“Antsy, Jittery” Bo Nix

September 21st, 2024

Lavonte David

Joe was very intrigued by an Xs and Os breakdown out of Denver.

A longtime Broncos linebacker, who was a 2024 summer coaching intern on Sean Payton’s staff, had damning words for the sadsack Broncos offense and their rookie quarterback.

Retired linebacker Todd Davis (2014-2020) engaged in old school film study for DNVR.com and outlined all things Broncos.

Joe was very intrigued by his breakdown of the Broncos’ “penny package” of five down defensive linemen and one linebacker. Davis spelled out how to matchup offensive personnel to force the Broncos cornerback to be the only man the running back must beat, and he explained why it’s a strong opportunity for an explosive run. Helloooo, Bucky Irving.

But more intriguing to Joe was Davis coming clean on Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who looks a little lost in the NFL game.

Joe already documented how Nix on Sunday appeared so tweaked that he took two sacks without getting hit.

Davis slowed down the film to show Nix playing “antsy” and “jittery” (his words) unnecessarily — as in a professional quarterback should stay calm for an extra three-quarters of a second.

“He gets antsy real quick,” Davis said, acknowledging that it’s Nix’s feet as well as his upper body.

So now it’s up to Todd Bowles to make up for the loss of his two injured Bucs starting defensive tackles (Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey) and to dial up a creative pass rush. Blitz Nix from all angles to get him more jittery than ever.

If the Broncos cannot run the ball on the Bucs tomorrow (they rank 25th in yards per carry), it should be a standout day for the Bucs’ pass defense.

Even without Vea they’re stout against the run; see Greg Gaines, Mike Greene, Brewer, JTS, Hall. Plus you have solid tackling LB’s; Dennis, Britt, David. They won’t be able to run the ball against the D and I believe the pass rush will come from the edges; Diaby, JTS as well as various blitz packages from the secondary. Our corners are quite competent and I’m totally comfortable with our nickel and safety group. Tell me how the Broncos score?

Sorry forgot about Gholston being a good run defender

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Since Bo Nix apparently has happy feet, Sean Payton would do well to focus more on the running game. Nix is a fairly decent runner himself actually … 9 runs for 60 yards. He does however seem to have a propensity to throw INTs … 4 of them in 2 games.

What’s even more intriguing is that the Broncos have had 26 drives in 2 games (yes, that’s a BUNCH). And yet, they had 3 or fewer plays in 13 of those 26 drives, and were held to 5 plays on another 4 drives. Hmmm, maybe that’s why they’ve only converted 7 of 30 3rd down attempts and only scored 1 TD in 2 games.

    Trap game, “Any given Sunday…”

Just finished watching all-22 replay of last week’s game (TY Rod) Lions couldn’t do ANYthing offensively. Seemingly EVERY play the guy would be nailed by Whitehead, LD, Dennis, McCollum, Dean, Smith, before he could move an inch. And THIS is without 2 all-pro starters

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

4 days of how terrible the Broncos are seems a little overdone.

    Not a great sign.

  8. FanoftheSouth Says:

Baker looked a little antsy against the Lions rush too. Fortunately for the Bucs the D Line was not disciplined in their responsibilities and gave Mayfield an escape route up the middle.

Steelers held the Falcons to 88 yards rushing with a decent O Line and the Broncos rushed for just under 70. They put up 100 against the Seahawks ans Nix is just as affective using his legs to advance the ball.

For the second game of his Rookie Year facing the #1 Passing Defense(2023) and not being able to run the ball he did pretty well. One INT in the Red Zone and one INT on a desperation pass on the last play.

Nix is far from being the worse QB under center after two games and he just might have a good day. Should Nix break the seal on TD passes Sunday hopefully he doesn’t do it with 4 or 5.

The following two sentences, no longer here, were a malicious mischaracterization of what Joe wrote. –Joe

Joe…. Mouth of the South adds nothing and you would be wise to just disable or block his IP address. Notorious for his malicious BS.
