“At Some Point In Your Life You’re Tired Of Being Last”
September 4th, 2024For seven consecutive seasons (2013-2019), Team Glazer and Bucs fans suffered through their beloved team opening every year with a 3-5 record or worse.
What a painful stretch of Joe’s life.
Over and over the glorious hope that a new football season brings got kicked in the groin by Halloween. A week or two later, it was NFL Draft talk, mental health counseling and ridicule in the Winn-Dixie aisles for those wearing a Bucs t-shirt.
Those dark times ended, but a whiff of loserville still lingers at One Buc Palace. And it comes from the Bucs’ rushing attack. Baker Mayfield even went on a widly popular show in July and said, “We were so bad running the ball last year.”
Today at One Buc Palace, Rachaad White said the Bucs have changed their mindset a bit and it will drive an improved running game.
What’s the core of the motivation, Rachaad?
“At some point in your life you’re tired of being last,” White said.
It was a sobering take from the guy in the center of Tampa Bay’s back-to-back years of league-worst rushing.
“We need to be able to run the ball this year effectively and we’re going to,” said White, repeating a guarantee he’s made this offseason.
Though Roger Goodell has other ideas, football is still about blocking and tackling, thankfully. And White seems to be clear on that.
Asked to define the new rushing mindset, White kept it real.
“Hit anything moving,” he said.

Can someone tell Rachaad he’s supposed to avoid everything moving. Thanks.

We’ll see the best out of White this year

I predict White is replaced by Bucky by the bye week.

More run, less talk.

[Not sure what this has to do with the Bucs’ run game. — Joe]

When are you going to stop saying that White was the center of the rushing attack the past two years? Last year was his first year as RB1, the year before that it was “playoff Lenny” who struggled greatly as well behind that horrible IOL. The offense begins and ends with the OLine that’s what so many fail to realize. While White didn’t have a great avg last year he still was able to make something out of nothing nearly breaking 1k yards, which is hard to do when you’re running into a wall every play. There were no holes on the inside despite your insistence that there were. White is going to shine this year with the new scheme and revamped IOL and I can’t wait to see you eat crow.

Since Todd became head coach, Bucs were 3-5 in 2022 and 2023 after 8 games.
Facts.

Dave Pear I’m fairly new as a Bucs fan but I followed last year closely and the whole country kind of knew what happened to the Bucs in TB final season in 2022. This is a different season and that’s also a fact. I’m thinking I’d certainly be more inclined to be positive heading into this season as a fan than I would have been the last couple of seasons. I was afraid Baker wouldn’t survive the season but the team never gave up and the entire organization stood fast. Like I said I’m new here. We don’t even have pro football here in Oklahoma. And I don’t want to be accused of being a know it all. But respectfully I am old enough to have seen alot of good football in my lifetime. And these Bucs are close (not quite there ) to showing me alot more. Let’s go kick some ass

Ya, Bowles/Canales were what was wrong with the run-game. Without Rachaad they’d both be in college football right now.
Replaced by: how about Bruce Biscuit & Josh McDaniels in that case.

Feeling really good about Rachaad this season. They are ready to go!
Ed McSherry – No to McDaniels. No way. He was fired from the Broncos and Raiders. Both teams were happier after. Says a lot.

Until proven otherwise I’m going to believe the run game and the offense as a whole is going to shine this year.

Who was a Bucs fan back in the 1980s and early 1990s? Those were the Dark Ages of losing. You had to be nuts and tough to be a fan. I was one and still am. This Bucs franchise is NOTHING like those oldie moldies. Go prove yourself, Coen. This long time fan will be listening and watching. Hope the weather gods behave. Go Bucs!

I witnessed many Steve DeBerg games even a Jack Thompson game. If I had a chance to run up behind Culverhouse and yell “BOO!”….I would have

orlbucfan, I have been a Buccaneers fan since Oct 1975 when we moved to St. Pete, at 10. I have watched too many ugly games and a few Great ones in my time as a Bucs fan! Yes, you are correct we had many dark years of losing seasons. Too many.
Yet here we sit as Buccaneer fans and we now have not just one but two Super Bowl Trophies. With a great core of veteran players and a sound Coaching staff on both sides of the ball. I am sure looking forward to this season. With our many young humble hungry smart players, that can grow within the Buccaneer Team culture and playing scheme and style. We should be able to continue our Buccaneer Culture going forward. Meaning we will get another few chances at getting to the Playoffs. Where it is win and move on or lose and go home.
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

Joe, my apologies I should have mentioned that in my description that although this has nothing to do with the Bucs run game. I heard about it from my Wife on way home from little league practice and I couldn’t find anything about it on the PFT sites etc. and just wanted to ask you about it since we are playing the Comandos this weekend. I should have been more clear with my question regarding if this would be a distraction for Washington or not? I did not know how else to contact you and ask the question. I don’t see one of those contact links at the bottom of your site and after 22 years of service to our great Country I play it safe with no social media. As always thanks for what you do for all us fans especially the fans who can’t be home in Tampa to see the games.
