Rondé Barber Says…
August 23rd, 2024Joe has gone over how former Bucs great Rondé Barber has a direct and very, very close pipeline to shot-callers in the Bucs personnel office.
To be clear, Barber is tight with Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. Joe refers to Barber as being a member of Licht’s kitchen cabinet.
So when Barber says things on the Bucs’ preseason telecasts about roster construction and who may or may not have fallen out of favor with the Bucs, Joe pays very close attention.
Barber dropped two hints. Both he and Chris Myers, separately, said backup wide receiver Kameron Johnson has made the team. This, three days before the cutdown deadline of Tuesday at 4 p.m. To announce a backup wide receiver has made the squad this far in advance is very telling to Joe.
Then Barber also pretty much let the cat out of the bag that the Bucs are only keeping two quarterbacks. And both played Friday night in the final worthless preseason game of the season.
“If John Wolford is on the 53-man roster, which I don’t believe the Bucs are going to do. … There are only going to be two quarterbacks on this roster and it’s pretty certain who they are,” Barber said.
Well then. So that’s that.
Joe is going to guess that formerly No. 3 quarterback John Wolford, provided he’s not picked up by another team next week, will be the Bucs’ ever-popular practice squad quarterback.
Kyle Trask, in other words, is safe.

I have literally no idea why anyone cares about Wolford – he’s not a good football player and if the Bucs are down to needing him, the season is over.
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:38 pm
113 RTG on the final preseason game should get him a roster spot no?
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:39 pm
Yeah… because Wolford is injured
I like Knue … hopefully he makes it back to the PS
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:41 pm
We only kept two quarterbacks last year don’t see why not do the same, and Trask is by far better than Wolford no doubt.
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:42 pm
Wolford is not worth wasting a roster spot on – I didn’t even really think anyone was even talking about this or considering it.
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:49 pm
So after Kyle’s performance tonight all you have to say is he’s “safe” because Wolford is injured? WTF?
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:50 pm
Trask balled out and didn’t turn it over. He’ll be ready if his number is called
August 23rd, 2024 at 10:54 pm
Trask looked shaky at first and made a couple of poor decision but seemed to settle a bit as time went. Can’t ask much more than that of your backup qb. He definitely showed he’s QB2 over Wolford
August 23rd, 2024 at 11:10 pm
Trask looked good tonight. Also that 30 yd catch by McMillan on first series was very nice
August 23rd, 2024 at 11:11 pm
Maybe Wolford will become a cybersecurity intern ……..
August 23rd, 2024 at 11:20 pm
If Wolford wants to intern I can get him a gig.
August 23rd, 2024 at 11:28 pm
Wwweeellllll…
August 24th, 2024 at 12:15 am
Trasky was 17 of 24 141yds 2 tds 0 int
Not too shabby
Like Joe said in another article:
“Ultimately, August success doesn’t mean much, but it does legitimize hope that the player can succeed in the regular season.”
August 24th, 2024 at 12:53 am
I thought Trask threw a pick? Was it called back?
I had stopped watching when the starters were pulled, but had it going silent on my tablet…thought he threw a pick, but I guess I was mistaken.
August 24th, 2024 at 12:57 am
trasked looked sharp vs the on the bubble players
August 24th, 2024 at 1:24 am
Wilford has more experience in this offense than anyone, and he can move the ball, especially with the starters. Although, he isn’t very durable.
Trask moved the ball, but at this point I’m still not sure he’s better than Wolford.
Glad it’s a backup position. Trask is younger and has some upside, Wolford knows the system and has experience. The way they both played so far, it’s a toss-up.
Tie apparently goes to the more highly drafted youth.
August 24th, 2024 at 1:57 am
Trask has taken one snap in game action with the first team, dropped a dime to Godwin which wasn’t completed. Kyle Trask only opportunities to play pro-ball is with back-ups in preseason games. I think he’s fared well under those circumstances.
I have a good feeling that the Bucs are in good shape with Trask in the bull pen. If Mayfield unfortunately. goes down to injury, I have to think Trask might surprise us all throwing to Evans and Godwin behind a legitimate offensive line.
August 24th, 2024 at 3:07 am
Baker played against the dolphins backups and people were saying how good he played. Trask played well and now preseason doesn’t mean nothing lol 🤣🤣 . When Trask struggles then preseason matters but when he plays good preseason don’t mean nothing lol 🤣🤣 I can tell all the Baker fan boys on this site 😂😂!! The season can’t get here any faster and I can’t wait to hear the excuses Baker will get once he has a bad game. Some of y’all are so bais it’s ridiculous I mean you don’t even hide it anymore lol 🤣🤣 . Some of y’all are mad because Trask played well. If Baker goes down then you’ll and Trask come in y’all will be rooting against him and hope the bucs lose and that’s including Joe. But that’s ok because if the bucs has another season like last year Bowles and Baker will be out of here because a new HC ain’t gone want to be tied to Baker Mayfield he’s going to want his own quarterback. And the Baker fan boys will be gone just like the Brady fan boys!! NFC Championship or bust no excuses!!
August 24th, 2024 at 6:10 am
Dang, Oneilbuc. Are you even capable of posting a positive comment about the Bucs? For a self-avowed fan, your negativity is astounding.

