Couldn’t this also be considered a pre-postseason poll? Yes, I’m assuming we will make the playoffs this year.

I voted confident. For now. 😉

  2. Paratrooper Buc Says:

I voted confident but it’s just not Bowles but Licht that get credit. They have made moves to better the team that may not be as flashy news as Falcons but seem smart with money and who they got. Yes the pass rush is one area that seems lacking but you can only do so much. So from what I’ve seen of who is here from last year, who we added and Coen, I’m confident we will do ok (8-9 wins) to good (10-11 wins) as opposed to just bad (6 wins or less).

  3. Pewter Power Says:

Seems everyone forgot they were calling for his head last year even the media. Just because he had a good roster AGAIN don’t mean he knows how to manage it.

  4. Pewter Power Says:

    @Paratrooper

I’m sure it stunted JTS by sitting behind JPP for a year. It wouldn’t have hurt Braswell to sit behind a veteran pass rusher. I hope licht doesn’t regret not making a trade but other than that solid offseason.

  5. heyjude Says:

Absolutely 100% confidence in Coach Bowles.

  6. Boss Says:

no confidence. have yet to see him make adjustments and his gameplans look like he just woke up, raised his hands and said “meh”….

  7. Tye Says:

He benefits greatly by the talented coaches and players around him Licht put together BUT WAY to many times even last season Bowels was obviously out coached….
I can only imagine the success this team would have with an above average HC!

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

We were 4-7 and he was getting ready to get ran out of town, that and the timeout fiasco vs Detroit I believe we are winning in spite of him. Credit goes to Licht. Little confidence.

  9. John Sinclear Says:

And the fickle finger of fate fluctuates again! When the wind shifts and Bucs lose two games, these numbers will reverse again. Just watch.

  10. HC Grover Says:

Fairly confident but worry he may make a big blunder at the wrong time.

  11. Baking with Evans Says:

98% are on board. I’m one too. We got this division again.

    LFG!!!

  12. GP Says:

Scary to find myself in agreement with Boss (shudder)
He talks well in the off season, saying what we want to hear.
But he has yet to show any ability to game plan, and we have yet to see improvement in time management, proper use of time outs, mid game/mid season adjustments, and crucial in game decisions.
I was one of the ones calling for his head at the end of last season but the Glazers made their decision.
So, for the time being, he has my backing, but he has not yet earned my trust.
    Talk isn’t good enough.

  13. Adrnagy Says:

Confident in coach. Only worry starting and going with season is the pass rush. No pass rush secondary is going to get burn. And dean seems to get hurt a lot.

  14. Dave Pear Says:

Hoped for a Todd evolution. Signs are promising on offense. Not on defense. Special teams? This stupid carnival kickoff rule has me triggered. Bucs haven’t made a play on a punt either receiving or kicking, in too long. O’Connor blocked one against the Broncos in 2020, and Spurlock was the last returner to house one – 2010?

    I didn’t vote. It’s a hope thing.

  15. First Name Greatest Says:

    Little Confidence

Guy is 8-9 and 9-8 in the regular season, he’s the definition of mediocrity and I can’t imagine him ever changing up his soft zone coverage concepts or actually using timeouts to help the team win.

Bucs will win 7 games with him in charge, maybe 8 if they are lucky. He’s just not a good head coach and his inability to devise schemes to defend the pass will sink any chance this team might have

  16. Buchen61 Says:

Yeah when Brady basically caved his last season here that was on Todd and last year when no one gave the bucs a snow balls chance in hell of winning with Baker we win the duvision and almost make it to the championship. Way to many sniveling whiney crybaby non fan ass wipes on this site

  17. Fred Says:

Joe Post the confidence poll on Bowles from last year and the year before let us see the difference. Thanks

  18. stpetebucfan Says:

    @Joe

This is an honest question that reveals my ignorance. I get the need for sacks and QB disruption in general. I do not disagree with you one bit on your desire for a killer pass rusher. However I’m not sure why we consider the Bucs pass rush so anemic? At least statistically.

The Bucs were tied with three other teams for the 7th spot in team sacks at 48.
The Chiefs, Dolphins and Bills were in the 50’s while Baltimore managed 60 freaking sacks!!!

Still 48 sacks were not shabby. Add another six to that total and the Bucs become one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the league for sacks.

So I guess my question is do you simply want more sacks…we all agree there…and followup…do you think the Bucs are desperate for more sacks.

2 more gets them to 50 isn’t that going to be enough if the rest of the team does their job? I have no real opinion just interested in yours.

The Bucs were tied with three other teams for the 7th spot in team sacks at 48.

Good teams which contend for championships historically, overwhelmingly, have a strong edge rush. For example, the four teams in the conference title games last year each had at least one edge rusher with double-digit sacks.

Virtually every top-shelf GM says flat out the most important position on a defense is an edge rusher. Virtually every coach says the most important element of a defense is to affect the passer. And damn near the only time this century the Bucs had a feared, established edge rush, the Bucs won a Super Bowl.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I missed the poll…because I slept in (benefit of retirement)…

    …but…

…I probably would have voted ‘Confident’.

There are a few ‘IFs’ to consider though:

IF Baker does as well as people think he will.
IF Liam is a good OC.
IF Bowles stays out of his team’s way.

I think it is possible that this team could turn into a KC or Pats type of team if those things happen.

Bowles is a good defensive coach. If the offense gets to clicking, this team could be superbowl bound.

But it all hangs on Mayfield, or, if he fails, on Trask (who is unproven).

So I think the Bucs are at a crossroad. The big question is where will they go from here? We find out this season.

  21. stpetebucfan Says:

    @Joe

THX for the explanation. I frequently learn here from you guys and some of our posters.

  22. Usfbuc Says:

Missed the poll but still not confident in Bowles as a head coach. Too often last season it seemed like there was no plan, the team was unprepared, and there was no ability to adapt mid game. He holds timeouts like they rollover to the next game. He also at times makes weird statements/no statements. His personality seems to be best at being a secondary leader and not the front man.
