Week 1 Expected For Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

August 19th, 2024

Rest easy, Bucs fans. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is going to be OK.

Joe’s being a little sarcastic about the fourth-year edge rusher still looking for a breakout season. But Todd Bowles delivered the good news today about Tryon-Shoyinka’s nagging summer neck injury; he’s making progress and is trending toward a Week 1 return.

Joe can say the same about YaYa Diaby’s ankle sprain, as well.

Tryon-Istinka is not the guy Bucs thought he was.

  2. ElioT Says:

    What a hair style.

I think JTS is a poser and I really, really hope I’m wrong.

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

Yaya Diaby, JTS, Greg Gaines, Whitehead, Funderburk, Sirvocea Dennis, Merriweather, Skule, Haggard, Chase Edmonds, Devin Culp, Payne Durham are all walking wounded. Bucs have lots of depth guys injured.

At least Calijah got back to practice today.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

I hope YaYa is ready for week one….I could care less if JTS plays or not.

A LOT of former players say these soft camps are getting guys injured, because the guys are just not in football shape, and never really have a chance to ramp things up, because they’re practicing so little, when they do get some actual play time, they’re needing to go from 0 to 100 and getting hurt. The more consistent camps of the past allowed guys to get into football shape more gradually since you had so many more practices – and also allowed you to stay in shape as well.

JTS has the 2nd most sacks at edge on the team (13.), so I hope he’s ready to go. Nelson actually has the most (14.5), but also an extra 2-years to get there.

The hate on JTS is just nonsense. He’s nothing special, but he’s not a liability either. I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he steps up this year and ends with around 8 sacks.

Daniels named official starter for opening day for Washington! Rookie on opening day sounds good to me!! Linebackers will be getting a lot of action.. Go Bucs

  8. Dave Pear Says:

JTS will sell a lot of cosmetics in another year. Either that or he’ll have a gig with Tyson Foods’ headless chicken division.

  9. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Rod – I don’t disagree with you. I think there are three primary reasons for it. One is the terms of the CBA limit the contact and practice time. That’s a result of the creation of the modern free agency and the salary cap systems which has seen player salaries skyrocket over the past 30 years. Teams are attempting to protect their investment. Finally, the NFL wants to limit its liability for later in life issues that arise from repeated high impact collisions like head injuries, joint replacement and other degenerative disorders.

It’s a catch-22 because if the NFL starts having players sign waiver’s acknowledging certain injuries and lifelong consequences from playing they make themselves liable to the previous generations of players who didn’t get the same warnings.

Amazing how this guy is being propped up as the week 1 starter, and frankly he’s done d!ck in the NFL. To me this is almost as effective as Jose Ramirez barely playing a snap in the preseason, but he’s getting the start week 1. Last season, JTS could not set the edge filling in for Shaq when he went out, and then when you need his speed and athletic talent Ridder keeps and beats him to the edge for a score. The only thing JTS has going for him is he’s got the prototypical build of an OLB/DE and that is it.

We are in horrible shape OLB, we have a slew of undersized rotational OLB, and we are banking that YaYa is the second coming JPP. Man, what I wouldn’t give for a couple of Carl Nassib type edge rushers.

  11. Jordan Says:

He’s not bad, he’s just not what we were hoping him to be which is Shaq Barrett’s replacement.

A Bucs Fan – I know the CBA rules, but this is the most cupcake camp I’ve ever heard of. They make a huge deal about practicing with other teams replacing games, then they show up and say no tackling at practice, then the next day Bowles wants it to just be underwear football. Other teams aren’t doing this, this is on Bowles.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

BucsfaninOregon – He’s literally improved every year in the NFL. Also all I said was I wouldn’t be surprised, not that I’m predicting it.

He’ll have his chance to prove it or not – but the Bucs will have to get production from somewhere.

    ^^^^^^^

Wait what?!!! We’ve all been waiting for an update CK. Is this real? It wasn’t in the practice notes.

JOE: Did you fall asleep at the wheel? This is a big deal.

  16. drdneast Says:

Who or WTF is a Rod Munch. No doubt he thinks that no longer allowing DB’s to go head hunting makes the NFL wussy too.

  17. drdneast Says:

If anyone thinks JTS’s injury is real, I have some ocean front property in Belle Glade to sell you. JTS is one player who could have used some reps in the preseason and I think he knew he was going to get them so he went Al Czervik on the Bucs. With his work ethic he is never going to get to 8 sacks.

  18. FrontFour Says:

Joe, are you sure that’s not a picture of JTS’ sister?

  19. Dave Pear Says:

    JTS is his sister.

If you think John Lynch has not place in football, you’re a limp wristed cupcake for sure.

A Bucs Fan – Agree with your overview reasons. So true, catch-22.

JTS is only 25 years old. This could be his break-out year.

  22. Dave Pear Says:

JTS breakout year ? That would be awesome. Hopefully it’s on the football field.

But more likely, it’s Facial Foundation and Eye Shadow for men. Gonna go crazy in the market.
