Todd Bowles Gives Bucs Four Days Off

August 29th, 2024

It’s 10 days from the opening kickoff and the Bucs are on a mini-vacation.

Man, players’ love for Todd Bowles really kicked up a notch yesterday.

Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman noted this in his podcast. On Wednesday afternoon, there was a sense or euphoria in the Bucs locker room. The roster was loving the news that Bowles gave them today, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday off.

He didn’t have to.

Last year, the Bucs were off for three days prior to Labor Day, the start of “game week.” The Bucs also will have their standard players’ day off on Tuesday.

Bowles granting four days off this close to the season really shows the trust he has in his roster. Players will use the time wisely and fully rest their bodies if they are banged up in any way, Bowles believes, and apparently Bowles isn’t worried about the trouble young, rich dudes can find on a holiday weekend.

Yeah, the NFL has gotten a lot softer than it used to be, but Joe can’t quibble with Bowles’ preparing a team for Week 1. Tampa Bay hammered the Cowboys in Dallas on opening day of 2022 and upset the Vikings on the road last year.

Stay safe, watch movies, play games, enjoy families. Don’t be the news at 11.

  3. Matt_PcAfee Says:

Keep them fresh for that late season cupcake schedule

  4. Doughboy Says:

Just looking at all the practice squads around the league. Tennessee Titans have Jabari Small running back. All this guy does is make big runs at Tennessee, he scares the hell out of defenses. Put Turner on practice squad and replace him with Small.

    Go Bucs, lets smack washington

Good decision. They can rest up while enjoying the time off.

Tbh the league and team has been way more relaxed and open I feel this last few years..way better than acting like everything was a national security concern

  8. Kgh4life Says:

I think the 4 days off is a league wide mandate.

Bring DOWN the mental focus HAMMER when practice for game week begins

    Perfect. Whatever.

    Beat Washington.

  11. Todd Says:

Meanwhile, the Falcons have decided to give the players no days off and added a two-a-day practice on Labor Day because, “Hey, the Falcons have already done on the NFC South…” (or something)

I just viewed the NFL schedule of operations and I didn’t say a four day mandatory rest period. However you said “think” and I don’t really have any solid info. Perhaps you’re correct forgive me if I suspect mistaken.

IF it’s not mandatory that makes me have even more respect for Bowles, at least he’s no moron like Ray Perkins who wants to grind his players to dust before the season even starts.

I get the old saw about “practice makes perfect”. But too much practice is overtraining and actually becomes deterimental physically and can even impact technique which grows sloppy when the players lose focus from being overworked. BTW Perkins has a career record of 42-75!!! IMHO his way does NOT work!!!

Todd … Falcons practice schedule, maybe Todd is playing psychological warfare 101 against the Falcons players 😁

i’d give them the 4 days, but have them come in tuesday for musical chairs

I’m not sure I like this.

It is one thing to have light workouts and weights for that period.

It’s another thing to just have zero team contact, or a bye in the middle of an injury-plagued season.

It’s before the first game! I’d prefer to keep the guys together with light workouts and tub time.

I was never a fan of pulling players before a playoff game except the really injured, either.

    lol veteran days off

I would say smarter not softer. More isn’t always better. It’s being fresh for game day. Fully healed and recovered. Brady played into his 40s not because he was soft but because he was smart. (When he went through divorce and lost 15lbs with a shaky o line, maybe a little soft that year) Go BUCS!

Camp cupcake just became camp soft serve

  19. RGA Says:

It’s not Bowles, every team has 4 days off. It’s mandatory.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Better not be flat against WTF.

Score an opening drive TD. Force them to punt on their opening drive. Win the game.

Prove the true evolution of Todd.

    LFG.

  21. Ol' Boy Says:

Those that need to practice should practice instead it’s no professional football player left behind. Equal outcomes usually find equilibrium at a lower level.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

    So soft.

You know ever played that played in the 70s, 80s and 90s, even the early 2000s are thinking what a bunch of soft weaklings the current gen is.
