“You Don’t Have To Make A Perfect Throw”

August 24th, 2024

High praise from Bucs QB.

In his first home game as a Bucs receiver, even though it was a worthless preseason game, Jalen McMillan made a catch that people will remember long after they forgot about Friday’s night’s game.

(Bucs coach Todd Bowles, when asked in his postgame presser to compare playing in the third worthless preseason last year, admitted he didn’t remember anything about that game.)

On the Bucs’ first drive — which shockingly ended in a touchdown — rookie McMillan had the biggest play. He caught a 28-yard pass from Baker Mayfield coming down at the Miami-4. McMillan had to sky high to get the pass between two Dolphins defenders.

Mayfield said after the game that a receiver’s ability to catch like that sure helps a quarterback.

“Just putting one up there for him, a one-on-one contested catch,” Mayfield explained of the play. “You don’t have to make a perfect throw when a guy is able to high-point it like that.

“His body control and the things can he can do naturally, you can’t teach. And I think that was a really good example of it.”

Mayfield added with the receivers he has to throw to, he’s “confident where we are at.”

And it appears perhaps McMillan has won the No. 3 receiver gig. He and Trey Palmer were neck and neck. Each has unique skillsets the other doesn’t, sort of a yin and yang. Both will get a lot of snaps each game.

(If somehow you could fuse both Palmer and McMillan together you’d have a world class receiver.)

But Palmer is dinged up. Not with a major injury, Bowles said after the game. He should be, as Bowles said, “OK.”

So with two weeks to go before the Bucs host Washington to open the season, McMillan has an inside track to be the Bucs No. 3 receiver.

Or at least, No. 3A.

I don’t see us losing more than a handful of games this year.

    Looking good BUCS!!! Let’s go!!!

  3. David Says:

We knew they’d be 3&4 And we were told tonight that KAM secure a spot
So now I’m curious about the others fighting it out for 1 spot

We’ve only seen our offense against 2nd team defenses. I’m not ready to say this team is great… but I am excited!

  5. SB Says:

We can argue. I have been saying all along from Draft Day that this was WR3 for us. People all agree and they aren’t Bucs fans.
    LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great play and execution. Agree with SB. Sure hands and the ability to make adjustments in the air and continuing to complete the play is a rare skill. Good to see he can be a weapon downfield also.

White tiger that’s exactly how I feel. Still not sold on the defense. We are extremely thin at LB which with the way Todd likes to use them worries me.

Hey Joe, knock off the preseason dissing. It’s boring, tiresome and just plain STUPID! Bucs looked tight and sharp even with the rooks. Looking forward to Sept. 8.

That was a great route by McMillan. Love how he faked a stop n go to get a step on his corner. Great play by QB, WR, and O-line! That play looked sharp and crisp.

If they can keep doing this…

    Go Bucs ! ! !

I haven’t seen last night’s game, however, I fear we are going to get burned big time by a good passing attack. Playing 7-10 yards off (yet again) is not going to cut it.

Two awesome catches from a receiver that will be a superstar in the NFL. Just take a look back in time 2022 he was the man!! He has a championship mindset and shows it in his game. I believe he and Palmer are going to have Big seasons, not to step on anyone’s toes at we kinda have 4 number one receivers. Mike has always been like not only the best we’ve had and all, but he’s real and he doesn’t like put himself on a pedestal. Chris is the same way, these two are in a great place with to recievers that will help them without any kind of attitude like, I’m better, or anything like that. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
