Todd Bowles: Success A Secondary Goal Friday Night

August 21st, 2024

Higher priorities.

So the Bucs will play their final worthless preseason game of the summer Friday night against the Dolphins.

Joe could point to many areas where the Bucs should want to thrive, including instilling a habit of winning.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles doesn’t see it that way. Or at least that’s not his main focus for Friday. Rather, it seems Bowles wants his Bucs to be Washington-ready following the game.

“It’s not a matter of having success, it’s a matter of playing in a game before we play a real game,” Bowles said. “The continuity on both sides of the ball, the communication needs to be there, the substitution patterns – everything like that, I’m really looking for.”

What else is Bowles seeking?

“Lack of penalties, hopefully,” Bowles added. “Those things we’re kind of looking for going into the season.”

Oh, Joe guesses Bowles won’t try to lose Friday or throw the game. But Bowles sees much bigger fish to fry than a win.

Be ready to pound the Commandos at home two weeks later.

It’s the first time the 1st team will play as a unit, even running a vanilla offense in preseason. I agree, this game is about getting that game processing speed up to actual game standards. I’m expecting some mistakes, communication errors, blown coverages..

It’s why pre-season makes me cranky. It looks like football, but it’s still just practice.

But we’re closer. Let’s get it right and then LetsBake!

  2. JimBobBuc Says:

Agree with Bowles, get ready for Washington. Secondary goal is to finalize the roster. Coen and Bowles will call very vanilla, or even misleading, plays.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

This dude should not be in front of a microphone. No wonder his team can come out flat in critical games.

    Jeebus Crust

  4. Crickett Baker Says:

I guess he agrees with Joe (and others) that preseason games are worthless, but I would rather he would always think about winning. At times he can always pi$$ me off. We should have a winning mentality every time we go into a game!

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

Just remember that both the Lions and Browns went 4-0 before going 0-16 during the regular season. That’s the value of preseason wins and losses magnified right there. The preseason games are for evaluation only.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Dave Pear … ‘This dude should not be in front of a microphone.’

I’ll say one thing for Todd Bowles Dave … He communicated a he11uva lot more useful information than you did. And do me a personal favor please: DON’T take the Lord’s name in vain again.

  7. garro Says:

I don’t put much stock into anything from Bowles to the press anymore. Mistake free from the first team is a no brainer. What the heck is continuity?

Wow saying nothing while using lots of english words…Is Todd on a ballot somewhere?

    Go Bucs!

  8. BAKERSBucs says Says:

  9. BAKERSBucs says Says:

  10. HC Grover Says:

At least the players had a chance to make the team.

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Please spare me the holier than thou high and mighty Bullspit.

  12. Addb Says:

Shouldn’t even call them games. Preseason contact scrimmage

  13. Dave Pear Says:

    Jiminy Crickets?

    Jiminy Christmas?

    Jeebus Crust?

Todd is double speaking, and that’s fine I guess. Just score a TD on the opener and stop them in their opener, then bring on the Commandos.

  14. robclwtr Says:

I don’t like taking the Lord’s name in vain, but I more agree with Dave Pear when he says, “spare me the holier than thou high and mighty bullspit!” Let’s keep the 1st amendment intact. Or find a more friendly way of asking him to stop taking the Lord’s name in vain, or better yet, not be so damn much of a snowflake!

Rob – the poster in question loves to pretend he has some kind of authority. The arrrogant superiority complex is apparent. Thousand word diatribes full of copy/paste content, lectures to the Joes and other posters every other post, and finally taking a metaphor and objecting to it when it was not the words he claims. Last I knew, no one calls “Jeremy’s Crust” their lord or anything else. No more than jiminy crickets.

A snowflake with skin as thin as a peach? Yeah, probably.

I’d comment but what’s the point?
Seriously, must have had 6-8 (10?) comments not get published.

I’ll stop trying soon and that will leave room for Joe to publish more Rod Munch comments 👍🏼

    I knew it 🤣

    This season it is clear.
