Antoine Winfield Wears Dreaded Walking Boot After Win

September 8th, 2024

Antoine Winfield, Jr.

Ouch!

So the Bucs lost three outside cornerbacks against the Commanders today: starter Zyon McCollom (concussion), backup Josh Hayes (ankle) and backup Bryce Hall (leg).

And now it seems the secondary suffered another casualty.

Joe didn’t see it, but many media types at The Licht House tonight are buzzing about All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. wearing the dreaded walking support boot on his right foot/ankle after the game.

Head coach Todd Bowles wasn’t asked about it in his news conference, likely because Winfield wasn’t wearing it until after getting treatment and seeing trainers.

From Joe’s experience, the boot is bad news and often means a significant ankle sprain. When Joe says significant, Joe means enough to keep Winfield out at least one game.

The Bucs next play on turf in Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Williams next week is going to run wild.

  4. Eric Says:

    Winfield will play

  5. DBS Says:

They already knew who to pick on next week. We can only hope Baker and the offense can keep up and out score them.

This must be the why not us season! Apparently the only thing that can stop us is injury. Can’t remember a season with key guys getting nagging injuries like this game 1.

Detroit no joke even watching them tonight. They are fast and physical. Everyone going to have to bring there A game Sunday. Little room for error especially with the injuries we have on defense.

  8. Buccos Says:

We may very well see them again this year

  9. Slacker Says:

Glad the offense is rolling because they are gonna need to drop 40 next week, especially with all these injuries.

  10. Bucnation Says:

Obviously a big loss can’t deny that. However, his number never really came up today 🤷‍♂️

Winfield is a warrior so he will try to play at all costs. However, if he is not 100% it might be wise to let him heal up and hopefully get ready for Denver and another rookie QB. As for the CB situation, well hopefully Zyon clears concussion protocol, but the Bucs still need to fortify their depth even if he can play next week. Perhaps find a team willing to trade who has some depth at CB but need someone like say, center like our current backup…. Else the Bucs probably raid the practice squads of other teams or get a guy off of the street. But hey, the Bucs won today, imagine how many of the chicken little fans would be heading for the Skyway if the Bucs got boatraced today like Carolina, The Browns and Washington did or looked as pathetic as the ATL on offense, losing to a Pitt team which could not even find the endzone??????

Man, I hate to hear this. The second day is so depleted foe next week and Winfield is a great player. Great game overall today though. Maybe the offense can carry the team till the secondary gets healthy.

Camp Cupcake is looking better and better in hindsight huh?

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Trade him!

    Just kidding.

  16. Crunchbuc76 Says:

Camp Cupcake already paying dividends. Kancey and Hall can’t even go week one. Three DBs down and our All Pro Safety, too. Would you like sprinkles with that? 🙄

After last nights game I feel like the Bucs offense can go toe to toe with the best, I know it’s week one but we played like a good football team and Detroit’s defense though it suffocated Matt Stafford the rams were without their starting OLine throughout the game and almost lost we need kancey back and I think we will be okay

Never protected the product buddy and God don’t like ugly👍💯

    Our Secondary’s health is SHAKY!!!

This why you don’t trade Carlton Davis. Atleast he never hurt his leg and missed a WHOLE YEAR like Bryce Hall just did.

Compared to Bryce Hall, Carlton Davis was Reliable.

We also shoulda never let Sean Murphy Bunting off this team!

Jordan Whitehead is back and 100%. He played like it yesterday, too. He also has been mentoring Izien who had a decent game for a 2nd year DB. LVD said on the postgame radio show that he has been informally coaching and leading out on the field. He’s playing next Sunday. So, all is not lost regarding the D. Offense and Special Teams need to STEP UP their game, and help the Defense. They did it yesterday. Chase M. scored all his FGs and extra points. The Offense was solid even with the refs. Detroit better not get over confident. Go Bucs!!

Orl buc fan whos playing next sunday winfield

  22. Tony Says:

See why it’s important to take the points & for teams & coaches to get out of this stupid analytics mindset? Pittsburgh kicked six FGs & won &.did the Bucs a favor. Instead all of these teams & coaches want to be greedy & want to score a TD on every possession. Just kick the FG or punt the ball.

  23. Tony Says:

Maybe they should consider giving Stephon Gilmore or Patrick Peterson a call now.

  24. Tony Says:

BRING BACK RONDE BARBER JOHN LYNCH DWIGHT SMITH DEXTER JACKSON DAMIEN ROBINSON DONNIE ABRAHAM & BRIAN KELLY & then we’ll be set again.
