Will Gholston Mauls Alex Cappa

August 12th, 2024

See No. 65 of the Bengals on the ground in the photo above?

That’s Bengals starting right guard Alex Cappa on his ass, the 2018 Buccaneers third-round draft pick.

Cappa is well-liked in Cincinnati and is halfway through his four-year, $35 million contract. He’s 29 and in his prime.

Saturday night, Cappa played very limited snaps with the Bengals’ first team against the Bucs and one snap was a beatdown by veteran Bucs defensive tackle Will Gholston, who is kicking off his 12th season. That’s the play in the photo! Gholston (No. 92) got a 1-on-1 opportunity in run defense against Cappa and violently threw him to the ground and made the tackle on Bengals running back Chase Brown for a just about a two-yard gain.

Unfortunately, it was 3rd-and-1 on the play.

Despite the first down, Joe was pleased to see that kind of success from Gholston. The Bucs will need it this season if Logan Hall can’t rise to his draft status, especially against Atlanta’s nasty run game.

    GREAT FIND!!!

It’s fun going against ex-Bucs. I appreciated Cappa. A broken bone or two … Rub some dirt on it. Cappa is in the discussion for the All-Time Toughest Buc Award.

  2. Scott Says:

He has been a force in the run game for so long

  3. Crickett Baker Says:

    Ditto! “””

  4. Dave Pear Says:

Who doesn’t love an unsung Buccaneer like Will Gholston. Love that he whipped up on Cappa. And definitely expecting to see a lot of him this season while the Oaf lurches off into other parts unknown.

I’m waiting for the article about Reddick officially requesting a trade today, Joe! Any chance we go after him? Is he viewed as a bad locker room fit?

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Gonna need him with all the injuries popping up at camp.

    SlyPirate

Cappa and Joe J are the only two Super Bowl year players in that discussion that I can think of.

    Who else?

  8. Drunkinybor Says:

I’ll go back abd get s tinr stanp.

  9. WiseCrack Says:

Scratch that Jurevicius was a family matter. Not the tough man broken bone rub some dirt on it, Criteria.

Guess JPP would qualify. Was just trying to remember someone from our first SB that would beat Cappa

  10. Dude Says:

No shocked, Gholston is a grown a** man and plays like it

  11. Drunkinybor Says:

OMG!! The play starts at 13:51 in the 1st quarter. Joe he destroyed Cappa wow! That is hilarious. Threw him way out of the club!

  12. Drunkinybor Says:

Sorry but watching it again. Wow! He threw him to the side like a little child . Then he immediately turns and makes the tackle. Its Picasso or a Rembrandt a undeniable thing of beauty. I’m all jacked up now. Sorry for multiple posts.

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

But what does nasty mean Joe?

  14. Buc1987 Says:

    Wow!

    LFG!

  15. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I like Cappa but I think Licht was smart not to give him second-contract kind of money. You can pretty easily get his type of production from a guy still on his rookie contract.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

No way Jason trades anything for Reddick. He wants a new contract while he still has one in force and he’s become a total me-first guy. If he ends up a Buc it’s because Jason gets him for almost free and he commits to play on his existing contract. That ain’t happening.

worthless article on a worthless play in a worthless game

  18. J Says:

    Gholston is a stud.

WiseCrack Wants to know who is on your

TOUGHEST BUCS ALL-TIME (My Top 3)

    1. JPP. Blows off fingers one year. Breaks his neck crashing a Ferrari at high speed the next. Not only does he play, JPP records 9.5 sacks with 8 fingers and 8.5 sacks with a broken neck.

    2. Alexa Cappa. Breaks his arm in the 2nd Quarter. Finishes the game. I think he broke his leg the next year.

    3. Jameis Winston. Love him or Hate him, it doesn’t matter, he’s tough! Winston broke his thumb on his throwing hand vs Indianapolis. He played the next game and threw for 458 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT! He even got sacked 2x but didn’t come out.

Feel free to share your knowledge of Bucs lore.

  20. Drunkinybor Says:

Dewey you got the blues? Worthless comment on a worthless game. So what. We are shooting the sh*t and having a good time talking ball. Take your negative energy and go watch the Falcons. I think we are allowed to get excited watching a amazing play against a starter for Cincy. Wait am I allowed?…. Yes yes I am. Because I’m a grown up.

  21. D-Rok Says:

Hey Joe and guys – Jonathan Taylor of the Colts actually wore a guardian cap in their preseason game. He looked like a mushroom from Super Mario Bros.

Sorry for the off-topic topic, but geez, why don’t they just start playing flag football?

You should do an article on it, Joe, if it pleases you. Might these caps be the new future of the NFL?

  22. Buc1987 Says:

Drunkinybor…Dewey was taking a shot at Joe.

  23. Dude Says:

    @D-Rok

I think that’s smart if Taylor as an RB, anything to extend the otherwise shortened career of a human pinball

  24. Hodad Says:

    We need to keep Will.

  25. Durango 95 Says:

Gholston has been a solid player for this team extending all the way back to the toes on the line Schiano days. Deserves all the love he gets and more.

  26. Dewey Selmon Says:

Drunk you been drinking? 1987 was right it was a shot at Joe, but it’s not negative. Just busting balls

  27. Dave Pear Says:

We all should drink. More. And bust more balls. For health. And fun.

  28. Mort Says:

Hard to say Gholston won when they converted, but it’s August and you gotta fill time with something I guess. Still think these are “Worthless” games? You sure have monetized the sh¡t out of them.

  29. Beeej Says:

Doug Williams played a game or 2 in his first or 2nd season with his jaw wired shut

  30. Drunkinybor Says:

    Dewey sorry I got it.

  31. Tony Says:

Yeah I was really hoping Cappa & Marpet would’ve been with the Bucs longer than they were. Sucked to lose them.

  32. garro Says:

Love that Cappa is doing well!
Love even more that the Bucs elder statesman is still kicking ass and taking names! Go Will!

    Go Bucs!

  33. FrontFour Says:

If memory serves,Kerry Jenkins our left guard on SB 37 had a leg or ankle fracture and played in the SB. Hacksaw Reynolds’s stuff.

  34. Mveal2006 Says:

I wish hall we’ll, but he ain’t gonna win the job imo.
