Vet Night For Lavonte David, Mike Evans
August 23rd, 2024Don’t worry Bucs fans, it’s all good.
Bucs coach Todd Bowles decided to give probably his best two players the night off. A vet night. They won’t play against the Dolphins tonight.
Lavonte David and Mike Evans have the night off, Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network during the pregame show of tonight’s final worthless preseason game facing the Dolphins. Word comes from Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.
As Joe wrote in “Gameday Tampa Bay” this morning, Evans had no business playing in a dumb preseason game tonight. Evans (and Chris Godwin) were ready for the regular season on Day 1 of training camp. That’s how well they have been practicing.
And Joe wrote (and witnessed) Evans absolutely wearing out the Dolphins’ secondary in the joint practice with Miami on Wednesday. Evans did not need this trivial game to be Washington-ready.
Joe is so glad Bowles used common sense here.
Call it a “vet night” for two of Tampa Bay’s best.

Has Trask has ever been on the field with Evans and Godwin at the same time?
August 23rd, 2024 at 6:47 pm
You mean for that one pass in Indianapolis last year? Godwin was targeted. Not sure if Evans was on the field. Don’t know why he wouldn’t be.
Man, these Trask people just won’t give up. You post something about real NFL stars and they ask about Trask. smh
You’d think these people might take a hint when the Bucs dropped millions in Baker Mayfield’s lap. But nnnnooo…

Why would any franchise want to pay big money to a free agent quarterback if the guy is already on staff? Trask is trash and I’ll be so glad for the 2025 season when he is on some other roster and you can find your fetish somewhere else. If he can make a roster, he plays like a UDFA.
I don’t think any of our starters should play more than a couple series except Logan hall he could play all 4 quarters. Won’t improve his game at all but he’ll be in game shape

I will miss Lavonte and Mike not playing tonight but it’s a good thing. They deserve the night off, and would hate to see them get hurt. They are still cheering on the sidelines. Go Bucs!!

LOL, we get an article about Shawn King the GOAT of midget QBs for the Bucs. Then we get the double down in the comments about how great the Baker King is compared to a legit DRAFTED QB by the Bucs

I’ve read way more about KAMERON
JOHNSON than anything about Trask.
I remember the media writing and talking about Mahomes, Rogers, Love….I like Trask but I see a back up not a super star.
It won’t be here but I hope Trask proves me wrong.
Go Bucs!

Hopefully the rest of the key vets play 1 quarter max themselves. Work up a light lather, then see ya in September boys.

I can wait until September 8th to see those guys. If Bowles doesn’t feel they need to play I’d rather they not play. We need those guys to be healthy.
It will give more opportunity to some lower on the depth chart. It would be nice to see SirVocea Dennis if he’s been cleared by the medical staff

I don’t have any issues with those guys having the night off. My issue is not playing your QB, offensive line, other WRs, TEs in a new offense. For the defense, it’s less of an issue for all the vets since it’s the same scheme – but outside of your future HOF’ers, the other guys should be getting reps (so that means let Winfield and Wirfs also sit).

Times (and priorities and goals) have changed.
Preseason used to be getting in shape. Now, the goal is getting everyone across the finish line healthy for games that count.

I know, but I still don’t buy the idea that not playing guys and not having them do full (ie real) practices does anything to keep them more healthy. I know a lot of ex-players feel the same way – say these limited practices and lack of practices is causing a lot more soft tissue injuries (I believe that’s the wording).
In any case, I hope the Bucs come out and look sharp.

Joe I’m clearly not a Trasker, but I’m TRULY wondering if he’s ever had the opportunity to throw a pass to ME13

In an actual regular season game? Thinking just once. But Evans wasn’t targeted (Godwin was).
