Report: Graham Barton Is Your Bucs Starting Center

August 19th, 2024

Named starter.

Joe understands this news is sort of like saying Christmas is coming in December, but it seems the Bucs finally want to admit the obvious.

Per JC Allen of SI.com, the Bucs have decided to finally refer to Graham Barton as their starting center.

Barton has been damn near dominant in the Bucs’ first two worthless preseason games. Saturrday at Jacksonville, Barton again owned defensive linemen in limited play. Joe is guessing that the Bucs finally saw enough and decided to no longer play games with the first-round pick from Duke.

Yeah, and Christmas came early with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft!

  2. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Go get them, Graham!!!

    LFB!!!

  3. heyjude Says:

Wow, we are getting close to the 53 man roster day. Merry Christmas! So lucky we got Graham. It is all coming together.

  4. Bucsfan Says:

He sure appears to be a keeper.

  5. Durango 95 Says:

Young man has really shown well. Hats-off to him making the transition he did is not an easy thing. His future at center looks bright. I thought he would have been better off starting out at guard, I was wrong. Jason Licht working his OL magic, again.

  6. Brad Says:

Joe, how did that other guy look (OL)you talked about on Ira’s pod last week.

  7. Alanbucsfan Says:

Barton and Bucky will add 6 points/game to the Bucs’ offense

  8. Kenton Smith Says:

Boy, center is an important position! Kind of like left tackle. Now this is crazy! I’m getting giddy!

  9. SlyPirate Says:

Bucs probably wanted to be sure he could snap the ball during a game.

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

Thank God for all the QBs talent so early. He wouldn’t have fallen to us otherwise.

  11. lou in srq Says:

Watching Barton block the lineman in front of him then go after the linebacker is a thing of beauty!
He certainly is nasty and well schooled by our coaching staff!

  12. Kgh4life Says:

Finally. He’ll have some growing pains but the good outweighs the bad. He’s so dominant moving guys off the ball.

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Perfect picture too. I’m cool with our center having a few days of stubble on his face. Sweaty. Hell yeah! Now he just needs some ketchup stains on his shirt and maybe a little axle grease smeared on his forehead. He doesn’t even need to take a bath every day. I believe he’s going to be kicking some you know what soon!

Joe, I ‘ ll wager my portfolio that the Bucs WILL PLAY ALL THE GAMES with GB62!

    Just messing with you, 😂

  15. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

You draft a guy in the 1st round you start him. Usually that’s the expectation.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

    Good.

Now Hainsey can be a versatile depth piece.

  17. Biff Barker Says:

This pick makes too much sense to me! We all hope he plays half as well as expectations!

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

The more surprising news is that they are going to let Hainsey get reps at guard. Normally the bucs don’t let their backup center play another position during the season.

  19. Rayjay1122 Says:

If Barton becomes an all-pro center and has a long career in Tampa, it will be fun to hear Cowboy fans whine for not taking Barton when they had the chance.

Lol, you must be new here

  21. NJbucs23 Says:

    Different tone when he’s on.

    Keep kicking ass Graham!

  22. Dom Says:

This kid is going to be a stud. Licht is constructing another great line. Could be a top 5 O-Line by 2025

  23. Dave Pear Says:

Focus now shifts to Klein The House. Wouldn’t it be awesome if this massive human could blossom?!

How did you identify Barton can really play? I’m going to guess it was because of how well he played in a worthless preseason game.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Barton is a mobile monster. A couple years with an NFL strength coach, and he will be the Tristan Wirfs of Centers.

If that kid couldnt beat out Hainsey, Id be at the Skyway jump platform!
Now, whos our Two guards . . .

That’s on Bowles and his Camp Cupcake.

But Barton has played really well – which you’d expect vs the level of competition he’s been going up against. But the big thing is to just see him making the right reads at center, handing guys off correctly, making good snaps, etc – all of that will translate to real games.

As far as him being dominant – he hasn’t been steamrolling guys or pancaking them, so I don’t know what dominant is supposed to mean. But watching him, he’s been really good, didn’t give up any pressures that I’ve seen, has done a good job in the run game. It’s too bad Cupcake Bowles has robbed the team and the fans of seeing some starters get some snaps, that’s when we’d see what he can do.

  27. DJB Says:

*** Dave Pear – Klein may become a cult favorite by the time all is said and done. I’m also intrigued by Merle’s grandson Luke. . .

  28. Crunchbuc76 Says:

Hey Joe any word on K Merriweathers kee injury?

  29. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

Dave Pear- Yes, this year I think Hainsey and Klein may become valuable versatile backups. Fid uou see Klein playing tackle vs the Jags?

  30. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

    Did you

  31. Dave Pear Says:

Klein gives me the warms. Great potential. Haha imagine him as the 6th OL checking in at TE or H-back.

  32. 76 bucsfan46 Says:

Ok he has dominated in both games, Congrats Graham. Now I’m focusing on Brederson and Mauch to see if they can hold off Klein who is looking dominant as well.

  33. 76 bucsfan46 Says:

This Bucs team looks like a perfect fit for the ball control West Coast offense and Baker fits the short to mid range accurate passer, he still struggles with the long ball game of Bucvo Bruce Arians.