^^mtn^^ Says: “Like Joe said in another article: ‘Ultimately, August success doesn’t mean much, but it does legitimize hope that the player can succeed in the regular season.'”
Riiiiight. When Baker plays one series with the starters to a 118.8 passer rating it’s celebration time. When Trask plays a full game with backups to a 113.4 passer rating it’s meaningless. Yours and Joe’s colors are shining through I tell you!
August 24th, 2024 at 6:13 am
White Tiger Says: “Wolford has more experience in this offense than anyone, and he can move the ball.”
LOL. Check his career stats: 5 INTs to 1 TD. Yeah, he moves the ball alright, right into the defense’s hands.
August 24th, 2024 at 6:23 am
Ugo Says: “Trask looked shaky at first and made a couple of poor decisions”
LMAO. What were the “poor decisions”? His two TD throws? Have you seen his line? Here it is:
17/24 141 YDS 5.9 YPA 2 TD 0 INT 113.4 RTG
When Baker posts an RTG anywhere near that – playing with the starters – everyone here slobbers all over Baker. When Trask does it – playing with backups – it’s meaningless.
August 24th, 2024 at 6:37 am
JOE – “Kyle Trask, in other words, is safe.”
According to CBS Sports, of the 2024 preseason quarterbacks, Trask ranked #6 in passer rating. Other than a hater, why would anyone think he wasn’t safe?
August 24th, 2024 at 7:00 am
overall the offense looked good…that’s all that matters in game 3 of preseason…let the coaches dissect, that’s their job…our job as true bucs fans id to be optimistic…believe me you, there is optimism with 32 fan fan bases right about now…
agree with rod…once wolford is a major factor, our season is over…
also trask looks like a really good back up qb these days…feeling very good about him holding the clipboard and ready to jump in as needed…
wolford on ps as an experienced 3rd stringer who knows the system is feasible…
————–
also september success doesn’t mean much in the nfl…except for that it counts on your record…so gotta at least go 2-2 out the gate…
many teams that fly out the gate in september are not teams in contention for anything come the end of the year…

