“I Think The Whole Key To This Defense Is Logan Hall”

August 23rd, 2024

Joe would have filed this away as nonsensical except the guy who spit it out just spent a day at One Buc Palace and plenty of time with Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

Joe is referring to former Vikings and Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman. He co-hosted on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday and a fan called the show to express concern about the Tampa Bay pass rush.

Spielman referenced talking to Bucs officials this week and said, “I think the whole key to this defense is Logan Hall. They’ve told me he’s had a very good camp and he’s going to have to step up.”

Joe struggled with that one. “Logan Hall?” Again, Joe would consider that take gibberish if not for the timing.

It sure would be a bonus if the Bucs could get something signficant out of Hall outside of durability, but Joe certainly doesn’t think Hall is the key to the the defense. Perhaps he is??

Spielman, after calling Joe Tryon-Shoyinka “Jay Tryon-Sharinko,” noted the Bucs are very high on YaYa Diaby taking a big leap from his 7 1/2-sack rookie season. Therefore, Spielman isn’t overly concerned about the pass rush.

Spielman added that the Bucs now having two stud safeties will give Todd Bowles more options for creative pass rushing.

What is “The Think” and where can one buy some?

  2. BubbaBuc Says:

bust, biggest splash he has ever made so far is ending Jensens career

  3. Buc4evr Says:

Yeah, whatever drug Spielman is taking, I want some of that. If the Bucs have to reply on Hall or JTS this team is in “Big trouble in Little China”.

  4. Obvious Says:

See, that’s the problem with hanging out with the water boy and getting his opinion… He must have drank the “special water” before he walked into the interview.

  5. Commander Says:

Hall’s position on the line is not a premier spot.

  6. KABucs Says:

Kind of hard to believe but then on the same token, I hope Hall surprises all of us. If he and Cancey end up impressing everyone, we’re going to have a good season defensively. I seen a lot of people be pretty hard on Hall over the past week or so but didn’t he have a few tackles in the last game? How many snaps has he been playing? I’ve seen him called Logan the oaf but he’s actually a pretty athletic tackle, so the potential is there but can he put it all together?

  7. jimmy Says:

No edge rush and banking on Logan Hall? This defense is doomed. The Glazers may have to drug test Todd Bowles after the season.

  8. Pewter Power Says:

I’m going to just say they were joking and joes are trolling me. Even zyon McCollum isn’t taking preseason snaps but this guy is and he’s the key to the defense? If that’s true he’s the key you’re screwed Bowles

  9. lambchop Says:

This is laughable considering we have Kancey who has splashed more in his 1 year than Logan Hall has his entire career. Looks like they’re trying to build a market for Logan Hall for a trade. Nobody is buying it.

Even Will Gholston will have more impact than Logan Hall.

  10. unbelievable Says:

    Yikes, I sure hope not.

  11. Bucsfan Says:

That is a real knee slapper Joe-Thanks for injecting some levity.

  12. BucU Says:

I’m gonna roll with I’ll believe it when I see it.

  13. Brian in St Pete Says:

Not everyone can be a superstar and a team is only as good as its weakest link. If hall can step up from said “weakest link” and become just a slightly below average player that can open up some opportunities for the stars like Vea and YaYa. So he’s not wrong.

  14. Larrd Says:

Is he that safety from Seattle?

    LOL

  15. FrontFour Says:

I’ve always viewed Hall as the next Gohlston with better pass rush ability. If he can stop the run and plug the middle as well as Gholston and improve the pass rush from that position it’s a win.

  16. Ol' Boy Says:

Yeah this is like saying if he could play play football he’d be an awesome football player. I wouldn’t hang my hopes on Hall. Ever.

  17. Let Them Eat Bake Says:

That should be JTS’ name forever.

  18. Smashsquatch Says:

Hall looked good tonight, maybe the best I’ve ever seen from him. He’s definitely still improving in year three. His arrow is pointing up

  19. firethecannons Says:

Logan Hall is on a milk carton somewhere –guy has been an empty uniform and nothing more since he got drafted.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

Excited about Vea, CK, Yaya, and Braz. If Hall and JTS develop, great. If not, there is a draft next year.

  21. adam from ny Says:

i’d rather listen to chris spielman talk football

  22. garro Says:

    Wow!
If anyone at One Buc is relying on Hall or JTS for that matter to be anything but average to below average I think that they will be crying in their Budweiser. Aint happening. Both are taking up a roster spot that will be given to someone else once they are no longer on that big ole rookie contract.

Spielman says some seriously stupid stuff sometimes.

    Go Bucs!
