Rachaad White Really Likes The New Bucs Offensive Line
August 6th, 2024So the Bucs went out and added two new players to their front line on offense. They drafted Graham Barton to play center and signed Ben Bredeson to play left guard.
Additionally, Cody Mauch and presumably Luke Goedeke put on muscle to bulk up.
While the line may not be fully “new,” it certainly is revamped. And Bucs running back Rachaad White is loving it.
“That’s huge. That’s huge man,” White said of a bigger offensive line. “We’ve got some big o-linemen that took care of themselves. They all gained weight but all [were] still able to move and get out in space and that’s the biggest thing.
“I think they all have that attitude and they’re very nasty, so yeah. Just to be able to, as a running back, get outside and get out in space with them in front of you.
“When I had a couple screens last year it was just like daylight. You just see daylight and you just take it. I think [on] one of the screens, Cody [Mauch] was right next to me for a minute, so it was crazy to see, but it’s amazing.”
Well, what Joe has seen through nine practices in training camp, White is White. When he gets outside, he just weaves through traffic so effortlessly.
It has been encouraging to see White not used like a battering ram, a Marshawn Lynch or a Mike Alstott pounding him up the middle.
In one run, White tried to go up the middle but there was a traffic jam. So White bounced it left, got outside and White did what White does on the outside: get productive yardage.
Keep that up and the Bucs might have something here.

Depth chart says Hainsey and Palmer are starting. I thought their replacements were performing great in camp so this kind of confused me.

Barton and Palmer are getting most of the snaps with first team.

Depth charts tend to favor the veterans in the beginning, so I wouldn’t read too much into it right now.

Joe, it sounds like Barton is struggling with his shotgun snaps. Is he bad enough to be concerned about him starting game one?

So, who is Bredeson?
Here is what I found …
The Good
6-5, 315, 1st Team Big 10, Harbaugh coached at U. Michigan
The Bad
2021 – Healthy Scratch
2022 – Knee injury
2023 – Moved to RG. Released.
Sacks: 5, PFF Grade: 42!!!!!
LG is our biggest gap on the team. 5 sacks by a Guard!!! Feiler gave up 0.
I can already hear, “With the 2nd Round Pick in the NFL Draft the Bucs select OT (soon to be OG) out of the Northern Appalachian Community College” … and he’ll be awesome.

All last year some of us were saying – it’s not White, it’s the O-line. Now, gee whiz, and golly gee – White is saying, and proving, the same thing!

Canalwater was a joke.

I like Rachaad and think this could be his season. He is only 25 years old and he is excited about the new revamped line. Sounds good!

So White is really laying it on thick, calling our OL ‘very nasty’ ! Maybe Goedeke is nasty, but the rest of these guys are play dough boy soft. Hopefully Coen can scheme up some good runs. I hope I’m wrong – the Jax scrimmage will be the first test… C’mon OL, prove me wrong!

This tells me that White can’t imagine gaining yatds that aren’t handed to him.