Don’t know why JBF seems to be ignoring Trask’s performance last night, others are not:
“Kyle Trask’s anticipation and pass placement are perfect on 10-yard TD toss to Ryan Miller” (NFL)
“Kyle Trask Delivers 4th Quarter Dime for Bucs’ 3rd TD vs. Dolphins” (SI)
“Kyle Trask’s 18-yard laser pinpoints Cody Thompson across middle” (NFL)
“Kyle Trask Wraps Preseason with ‘Ultimate Confidence Booster'” (Buccaneers)
August 24th, 2024 at 7:35 am
The argument can be made that Kyle outplayed Baker last night. Hear me out. Both finished with very high passer ratings, Baker slightly higher than Kyle. However, Baker did it playing only one series with the starters, whereas Kyle did it over essentially a full game playing with backups and camp meat.
Which raises an interesting question. Why didn’t Bowles keep the starting offense in for a second series to see what Kyle can do with the ones? It’s almost like Bowles is afraid to let the world see.
August 24th, 2024 at 7:49 am
I’ve honestly never seen a back up QB get as much hate by a fanbase before in my life. Some of yall need to touch grass
August 24th, 2024 at 8:05 am
Ok, I have been a Baker middle of the road guy.
I am now officially switching to full Baker Fan Boy.
Not because of anything that he did last night, but because of Oneilbuc’s take on him this morning.
I am just going with history. Has there ever been any fan more wrong than Oneilbuc. He was wrong on Jameis. He was wrong on Arians. He was wrong on Brady. He was wrong on the Bucs winning the Super Bowl.
No dude has been more wrong on his hot takes of the most important parts of the team.
August 24th, 2024 at 8:05 am
Not jinxing BM here, but has Kyle Trask ever played a full regular season game? No, all I’ve ever seen him do is mop-up and preseason play. I’m glad he’s with us. He’s solid. Bucs looked tight and disciplined for a final preseason game. Looking forward to the regular season. YEAY Tampa Bay!!
August 24th, 2024 at 8:10 am
Trask looks better.
He aint great, but hes not as bad as in the past.
I feel comfortable with either Trask or Woolford as the backup.
But if we lose Mayfield, neither Trask or Woolford can save our season.
But at least they wont embarrass us.
August 24th, 2024 at 8:20 am
The most amazing thing about Kyle’s play last night was his game management in a very difficult situation, beside his Two Touchdown , 113.4 RTG , playing with a constantly changing lineup, there were no fumbles, no interceptions, no sacks, no delay of game penalties , no mixups, Kyle got the ball to a wide variety of recievers, handled hand offs and pitches well, and gave everybody a chance to be seen. The backups played very well , unfortunately we are going to lose some very good players but I have a feeling we will see some of them again , on other teams.
August 24th, 2024 at 9:56 am
I absolutely enjoy the comradery between Chris and Ronde. Kyle looked good last night. Baker is our number one!

You left out the “Not too shabby” part

Reading comprehension is severely lacking around here in some cases, lol.
But, that’s probably the way Joe likes it.
Goes with making contradicting statements in articles to get clicks, comments 🙂

Who was Trask playing against?
Oh, thats right- 3rd stringers. None of which will be in the NFL Wednesday.
We’vevsern trask against a real NFL defense.
Brrrrrrrr!
Trask is a backup, because he isnt good enough to start.
Guys here think he should start, because they arent good enough to work in the NFL, and dont know what a Real QB looks like.
August 24th, 2024 at 3:02 pm
Ryan Tannehill is still a free agent. If we lose Baker I’d rather bring him in over Wofford
August 24th, 2024 at 3:17 pm
Yup, Tim exactly and if you call Kyle a backup it’s labeled as hate, he is an ok backup nothing wrong with that. Go bucs!!
August 25th, 2024 at 7:02 am
Jason said that the Big German Metz is the safest man in the building. Guess that makes Trask the second or third safest. 🙂
Que the loud crowd and the Trolls.
Go Bucs!
August 25th, 2024 at 9:37 am
Capt. Tim
Trask is a back up, because he isn’t good enough to start.
How do you know that? You have seen him in a regular season game for longer than a snap or two? Nope didn’t think so. You don’t know if he could be a starter or not so shut up with the negativity and be happy he did good no matter who he played against. You guys hate on Trask so much it’s annoying, he is our second string who will probably get a chance this season since bakers not smart with his body. I bet he will come in and play extremely well just like he has his entire career
