explains it.

    Creepy video in hindsight now.

  75. Dave Pear Says:

This is gross negligence on the parts of Todd and Jason. The guys in charge could do something about Skule the drooler. Obviously he can’t be coached up, they would have already tried that. Wait………never mind.

Maybe the strategy is, hope everyone on the Eagles DL is injured on the wet field in warmups and they get the Eaglettes to fill in —. or whatever their emotional support group are called.

  76. adam from ny Says:

    @Erik: ^^^

    ok i’ll dig 4 it…….thanks!

  77. Zoocomics Says:

No kidding… it’s time to brace that Goedeke might have played his last snap. This is incredibly unusual, mid-week fall-out, 3 weeks later!?… AND YET there is no one in the ENTIRE league our scouts can’t find that’s better than Skule? Late round draft pick trade? I get he’s not the entire problem of the Oline, but if ANY of that Oline, Mauch, is overcompensating because Skule is such a liability, we have to find someone better. Ironically, JBF talks about our season being over if we lose Baker, and we have to roll with Trask. I say nay, our season is over if we can’t get this Oline fixed.

  78. Bucsalltheway Says:

    @rod munch
Trading back for white would make us a laughing stock now if we pulled a zeke and bring him back in the off-season that’s different. But I think it came down to value with white good pass rusher horrible in coverage.

  79. Dave Pear Says:

Diva can’t even be a backup on the Eagles. Inactive today. That has to frost his eggs. Obvious mental health issues with him. Too bad.
