Uncharacteristic Night On Fourth Down

August 10th, 2024

Rough night.

So the Bucs sat nearly all their starters tonight in the preseason opener at Cincinnati.

But a couple of regulars did play on special teams.

Joe’s talking about punter Jake Camarda and kicker Chase McLaughlin, who is coming off a stellar 2023 season. Yeah, it’s preseason, so Joe doesn’t feel stupid nitpicking these guys.

Camarda didn’t have a good night. He missed a chance to pin the Bengals and his net punting numbers weren’t close to his standard. Camarda’s four punts had a net average of only 34 yards. For perspective, the worst teams in the league will average about 38 net yards per punt.

McLaughlin? He missed a 51-yarder and nearly missed an extra point on the Bucs’ second touchdown in their 17-14 win. McLaughlin did make a 35-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Overall, it was an uncharacteristic night from both guys.

So if you enjoy freaking out, there you go.

    Lol

    Impressive start Coen.

I always worry about personal life with young guys even the vest obes. In baseball, women problems almost ruined Blake Snell.

This comment could apply in many places and may not apply here.

Rust, spray some windex or whatever on both of’em and they’ll be fine. Camarda probably needs a joint to calm his nerves.

  4. Mark A Swygert Says:

Camarda’s leg maybe a little overtaxed from all the time spent preparing for the new kickoff rules. He has probably never had to kickoff this much in practice before and it maybe is draining his leg strength. As for McLaughlin? Well, nobody’s perfect.

It was a gift for the special teams coach. Now he can yell at them all next week.

Hilarious that the Trashkophiles get all gooey watching their boy suck. He is what he is, a poor man’s Mike Glennon only with worse pocket presence and a field vision processor slower than the speed of smell.

  7. John Sinclear Says:

Relax, Joe. It’s just a “worthless pre-season game”. When the kicks REALLY count, they will make them.

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

Camarda didn’t punt as well at the end of last year, so is this a continuation or because of the extra kickoff work in practice? We’ll see…..

Camarda was more concerning to me

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Oh god, Camarda last preseason wasn’t kicking them 60 yards and people were talking about him being a one year wonder, etc.

Calm down ladies, it’s week 1 of the preseason.
