“You Don’t Have A Chance With That Type Of Polynesian Power”

August 26th, 2024

Too strong for mortal centers.

Joe remembers the playoff win over the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Any time the Bucs are able to beat down the Eagles, it’s a great game.

Joe vividly remembers how the Bucs shut down the famed Philly Tush Push on a two-point attempt, a play the northeastern media thought was unstoppable.

A big reason for that stop was the beastly strength of Bucs defensive tackle Vita Vea.

Fast forward to Friday night. Miami had a third-and-one situation on their opening drive. Vea absolutely manhandled Miami center Jack Driscoll, bullrushing him back at least five yards and in the process, blowing up the run and creating a hole so huge, Bucs linebacker Vi Jones had a clear shot at the ball carrier.

Joe is still stoked by what Vea did. And so too is former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger of NFL Network.

Baldinger knows what it’s like to face beastly defensive tackles. He said when Vea can go low and get under an offensive lineman, with his strength, it’s all over.

“Third-and-one, you don’t have a chance with that type of Polynesian power,” Baldinger said of Vea’s play. “Every center has the same fear: You get this guy one-on-one and he gets underneath you, there’s nothing you can do.”

In the first couple of years that Todd Bowles was Bucs defensive coordinator, the run defense was so good, teams didn’t even try to run on the Bucs. That could be the same thing this year with the addition of Chris Braswell, and with Calijah Kancey entering Year 2. Kancey was excellent against the run as a rookie.

A big reason then and now why the Bucs ought to be so strong against the run? Vea, that’s why.

It’s against the pass in a passing league that worries a lot of us.

    But, Liam can outscore them.

For years people in the comments here said that Vita couldn’t afford to lose weight, because if he did he’d lose his power.

    See the video above.

Seen some powerful D Linemen over the years Dave Pear and Sapp and Selmon of course and others. Not sure I ever saw a Buc Lineman do that. Truly impressive Mr Vea.

    Go Bucs!

I love the title “Mowin Samoan” since he does that lawn mower thing when entering the field except Vita is from Tonga, not Samoa.

    Maybe ……TONGA TERROR?

Take a look at Kancey just toss his guy. These two dudes…. Wow!

  16. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Speaking of tossing guys – Logan Hall sends his guy flying. Dolphin backups, but damn boys!

I will add Vita-Manbeast and Tongan Terror to the list. We are so fortunate to have him.

This is the best pre season I’ve seen Vita have since the SB. He lost the weight, got in great shape, and came to camp like a man on a mission.

A player with Vita’s talent on a true mission can load an entire defense on his back both physically and emotionally. He just seems to be truly motivated this season.

You add a player the talent of Winfield on this D and that’s two players who could be the best at their positions at minimum in the top 3-4. That’s a lot of star power for just one team. Then add the great supporting stars like LVD, Whitehead, and the young guys like YaYa and Calijah and this team has the chance in fact IMO the right to expect a top 5 defense this season.

Tonga Typhoon, Mola Ka’ Knocktail, Mowin Samoin is pretty good.

I think we should intro the defense to Darth Vaders Theme…
