Todd Bowles With Another One-Liner

August 18th, 2024

Todd Bowles jokes about Randy Gregory debacle.

Joe is really enjoying this new loosened-up Todd Bowles.

Away from a podium, the Bucs coach is damn near gregarious. That’s right, Joe typed it. Bowles is often seen (away from a podium, microphone and the TV klieglights) joking and laughing.

Oh, he’s serious about work. Very serious. But once he steps off the practice field and cameras and microphones aren’t in sight, it’s not uncommon to hear Bowles before you see him — he has a booming laugh.

This year, Joe has noticed a looser Bowles at the podium. In the past, it was like he was frozen in front of TV cameras. Stiff as a board. Almost like he got fined for every word he spoke.

But this year he’s starting to relax a bit. He’s had some good one-liners this summer, the best coming early in training camp when he said after a Jamel Dean interception that he ought to be drug tested.

Well, today in his post-game presser, Bowles tried to have a little fun with a sad issue. Why the Bucs thought bringing in Randy Gregory to try to lift one of the worst edge-rushing teams in the league was a slick idea is beyond Joe’s comprehension.

Gregory signed with the Bucs this spring — and then fully blew them off. Never showed up at OTAs, underwear football practices, mandatory minicamp nor training camp. Never showed up.

Last night on the WFLA-TV Channel 8 broadcast of the Bucs game at Jacksonville — thanks Chris Myers for the shoutout! — Myers noted the Bucs reached an agreement with Gregory and the team will release him.

Asked about Gregory this morning, Bowles said, “Can’t miss what you never had.”

Rimshot!

Then, Bowles fought himself trying not to break out into a smile.

Bowles also added he never learned why Gregory didn’t show up. Joe has a damn good guess why and it’s not very hard to put two-and-two together. Gregory, just after he signed with the Bucs, sued the Broncos who he played for last year citing discrimination basically because the Broncos wouldn’t let him do one-hitters.

That’s all you need to know about this guy.

As for not missing what you don’t have, Joe sure misses those drive-killing sacks from the edge.

“Looser Bowles” if spelled incorrectly would be a very bad thing.

  2. Kysbucs18 Says:

Did the Bucs recoup all the money or did they have to pay Gregory something?

  3. HC Grover Says:

I am not optimistic bout this year yet.

  4. Joe Says:

    “Reached an agreement.”

Feel free to interpret that however you like. The Bucs were trying to get back the bonus money they gave the bum. Ronde Barber and Myers seemed to indicate they got the signing bonus back, but they didn’t say that specifically.

  5. Dave Pear Says:

Here’s a one liner from Jason Licht:

“Todd, fix your zone bust pass defense or someone else will.”

  6. SlyPirate Says:

Potential Lawsuit: $535,000. Guaranteed Bucs Contract: $1,350,000

    Commas matter.

When Coloradans passed Amendment 64 to legalize pot, they voted to give employers choices about marijuana use. Employers can test and create company policies restricting marijuana and other drug use.

The team will settle for whatever the insurance policy will pay. 100% of that will go to the attorney. RG will get next to nothing.

I know we’re not supposed to use the word “retarded” anymore but sometimes it’s the perfect fit.

As a follower for years i have to say this is by FAR the best Bucs site! Thanks @joebucsfan
With that being said I’d love to hear Ira speak about the MLB position. Britt looks sluggish in coverage lol and outside of talking trash i haven’t seen him jump off the screen at ALL…PS Bucky Irving is the REAL DEAL

  8. WiseCrack Says:

Speaking of one liners. Did the @Joe’s catch the Chris Myers reference to JBF when he said, “I wonder what JoeBucsFan is gonna have to say about it”. Or something to that effect late in the game.

  9. Tony Says:

Even if they’re older they should give Stephon Gilmore & Patrick Peterson a call. No matter what they’d be able to bring some experience to the secondary & help them.

  10. Tony Says:

BRING BACK RONDE! DRESS HIM UP AGAIN!

  11. Fritz50 Says:

Last Night’s sackfest are proof that, while very helpful, Sacks are NOT all you need to have a good defense. Just like pressures, or even take-aways. It takes a unit wide focus by the defense on aspects of the defensive plan. Had it last week, didn’t this week. Simple as that.

Yup, Joe referenced the shoutout in this very post. 🙂

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Personally, I think if the Bucs don’t get 100% back, they should sue Gregory. It’s clear it was nothing more than a money grab on his part. Would be ironic if he won that lawsuit…and had to turn around and give it all to the Bucs.

  14. HC Grover Says:

Down with the new improved kickoffs. They had to fix that which was not broke. Who the heck tought this gem up?

  15. HC Grover Says:

Can we petition to get rid of the stupid kickoff? It is puke worthy.

  16. Joe in Michigan Says:

Why didn’t Gregory report? Have you ever heard Afroman’s song “Because I Got High”?

  17. heyjude Says:

Loving Todd Bowles new attitude and humor! He always seemed so reserved. Who knew he really had personality!

