Todd Bowles Live At The Improv

August 9th, 2024

More one-liners.

Joe has sensed a much more relaxed Todd Bowles this summer. Maybe that’s a sign the head coach knows his team is good.

Bowles has delivered some good one-liners at his post-practice press conferences this training camp. His best was early in camp when asked about Jamel Dean getting an interception. Bowles said Dean needed to be drug-tested.

The Bowles standup act continued yesterday.

He was asked about rookie second-round pick, outside linebacker Chris Braswell, who had an interception yesterday when he had inside leverage on Cade Otton over the middle and Baker Mayfield’s pass ended up in Braswell’s hands.

Bowles admitted Braswell likely won’t be back in coverage much but what Bowles didn’t seem to care for was Braswell’s return skills after the pick.

“He better pitch it,” Bowles wisecracked with a smile.

“I don’t know that he did very well running the football.”

In all seriousness, Bowles made sure his true feelings for Braswell were known.

“I like the way he is coming along,” Bowles said while nodding his head.

Braswell’s development also was a subject for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht yesterday on the latest edition of the “Ira Kaufman Podcast.” There, Licht explains why a Bowles decision is why you may not have read much of Joe referencing Braswell getting sacks this summer.

“I like the way he’s coming along”.

Not exactly a raving endorsement. Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen Braswell’s name in print in OTA’s and training camp. It’s ok to say it. He hasn’t done much to impress yet.

Liking the new Coach Bowles. He might be really feeling like this is his team now too. More confidence with the coach choices and players. His comment about Braswell could be taken two ways. We shall see.

“He better pitch it,” Bowles wisecracked with a smile. – That is truly really very witty.

  4. Jason Says:

Todd Bowles will be in the conversation for coach of the year by the end of the season.
My bold prediction is he wins.

If TB can get the team playing as loose as he’s been lately, this season could be a whole lot of fun for us fans! LFG!

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I thought it was pretty funny when Bowles got after Vita the other day. lol

  7. SlyPirate Says:

    SURPRISE PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

Here are my top three predictions:
    1. Logan Hall. Look out for Logan. Most haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen him creeping up each year. Last year he was so close to a sack on so many occasions. If he got a half-step better in the offseason, he’ll make that front three one of the best in the NFL.

    2. Sean Tucker. My man! Give this man a chance and he’ll do good things. He GRINDED in the offseason and it’s showing up at camp. If they put him in the rotation, they’ll have a hard time taking him out. White-Irving-Tucker will give defenses nightmares.

    3. Tykee Smith. Think rookie year AWJ v2. He’s got that “it”. That gamechanger aura. Bowles’ defense is the perfect fit for Tykee. He’ll be a team favorite before EOY.

  8. HC Grover Says:

maybe we get a glimpse of the new offense 2morrow

  9. SenileSenior Says:

I hope you are right, SlyPirate. That would be great.

    Go Bucs!!

  10. ATLBUC Says:

    Sly!

    I’d add Zyon and Otton

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Good for Bowles proving all those people wrong who said he has less personality than a stapler.
