Was There A Pass Rush?

August 10th, 2024

Got lone QB hit.

Joe heard late in the game Rondé Barber tonight give kudos to the Bucs pass rush for so many pressures.

Joe’s just not a pressure guy. Pressure doesn’t bother good quarterbacks. But putting their arses on the ground will.

The Bucs couldn’t come up with a sack tonight. The official gamebook showed Jose Ramirez, an Auburndale graduate and last year’s sixth-round pick to have the only quarterback hit of the game for the Bucs.

The official gamebook does not record pressures.

Still, Bucs coach Todd Bowles seemed encouraged by the pressures from Bucs pass rushers after the game.

“I thought they did a good job, especially the second and third group,” Bowles said. “They got back there. They drew a couple of holding calls. So, that was big for us getting them in third-and-longs.

“We just have to continue to get better.”

Well, Joe is happy to see Ramirez get better. NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund hyped up Ramirez on draft night in the spring of 2023 as one of her biggest sleepers.

He’s still with the Bucs, so that’s a good sign. And with a year of seasoning in Bowles’ defense, Joe hopes Ramirez is turning the corner.

As Bowles said, they just have to get better. You know, like putting quarterbacks on their backsides.

For all the hype Ramirez and Watts keeps getting they where invisible. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucs bring in another veteran pass rusher.

Ramirez drew 3 holding calls. That’s almost as good as a sack.

I agree with Joe, yeah Ramirez drew 2-3 holding penalties, in comparison, our QBs were on the ground, how many sacks did Cincy have?

    True.

Watts got pressure on the Keenan Isaac Int too.

Count Mississippis at the snap, it’s not that the rush isn’t getting home it’s that the mark is on the go by time they get to knocking. Merriweather had that blitz on Burrow that made him dirt a ball. More ways than one, and as mentioned we force a turnover off a pressure, I’ll take that combo over registering a sack almost any day.

It’ll come together, idk if you guys noticed it earlier in the game but Gaines & Hall were flip flopping from 3T/4i & Nose. First defensive drive Hall lined up on the inside shoulder of the RT. The alignment looked odd until the OLB sank into a zone

““We just have to continue to get better.” First game of the year and Coach Bowles already broke out the tired, worn out, stupid line. Here it is again, ““We just have to continue to get better.” ughhhhh!

There are the usual mental midgets on here. Yes, a successful QB pressure knocks him off-balance mentally. It may not lose as much yardage as a sack, but the more nervous the opposing QB gets, the better for the D. They want that QB rattled cos then he makes mistakes. For a first preseason game with no starters ‘cept our kickers, the Bucs looked disciplined and tight. They keep it up, the guys who get cut will have some good film on them. They’ll get snatched up by other teams, too.

At least Todd continued the winning tradition of giving up a TD drive on the opening possession like free cookies at the church social, paired with a non-scoring offensive opening possession.

Ramirez would have had at least 2 sacks, but got held. Both times the holding was flagged and cost the Bengals yardage. He was there all night. Now if you want to cast some shade, no DTs came anywhere near a QB

Plus, Jose knows ASL. At a season ticket holder event a couple of weeks ago, I witnessed him speaking sign language with a deaf fan asking for his autograph. I asked if he had any deaf friends or family members, he said no, he was just interested in it and took classes to learn, mostly in college. Really cool and classy guy.

Cool story, TampaTown. Looking forward to anything else you might see on other events you get to go to.

its impossible to win a championship without a Pass Rush. I must have been watching a different game last night because I witnessed none.

He didn’t get a 3 sacks in his first preseason game, clearly a bust. Time to move on already, he’s just another JTS.

I’m just here to make sure that Joe remembers to remind us that the bucs’ general manager loves AC/DC