HC Grover – That is such a great idea. The new kickoff pilot program is horrible. Isn’t it the NFL Football Operations – Competition Committee that make the rules? All chosen by Roger Goodell. I think Rich McKay is the Chair/President of it. They definitely need to regroup on this rule.

  18. Dave Pear Says:

Maybe Toad is eyeing a career in standup after points allowed correlate to yards allowed on defense in 2024, a season in which 25ppg on offense may not be enough for 8 wins.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Another pot-addled brainiac destroys his career for the Goddes Ganja.

    Maroon.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

“They’re calling it Camp Cupcake? Well, if that’s the case, I guess our secret play is the ol’ sugar rush offense. Hope the other teams are ready for a sweet surprise,” Bowles chuckled as reporters sat silently.

  21. Bucsfan Says:

take advantage of the new kickoff rule and run a reverse to a backup QB and let him heave it across the field a la “the Music City Miracle”.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Dave Pear – I’m a professional comedy analyst and humor critic, so take this as advice and not a personal attack. You can’t make fun of someone for not being funny when you yourself think calling Todd, Toad, is the height of humor.

    Just trying to help.

  23. Rsah Says:

scariest comment from Toilet Bowles and always wil be ” we play not to lose and then try to win” very Dumbgy like mentallity.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Rsah – Don’t ever compare Todd Bowles to HOF coach Tony Dungy. What a stupid, lazy and low IQ thing to say.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

“They think Camp Cupcake isn’t tough? Wait until they get a taste of Baker—he’s cooking up something special,” Bowles said with a chuckle to a silent press room.

  26. rash Says:

hey munch 4 hof defensive players 11 years won no super bowls 10 years peyton manning won 1 21 years coaching 1 super bowl
gruden 1st year superbowlw win 5 new offensive starters 22 0f 53 man roster new he is a coach 40-% roster turnover ” he won with Dumgy’s team” bs how come tony couldnt win with his team…the reason…playing not to lose keep game tight until 4th quartet….thats a coin toss Bowles…dumby smith…raheem…Tony Dungy great man great christian.. good guy bad head coach just sux toilet bowles is same mentality…poor us

  27. Bucsfan Says:

Yeah all Dungy did was lift the Bucs from perpetual irrelevance to being a consistent winner and playoff team that missed the Super Bowl because Markbreit jobbed them on the Emmanuelle catch. Just come out and say you don’t like Black head coaches, I could at least respect you for being honest.

  28. Kenton Smith Says:

Thanks Rod Munch. Now whenever I see Coach Bowles grinning I’ll think more sinister forces are at work than simply happiness. And at least Dave ain’t calling him “Turd”.

  29. rash Says:

Let offense TRY to score . Rag on Baker got playoff win year 2 owner stupid got DeShaun so baker had to go /carolina he was trying to win they wanted to lose for #1 pick..LA filled in for injures Stafford… 4 teams 3 of the choices were pre-determined….locker room likes him tries hard..a little short but playcalling ..some rollouts can offset that…Baker not the problem Bowles is….Got the old mis-communication phrase again……like nfc title shot with Brady let Cooper Kupp go uncovered for 60 plus yards 1 minute to go….Bowles situation stinks this year just k
like groundhogs day same results at the end

  30. PewterStiffArm Says:

Well now we might be able to pursue another pass rusher. How about Yannick Ngakoue, he’s available and a few others. There is still time.

  31. jarrett Says:

I SAID IT BEFORE AND I’LL SAY IT AGAIN

WHEN ARE THE BUCS GOING TO TRADE DRAFT PICKS FOR A PASS RUSHER

FALCONS GOT JUDON FOR A 3RD ROUND PICK

WE HAVE A NEED AT PASS RUSH. LEVERAGE FUTURE PICKS FOR A PROVEN RUSH

  32. FanoftheSouth Says:

Well if there is any drug tests for Dean it won’t be for doing “one hitters”. That testing period ended with the first preseason game.

As far as weed? One hitters for one and all and the NFL won’t do squat.
Of course Gregory would be the only guy on the Tampa Roster that would even considered it.

  33. Cleanhouse Says:

    Ha, one hitters

  34. Joe Says:

    Dre Bucsfan!

Thank you very much for the kind words. Much appreciated.

  35. Kenton Smith Says:

If only the Bucs can open on a roll like the one Munch is on right now!

  36. Kenton Smith Says:

Those last 3 Munch posts rolled me onto the floor. My knees hurt and it’s time for bed. Hard to push myself up my gut hurts. Thanks guys I needed that!

  37. adam from ny Says:

they gave gregory an ounce of purple haze and said “be out son”

  38. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

That cat and a few others seem to always be mentioned just when one thinks alright. As far as I’m concerned him not being there is a 100% great thing. All it would be is Randy this and Randy that, and I’m sure at some point he’d fail a drug test and all of that DRAMA just dragging the whole team down. Never should have let him in the door. Whoosa, as coach said it’s hard to miss someone that was never there. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
