YaYa Diaby Status? “We Will See Next Week”

August 28th, 2024

Todd Bowles discusses.

Todd Bowles sounded to Joe like Jack and Joe Buck yesterday.

The Bucks, father and son broadcasters, each used the very same line to sign off a World Series Game 6 and pimp Game 7 all in one sentence.

When Kirby Puckett and David Freese each blasted game-winning homers in Game 6 of the 1991 and 2013 World Series, respectively, both Jack Buck and Joe Buck uttered the same phrase, “We will see you tomorrow night.”

For Bucs coach Todd Bowles, it will be a little longer than one night.

Bowles was asked yesterday about Bucs edge rusher YaYa Diaby. The second-year Louisville product badly sprained an ankle early in training camp. Since, Diaby has targeted Week 1 for a return but has yet to practice.

Bowles didn’t want to predict Diaby’s gameday status well over a week away.

“We will see next week,” Bowles said. “He’s trending [in the right direction] – we will see next week.

“We’ve got to keep getting better and better and then we’ll see next week.”

Joe spoke to Diaby after the joint practice with the Dolphins last Wednesday. He told Joe that it is a real, obtainable goal to be Washington-ready for Week 1.

“I’m feeling good right now,” Diaby said. “I’m taking it day-by-day.”

The Bucs saw fit not to add anyone legitimate to upgrade their sorry edge rush from last year (no, Joe is not expecting a rookie edge rusher to make a difference), choosing instead to bank on hope.

So the Bucs need all hands of all their edger rushers on deck.

Joe buck is the most boring announcer I’ve ever heard. Will never forget how emotionless he was on that Blount run against the Packers ….

    Is JTS practicing yet?

If not, are who are the starting 2 OLB Braz, Nelson, or Ramirez?

Already thin at our 2nd deepest position group.

How can you say that? We added veteran stud Randy Gregory. Unfortunately, that situation went up in a cloud of smoke.

My guess is the Bucs look to sign an edge if Diaby isn’t ready to go soon.

Or, they give Braswell a baptism by fire by throwing him out there with JTS/Nelson/Watts/Ramirez.

Joe sees what you did there. 🙂

Joe Buck Sr’s call…. besides Vin, he was the best ever. For as much crap as he take… Joe Buck Jr is the best of his generation.
As far as football… this team can not be great unless Darby is really really good.

Hopefully he doesn’t re-injure when he does return.

The Bucs have been dumpster diving with at least 30 other teams.

Todd’s MO tells me that we will not find out till game time.

Shh it’s a secret! Like our TC practices. No spies allowed inside the perimeter. If it is breached we move the human player shield in and scrimmage way way over there. Got it!

    Go Bucs!

    Not good

  11. Jeff Says:

We’ll see him week 4 post the Bucs 0-3 start.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

I doubt we start that poorly Jeff. We should beat Washington and Denver at home. Detroit in Ford Field might be interesting. I think we beat Phillie at home too. Atlanta is the one I’m dying to see. That’s a critical game in my eyes
